I witnessed Alpinista beat Torquator Tasso in Berlin, last year. After seeing her in the paddock, I was never in doubt about her winning and had 20 quid on her. She is the absolute loveliest horse imaginable and I will be rooting for her on Sunday like a maniac.

@@davescott5989 Nope! You'd be the only one saying that. Prior to the Arc, she had encountered soft ground only once, when winning her G2. Before that, she even lost twice on "good to soft". Her other wins came on "good", "good to firm", "firm" and "good to soft". Winning once on very soft ground in France does not make you a soft ground specialist. Alpinista is extremely versaitle and actually opposite of a specialist. Sir Mark himself even said that the ground was actually too soft for her. Torquator Tasso is much more ground dependent.

Japan will NEVER win this race with a horse trained in japan because of the going. Longchamp is on an alluvial plain, the going is always on the soft side and with any rain it turns into a bog.

Reason why not? This beat that German horse last year. That German horse went to the arc two races later. That apparently had no chance of winning. Ground came up heavy. Won at 72/1. 😳😳
