The thing I love about her videos is that she calculates the power efficiency and prices and how it's gonna effect you long term and that's a big thing some other reviewers don't speaks about.

Most reviewers in the US and Asia (including AU) don't include power efficiency and pricing because it hardly matters in their regions. it's only in certain places in the EU where it matters. The US most expensive electricity rates are between 13c-20c per Kwh, In Asia it's lower to US pricing. If you look at her table these will be between $20~$80 for 4 years or $2~$8 per month in cost. That's basically more than half the world where that kind of savings is nothing. It was the same when the last generation of AMD had better efficiency (AMD was better 50-100W per card) than their NV counterparts and nobody cared.

More power consumption means more heat so you need more cooling for the room you're in, or you have to live with a warmer room.

@raboox9 We've had cards in 200W - 250W region (the mid end card have always fallen in this range) for years and years now and people never had issues with it. Making a mountain out of a mole hill. The 3070, 3060ti, RX 6800, RX 6700 have had those wattages, and all those no one ever complained about heat. Now if you're talking 3080, 4080, 4090, 7900XTX, heck even the old 2080 Ti's, even the old gtx 480 and gtx 580 all produced much more heat than the cards we have today. This is the 7700XT and the heat is easily manageable being a mid range card. The ones that usually complain about things like this are people who never had high end cards before and then can finally afford to get one and are surprised how much heat the high end cards generate. This had always been the case with high end but never with mid end.

@raboox9 I live in a tropical country, and my AC is running fine at 25*C. Mind you, 25*C isn't cracked up and never was. Almost everyone in a tropical country runs their AC everyday. I've been playing games for more than 20 years and never had any issue running mid-end or high-end cards. I've played during the rainy season without AC, and that was fine. Making a mountain out of a mole hill again. Edit: My electric bill a month including everything in my house is $120-$130 a month. This is with 3 ACs, a fridge, 2 PCs, 5 electric fans, a washing machine, multiple TVs, etc. So the whole cost, energy savings, and heat thing is way overblown. It's either you're in the wrong hobby or you never could afford running mid end or high end rigs if thats your concern. Like I said this while high cost of electricity applies to people in NL and a few other places. The rest of the world it's just marketing fluff.

In my market, the 7800 xt cannot be found at MSRP, But the 7700 xt is selling at MSRP. So instead of a price drop, retailers have just jacked up the price of the 7800 xt making the comparison between the 2 models more reasonable. And it is hard to find the 7800 xt.

Great analysis, and I testing graphs about power bill effects. Better safe then sorry when it comes to "non trivial" investments as modern GPUs. When old time graphic cards were in the range between 150 and 350€ you would probably change them before the economy kicked in, and power bills were of another order of magnitude. Today, with 2KWh priced as a coup of espresso, costs will add up fast, and with costs of a usable GPU, between 400 and 1600€ (plus VAT!!!), nothing is irrelevant.

Good review only issue is here in the UK the RX 7800 XT is still out of stock, until at least end of September. The RX 700 XT is still at £429 GBP MSRP here, including 20% VAT (our national tax for USA viewers), so it is the only game in town at this moment, at this price point.

Apart from energy cost there is also the issue of heating up the room. Many homes in Europe don't have air conditioning. My room often gets to +30C in summer. I don't need another heater making it even hotter.

Pices varies so much depending on countries thatbit make chosing the right gpu a nightmare. I fot the rx 7700 xt for 460 euros here in morocco (gamings hardware is quite expensive) . I had no idea about the power consumption tho , discovered later that the card was using 200+w while playing ghost of tsushima on high 1440p and immediately undervolted it 😂 so it never goes above 170 (the performance and quility ingame were still beyond decent) the 7800 xt hellhound is almost 700 euros 😂

You mean to use them as an external SSD? Since they limit the SSD to 1-2 GB/s they never get very hot. Power consumption is linear to the write speed.

Some of the midrange and high end GPUs can really heat up a room when combined with a powerful CPU and a high capacity power supply. It's not fun when Europe is seeing very high summer temperatures and some rooms in a house may not have air conditioning.

Expecting even the 7800 XT to guarantee you 80+ FPS at 1080p, max settings, any possible game for 5-6 year sounds pretty unreasonable. All you need is one new Cyberpunk-style game and you'll fail that target. With some settings adjustments, I do expect both cards to at least be "fine" for that period. Obviously a 7800 XT will guarantee higher settings for a bit longer.

Yeah the 7700XT would be much more attractive at ~ $379.99 The 7800XT at ~ $499 is pretty solid but many reviewers tend to ignore the huge impact of “upscaling / DLSS” when comparing against the RTX 4070. The RTX 4070 provides ~ 1/2 the performance for ~ 1/3 the cost of the RTX 4090 - This is hardly a “terrible” deal.

There's always a bottleneck, what you want is a balanced system, and I think a 12th gen i5 with 7700 XT is balanced. I'd still grab a 7800 XT if it doesn't cost much more, even for 1080p.

