I'm in USA, and I tell my family all about you and your videos. @@scottsaunders5087 I do definitely need sun, it's been cloudy here pretty much every day for more than 2 months now, and all I want to do is sleep. It's not normal for us, even when it's proper winter there usually are many days which are very sunny. It's even making the news! But I think I'd still take the shorter winter, especially as someone who likes to grown some of their own food. :) Our main growing season here is really just June to mid-October.

Just two days ago while watching one of your other vids, I realized that, even though you are a fellow book lover, you had never mentioned if your village had a library (haven't quite watched them all yet) and here you go, answering my very question before I had the chance to ask. I also far prefer printed books and have a pretty decent library of my own (combined with my daughter's since I now live with her). Unfortunately, several years ago, I developed nerve damage in my hands and fingers so it is difficult to hold and read the 'tomes' (giant books) which I prefer. So now I am confined mostly to a Kindle as it is so light weight and easy to hold. Not what I prefer, but I refuse to let nerve damage and arthritis interfere with my #1 passion... reading!!

The library lending out a sewing machine is brilliant. When I lived in NYC the children’s librarian at our library branch loaned out American Girl dolls as well as some other children’s toys. Now we live in the Southeastern US and most public libraries have seed exchanges, where you can “borrow” heirloom seeds in the spring then in the autumn you replace the seeds with new ones from the crops you grew.

To live in the land of never-ending winter for a very long time, you’ve got to love it (both the land and winter) a lot. Svalbard is beautiful, almost mesmerizing. One may fall in love with it quite easy. However, most of us get tired of winter pretty fast. Three or four months of it - and you are longing to hear the birds sing. As for the cold - it is individual. Some may dress up warm and still feel cold, the others are getting used to it fast. Most people prefer to live below the polar circle for sure (here in Canada - below or closer to the 50th parallel). And that makes the Far North even more special and worth travelling to!
