It's definitely about Matty Healy. She knew him for a long time and they never connected until the breakup with Joe. Matty's 'wife' is most likely his drug habit. Her 'husband' is Joe. The part when Taylor and Post lie on the ground in a paper silhouette is a dead giveaway because lots of people talk about how Matty is known for lying in just that position while having conversations. That's what I've heard over and over again. 😎
@ssalas73746 ай бұрын
As a long time fan of Matty's, to my knowledge, he has been clean of hard drugs for 5 years. He mentioned it last year during a concert and everyone cheered for him. As far as the position they are laying in, I believe it is a reference to part of The 1975's show last year. Matty was lying face to face with a naked silicone figure of himself in that exact position. He did it at almost every show. You can find images on Google and some videos here on KZbin.
@marigolden_mariposa6 ай бұрын
@@ssalas7374maybe he is clean of hard drugs, I don't know if you consider pills hard drugs, but she has a song that eludes to him trying to buy pills off of a friend of a friend of hers that ghosted him. in her song Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus She says, "you needed me but you needed drugs more and I couldn't watch it happen". so maybe he relapsed. @@marigolden_mariposa she's talking about their relationship in 2014 for the needed drugs more part in Chloe et al. The pills thing is def a reference to this time though - but he has loose sobriety which equates to not doing heroin / cocaine, presuming the pills are like Xanax or something he's probably relatively okay - hasn't seemed like he's been on drugs anyhow As for fortnight I think she's talking about fka twigs when she says wife - they were rumoured to be engaged & husband is Joe A

@@marigolden_mariposa yeah, of course, I can’t know for sure. It worried me too. After multiple listens to this album I wonder if some of those references were to past events, they knew each other a long time and certainly during his struggles. I know he’s worked hard to get free of that.

15:17 this is Taylor’s signature sound. She first began with her album 1989, which she explained why she titled it the year after she was born because it was a collection of 80’s synth pop songs. Since then, every single one of her albums has an element of 80’s synth pop. It was extreme in lover, some hints in folklore and evermore, prominent in Midnights, and extreme in Tortured Poets.
@_aly_cat6 ай бұрын
Hey Issac, always love your reactions :) I just wanted to correct you- Taylor has been using Christopher Rowe to do all her re-recordings. Jack has only been used for songs he actually produced originally and some of the vault tracks that were never released. Also, Shellback worked with Martin on the original release of 1989 and he did actually come back to help re-record Wildest Dreams along with Ryan Tedder and Imogen Heap on their original tracks.

@plnkblue6 ай бұрын
Desperately trying to pick out "who" every song might be about is a detriment to actually understanding the stories and metaphors she comes up with lol 😭 Like Fortnight is an incredibly obvious prologue to the narrative we go on to see unfold in the album, but if you're somebody who can't comprehend a song unless you can craft some specific narrative to fit a real life human being, maybe that doesn't seem as apparent to you. Genuinely I think that Taylor still always gets pegged as the "breakups and feelings" songwriter because fans refuse to analyze and interpret her songs through any lens outside of the specific men she has in her life. TTPD's story is brilliant and perfectly straightforward even if you have zero clue about her life story, and that's the true talent within her storytelling.

This is the best possible group to do an album review. You have the singer, who will listen to and critique the performance, techniques, and melodies of the singing, which is one of the most important parts. You have the song writer who will listen to the lyrics, dissect meanings and intricacies. Then you have the producer, who will listen to the instruments, tone, presence, and skill of the song itself. The only person who’s missing if the Fan/Swiftie, who will review the song in context of the artist themselves, but I think they said the singer was also a fan too.

So I saw a theory that “Fortnight” is supposed to be this idea where it’s meant to take place in the future where a past relationship that was daunting on you feels like it didn’t last as long as it had felt when it was happening and you realize the other person moved on and is living a happier, better life than you and you’re jealous of their “happy spouse, happy house” life; hence the “my husband is cheating.. your wife waters flower” lines. SO GOOD!

Most of the songs on TTPD are parallels between the lives of Taylor and Clara Bow. Many songs are totally dedicated to Joe Alwyn, some are for Matty, some for Travis, but over all she's comparing her journey as an artist to Clara Bow the OG it girl. How Clara Bow transitioned from silent genre to pictures with voices. How Her life is often known more for the rumors and false gossip surrounding it than her actual achievements, and people are always speculating about her personal life instead of actually appreciating her art. Also a lot of references are just literally about random Tortured Poets in history.

Another thing, Jack didn't produce the rerecords. Christopher Rowe did those that were not originally produced by Jack.

“Like I lost my twin” doesn’t bother me at all. I just think of it as like a synonym for soulmate in this case. “Sexy baby” is kind of eyebrow raising / borderline weird, but largely ignorable. But I physically cringe at “sloppy wet kiss” every single time. I hate that line so much. I can’t get used to it. (And, yeah, “unforeseen kiss” isn’t really any better.)

Listening to these girls reminds me why I don’t have, or want, female friends. Omg. Stab my eyes out with a dull pencil. A fortnight is 2 weeks. Matty Healy is British. Please stop just saying words to say something. If you don’t have anything of value to add, then just listen.

It’s all about matty a couple about Joe and Travis… sorry but she loved matty… we know nothing or little about her personal life, let’s keep that in mind
