Ah! Welcome Break Membury Services UK (Eastbound) had this arcade in the lobby with Rave Racer (Namco) and Sega Rally (well - Sega - ofc). Watched the rolling demo many a time and the odd rich family across the foodcourt coughed up and played the thing in 1996. Good times and memories.

Alpine Racer is a downhill ski racing game developed and published by Namco for System 22. It is played on a large cabinet where the player stands on a set of ski-like foot stands that are moved with horizontal motions to steer and taking corners while holding onto two bars for stability. There is also an edging element when the pressure applied to the inside and outside edges of the foot stands are measured, as an additional means to control speed.

I only played this once in my lifetime on an actual arcade cabinet, and I wish I can go back in time for that purpose. It was at a go-kart arena, the Speedpark Motorsports Thrill Park, outside Daytona International Speedway in January 2003, where the indoors had a bunch of arcade machines with some of them being 10 years old at the time. The area is now abandoned. It's at 201 Fentress Boulevard.

Last year, I found out that Bandai Namco gave Arcade1Up the fullest consent to Arcade1Up to reproduce an arcade cabinet with five games from the Namco System 22 PCB. If only soon, Arcade1Up can reproduce a skiing arcade cabinet, where they would then include this game, and its 1996 sequel, Alpine Racer 2.

Someone should work on controls with a Wii Balance Board so we can play at home.
