Joel tried to give Ellie some semblance of a normal life, and she chased Joel's killers instead. Ellie had a choice. She left a chance at a normal life with her partner to again pursue a revenge she couldn't carry out all the way, killed a pregnant woman, take your pick. Ellie is not a sympathetic character, she's a cautionary tale. There's a difference between survival, and just killing whatever gets in your way. A small showing of humanity here and there does not excuse the fact that Ellie killed not for self defense, but as an indulgence.

Abby bashed his head with a golf club, in front of Ellie no less, and one of them spat on his body when she was done. How the hell do you think she would feel? Why wouldn't she want to hunt all of them down? Not to mention that her killing a pregnant woman was by total accident. She didn't even realize it until it was too late. Ellie wasn't killing in self defense or indulgence, it was for the same reason Abby killed Joel, personal revenge on someone who took your father. Abby at least wasn't there when it happened, but Ellie was forced to watch. If you think she could just live out her life after that like nothing happened, you are very mistaken. And the worst part is that Abby acts as of Ellie doesn't have a right to hunt her down, just like she hunted down Joel. They story was full of double standards and hypocrisy, and Abby never once admitted that she's caused everything that happened.

@@CrankyTemplar Apologies for taking this long to reply but I’ve seen footage of that game and let me tell you, these were the kinds of games I’ve been DYIN’ to see from this era. I haven’t been able to fully appreciate that PC games of that time but the game over scenes in these two are what makes them for me. There’s just something about the graphics of this time that just gives it that special charm that hasn’t been matched with newer games nowadays.

Messiah is a surreal action game where you play as a rather uncanny-looking cherub who has to "remove the sin" out of a cyberpunk world, it's also apparently where the Roblox OOF! sound comes from and Heart of Darkness is a sidescrolling platformer where a young boy has to go rescue his dog from some evil monsters and is filled with similar looking game over sequences as this game right here.
