Very happy to watch an honest review. I find that Van says things as they are; so the reviews in this channel are pretty much spot on. Gotta agree with the lack of palm sliders. I own the Alpinestars GP Tech with TWO palm sliders; this was a first for Alpinestars since they're known for not putting a slider on the ball of the thumb (Dainese also does this). A* certainly protects the ball of the thumb with tons of padding and even Kevlar in some cases, but they seem to not like to put a second slider at the heel of the palm on their gloves. They are the experts, so there must be a good reason for this; I am happy though to hear Van mention the lack of palm sliders in the Supertech as that was also one of my only complaints in this glove. The Supertech gloves are top-of the-line gloves. Love the lack of a second seam at the perimeter base of each finger; it enhances protection and make the fingers fit tighter, which I love. I tried the Supertech and they are among the best fitting-gloves I've ever put my hands in and I own many gloves (you can watch my videos on my channel) and I've tried even more. It's just a pity that A* would do away with the GP Tech's palm sliders. A*, here's my humble suggestion: put the palm sliders back on a new iteration of the Supertech (i.e. v2 as with other gear?); put the palm sliders atop the Keprotec panels; the palm sliders do not need to be huge like the Keprotec panels, but we'd still get crazy abrasion and sliding protection. Maybe use Superfabric or stingray if the heel of the palm gets a bit bulky with TPU sliders. I'll get 3 of these. That's how perfect such gloves would be. These gloves were designed with feedback from Marquez et al. These guys know how to fall, especially in a lowside (although Marquez had the habit, until recently, of holding onto the bike; he corrected that for his own good). For the average track-day enthusiast, maybe, just maybe, some better sliding protection at the heel of the palm would be welcomed and appreciated. At the end of the day, it's A* we're talking about. They're masters at designing gloves. Perhaps the Keprotec panels slide better than we think? But, remember, Keprotec includes polyamide, and polyamide isn't the most-sliding material out there. I will be asking A* about this; very interested in knowing the reason for palm Keprotec vs TPU palm sliders. Good stuff, Van. Keep the honest reviews rolling; many of us appreciate it.

I have talked about this glove with Alpinestars and asked why they went in the direction they did. The goal was protection with more feel for the rider. Really like the shape of the fingers and how they were able to round them off and move the stitching so far out. In the end additional protection added to a glove reduces the feel and increases the break in period which is not something every rider gravitates towards. With gloves many riders continue to use gloves when they should be retired due to normal wear and tear. The fingers and palm of your gloves are in constant contact with the controls, this contact results in friction which wears the gloves out in those areas. When you look at the back of the hand the gloves may look new because they do not touch anything (unless you crash of course) when riding. Very important the palm and fingers are inspected on a regular basis for wear. Just like tires how much and how hard you ride has an impact on long they last for sure. If you are riding your ass off in 90 degree heat every lap weekend after weekend the gloves will not last as long no matter how expensive they were. - Brian Van

Absolutely. I think these Supertech are race-track oriented through and through. I just love the GP Techs (I know you do too; I've seen your superb review on them!), and I'll use them even for touring purposes (I typically rotate them with my Racer R-Safe and Weise Tornado). I would still get the Supertechs without a second thought and I can see people wanting them. You have a fan here, Van; love the honesty and the experience you put into your review telling. If you don't wear it, you won't recommend it. Now that's the sort of business I'd want to deal with (and I have purchased from STG in the past too). I've sent a few of my site's readers your way (I get constant messages on recommended places to buy gear from for good prices and service), and I'm always happy to recommend your site among other sites that I know that deliver a quality purchasing experience. For anyone reading, STG is one of those good places on the internet (straight shooters), and I've purchased from over 50 different places in the USA and Europe, so I've seen it all. Here's to hoping you continue with your company's success, Van!

Also forgot, the stretch fabric between the thumb and hand you talk about, is amazing, and it did last all season, with no signs of wearing out early. These gloves perfect except for the palm slider, as I mentioned in my first comment, the palm protection does not hold up, that Kevlar material grabs and rips and the dense foam padding under it just comes out leaving one with nothing to protect the palms, I really hope I can get a palm slider put into these gloves, cause the feeling from these gloves is like no other!

I love these gloves, I used them for a full race season 2018, I did 6 rounds of racing and a few lapping days with them. They are wicked gloves, but they are not perfect, the sad part is they could be the perfect glove with one small fix, that small fix is a real palm protector !! I crashed 3 times in 2018 with these gloves, and the palm protector didn't make it, it did its job, my hand was not hurt, but now the glove has the palm protector ripped out of it, as it is not he type of material that slides well in a fast low side. The gloves held up very well everywhere else. The comfort is amazing, and what I love most about them is the feeling you get when holding onto the bike is very close to not wearing gloves at all. A plastic palm protector would not change this, so I don't understand why they chose to not use one?? These gloves are amazing, I would buy another pair, but they are really only good for one crash if that crash consists of you sliding on your palm. I am going to see about having a plastic palm protector put into my gloves to fix them.

Thanks for the honest opinions Van! I had similar opinions as well on the trade offs of protection, however understandably for racers that the highest level - MotoGP, the priorities are slightly shifted a bit compared to us average riders.

IMO any rider willing to invest $400 in a pair of gloves does so expecting protection commensurate with the investment. I love the fingers and hope to see that feature on a glove with proper sliders on the palm. All of the crash feedback we have seen since the palm sliders (thank you KNOX) were introduced has shown them to be effective. - Van

Brian what is your thoughts on the new GP TECH V2 glove? I appreciated your honest opinion in this video and would love to hear your thoughts as undecided between the supertech and GP tech v2. I am still a fan of the supertech, but is the new gp tech actually better is the question? I am looking for track only glove. I await your video review on the glove in future but hoping to pick a new glove up soon so i appreciate that your opinion will be based solely off the available info. Thanks in advance!

Hi! Why don't you guys try to bring the French Italian glove brand 'FIVE'...they have some amazing stuff too...
@BKKLB5 жыл бұрын
I like the channel and watch a lot of content on here and I am certainly not an Alpinestars fan boy. I like that you carry Five and Taichi and RST and Racer... we need options in the marketplace. But I have to question your logic/ objectivity in this review that amounts to: 'MotoGP riders crash all the time so they don't need very protective gloves because they know how to crash' That argument seems a bit tedious. So should consumers steer clear of all racing models since they are designed for expert crashers? The Supertech is one of the only gloves that meets CE Level 2 standards, and to my mind it makes sense. Which product is going to transmit more energy to your hand, a chunk of hard plastic with a piece of leather behind it or a foam pad covered in tear resistant fabric? I'd almost bet they had to get rid of hard parts on the palm to get the forces underneath the CE Level 2 threshold (which I believe is 9 kn).

If you look at the gloves on the GP riders hands they are often different from the models being sold. In MotoAmerica most of the Alpienstars riders will use the GP Pro R3 Gloves which are the second tier. I have a pair of these and so does my Son Max. The GP Pro R3 is an excellent glove IMO, better than the Supertech. - Van

I don't like the direction AStars is headed with some of their newer stuff. They're using plastic instead of carbon fiber and they're adding stretch panels everywhere instead of leather. They dress it up like it's technology but really I think they're more worried about cutting costs. Thanks for the review though. Very honest.
@chop20935 жыл бұрын
Nonja Ninja I thought the same thing. At this price point this glove should feature carbon fiber and titanium like the equivalent dianese gloves. Having only plastic on this level of glove does not inspire much confidence.

The top of the line Alpine gives are over priced, their middle of the range stuff is not too bad. They are a small fit but they do stretch quite a lot when broken in compared to others.