Hi. I appreciate all teh work that goes into testing these items. But in the world of the GPU and the CPU could you please, F-in Please, put a cost per frame. Honestly, swap it out with teh cost of power which is pretty irrelevant. If you need to be worying about power cost you shouldnt be buying somehting that expencive in the 1st place. But Bang for Buck is probably the most relevant thing there is.

I'll see about adding a cost per frame graph. But definitely not going to get rid of power cost. How are potential differences of 100s of euros/dollars irrelevant? The price of running some products has become higher than the price of buying the product for many people. You can't just look at a sticker price and say that's the only cost.

@nellynelson965 Sorry to jump in, but let me be allowed to express the complete opposite view: cost per frame is a f-in useless metrics. Are you are such a nerd who cannot even use the calculator to divide one number with another and repeat it as many times as needed? Since not only the price of the card can change, based on geographical location, or with the passage of the time or with different models (the MSRP is only applicable in the US, and for example here in the Netherlands the cheapest 7800XTs are 2-fan models starting from 560 EUR, but the better 3-fan models start from 585 EUR, so which price would you recommend for me to calculate with?), but to calculate with the GPU price only can also be debated. If you are upgrading your GPU only, then it may be useful, but what if you are building a new system? Or replacing core components, motherboard, CPU as well to be to able push higher FPS? Then calculating with the total system / upgrade cost is more appropriate, in my opinion. On the other hand, power consumption does not change, and if you are so lucky that the electricity bill does not matter for you, you should be glad to enjoy it. You think that only poor people on tight budget can be interested in this aspect, but why are you so certain about it? Should I remind you that generally newer technologies are more power efficient but also more expensive the previous ones, therefore usually richer people buy that new technology first? It seems that you are very bad at mathematics, so can you please take a glance on the table again at 9:29? The difference between a 7700XT and 4060Ti by 4 hrs / day at 20 cent/KWh is 27.45. How much is that per month? =2.29$ Would you notice the increase in the power bill? I bet you won't. So the monthly impact is quite small, but the small numbers add up in the long run. Therefore to present these figures can be beneficial for people to understand and visualise the financial effect of different power consumptions.

Hey Nada, there is another elephant in the room. HiGH Power Consumption of AMD GPUs @ video playback ! Last Gen's 6800 (and up) AMD GPUs & the new chiplet 7000 series have serious power issues @ video playback (youtube, Netflix, video players etc.) 40+ W is stupidly HiGH + meaningless... and while the previous 6700 XT consumes only 16W, the new 7700 XT doubles that power draw with a whooping 33W on "video playback" AMD should have solved that "power issue @ video playback" on the current Gen but it's gotten worse... Can u make a video about it too ?

Given that we've had 6800XT for ~$500 since black friday 2022, it's only fair to expect it to fall to $450 by now, or sell 7800XT at $450. 10% progress in a year...hooray! /s 7800XT is ~21% better than 7700XT. Or 7700XT has ~82% of 7800XT's performance. In such (still insane) market, 7700XT should be at most $370 (82% of $450), but the lower you go in a lineup, the better price/perf you have to get. That leaves 7700XT at what? $360 (80%)? $350 (77%)? It needs to be $337 to give 10% extra price/perf vs a $450 7800XT. It makes no effing sense being more expensive than 82% of 7800XT. Horrible market overall. And Ngreedia is much much worse... Just buy used if deals arise. It's the only oasis of sanity right now, IMO. Don't throw money towards these garbage companies gouging left and right...

If it doesn't provide features beyond what a console can do, Why would I pay $600 for a GPU when that same amount will get me a full gaming console? So you pay $1500 or more for what? A _faster_ console? After AMD put their architecture in the super cheap consoles, why in the world would we pay full price for their parts now? If you're not upgrading your graphics like Nvidia is doing (and only making console level graphics run faster) then why even buy a PC? Just save tons and buy a console.

Because buying AMD GPUs for PC parts is stupid. Their tech is available for $600 in consoles. Why would I build a $1500-$2000+ PC just to get a consoles graphics? Sure the AMD GPU PC is faster but it's just faster console graphics. Nvidia is actually better graphics, better images, and ray-tracing to even full path-tracing. That's why they are more expensive. At this point buying an AMD GPU is a scam.

449USD should NEVER be 509€. I am sick and tired of companies rising prices when products release in Europe. If they had converted the prices correctly, the card would've been €420ish (nice), which would had made it much better

They have big enough margins to drop prices by 50 bucks right after a product releases, which means they could've done this out of the get go. There was an AMD release, if I'm not mistaken, where they dropped the price the day before launch which caught reviewers by surprise (I'm sure you included), more proof of manufactures trying to inflate prices

It's not rebadged because 7800XT use Chiplet design while 6800XT using monolithic. Problem lied to AMD didn't know how to resolved how to reduce power consumption

You can buy a full AMD game (only) computer for $600. Why would I buy AMD parts for my real computer that I already know can do better than consoles? Any 3000 series or 4000 series already unlocks more graphics features than any but the most expensive AMD cards. And even then their top of the line can't do those extra features as well as Nvidia's _last generation._ If you're willing to sacrifice features to get AMD cheapness, then why even go PC? Just buy a console. All the features the 7700XT has at the same price just a bit lower FPS. Seems like a no-brainer.
