The fact that most people (especially men) that dont like her, don't even know she plays instruments and write her own stuff is prove that they hate her just because shes a successful woman that makes music about her experiences as one. They look down on her just because is "music for girls" but they never spent 2 seconds listening to anything past her hits. I've seen grown men cry listening to folklore, men that once said that her music was for teenagers. If ppl actually researched and understood the lyrics and concepts they would be amazed. If you don't like taylor because you dont like pop music in general, then it is fine. No one is obligated to like her. But if you dont like her because you think it's music for teenage girls and you dont even know she plays instruments, then you're just judging her by being a woman.

I found this video interesting. I’m in my 50’s and for years made fun of Taylor Swift. I didn’t get it. I was embarrassed to even admit that I listened to a song by her. After the release of Folklore I finally took the time to listen. I was wrong on so many levels. 1. I was surprised to find she has never released a album with a song that doesn’t list her with writing credit. I of course assumed someone else was doing the heavy lifting(why would I doubt her songwriting?) I was WRONG again. She wrote her first hit song as a freshman in high school. However because so many people (mainly men) accused her of not carrying her weight in the studio, she wrote the entire SPEAK NOW album by herself 2. I thought she was manufactured. I was unsure if she really had talent or staying power. WRONG AGAIN. The tiny desk performance was my first realization that she doesn’t need anyone. All she needs is a guitar or a piano. I’ve since seen countless videos of her playing pop songs like Shake it Off and Blank Spaces with just her and a guitar. I think I like her better when it’s just her and a guitar 3. Lyrics. Back to her songwriting. Her pen is amazing. Again I never listened and believed most were about dogging men. Wrong again. She is stupid good with the pen. After about 3 months of deep diving into her catalog I realized that many of my friends especially those coming from the rock and country genres have a bias. Im not sure why it exists. I’ve heard many of my friends stated how easy her songs are to play. They ridicule her guitar playing or the topics of her songs or the was she dresses. It’s stupid. Why do women have to prove anything. I admit to being guilty of this in the past. Anyway good video. I must say you sounded just like I did before the light bulb went off. The Taylor Swift rabbit hole is easy to fall into and impossible to leave. A modern day Hotel California for you olds like me. Lol.

Respect. This is a really great breakdown for those who have preconceived notions about Taylor's music. Until folklore I was just a passive fan. (9 Reasons) link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3eUpatvgN6bhsU Also, I think the fact that her songs can be simple in terms of chords progressions has always just shown me that she's a singersongwriter first and foremost, even as a pianist I've never gotten that critique, I mean... there are only so many chords? I just appreciate that she *grows* especially since folklore writing over Aaron Dessner's more intricate compositions you can see her writing and musicianship development, plus her will to get better vocally AND learn piano and etc.

She takes accountability in Back to December, Afterglow, The Archer, technically she also does in I Knew you Were Trouble, New Romantics (We need love but all we want is danger", Treacherous (falling for someone when you shouldn't), Getaway Car, ect. There are a lot of songs where she very fully blames herself, takes accountability, and apologizes. She points out her own mistakes and shortcomings all the time but if you don't know her and the whole stories behind everything then you have no idea what to even look for. She isn't overly obvious in her lyrics, she likes to leave riddles and poems and Easter eggs for people to find. It also kills me that anyone would defend Kanye and Kim who were old enough to know better, John Mayer who was old enough to know better, and Jake Gyllenhaal who was old enough to know better. Taylor grew up in the spotlight. Releasing her first album at 16 and the media took everything she did and vilified her for it, and sl*t shamed her relentlessly. She made some mistakes as we all do growing up, but they were magnified a million times over and still are clearly. I'm so proud of who she has become.

She crossed over into pop pretty quickly, but when she announced she would no longer do country music, she thanked the fans for her massive stardom. Every once in a while she will poke her head into her country music roots... singing with Tim, they did The Highway Don't Care. I love that song. “I didn’t expect her to be able to dance like that.” “She sounds good.” She was intensely criticized for not being able to sing or dance after she switched from country to pop. She took those criticisms to heart and worked incredibly hard to improve at both. Her earnestness and acknowledgement of her insecurities is something that rubs people the wrong way. It bothers people that she tries SO hard all the time. They judge her for taking things so personally and forget that celebrities are actually humans with feelings, too. It’s think she should be commended for always striving to improve at what is both her passion but also her job. Of course she’s going to try hard, this is her JOB. She’s vastly improved as a singer over the years. I saw her open for George Strait when she was 16/17 and it was… pitchy, very very pitchy. I wasn’t expecting much as she was just an opening act who only had one song out at the time. However, we bought her album before we left because, despite the pitchy singing, her songs were clearly smack you right in the face bangers.

'Fearless' was catchy country, but you could tell, she was starting to expand her musical genre, and she won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and "the critics were outraged" (if you know, you know)... so then came the Masterpiece of 'Speak Now' (she had no cowriters) and you could tell she was not just a "country" artist. When we heard 'Red', that was confirmation that she was starting to "reinvent" herself (as she alluded to in the Miss Americana documentary) with the "country/pop" sound. Then, '1989' and we were all... she's now full POP, and her 2nd Grammy for Album of the Year! Then came the K & K crap, but without that crap, we never would have heard this comeback album. This, 'Reputation' album, was THE BIGEST COMEBACK OF ALL COMEBACKS! The stadium tour broke records. Netflix got onboard to film the last U.S. stadium concert, and blondie was back, with a vengeance! 'Lover' was robbed due to the pandemic, but it's getting it's redemption on the Eras Tour. Folklore and Evermore were such a pandemic relief, and again, she reinvents herself with 2 Indie/Folk albums showcasing her vocals and her pen game, and her 3rd Grammy for album of the year for 'Folklore'. Then, 'Midnights' and she was back to Pop and the Eras Tour... how does she do it? 3+ hours, 44 songs every weekend, and still going into the studio as she's rerecording her original albums so she can own her songs. Unbelievable! Hardest working artist!

One thing that i dont like about the narrative social medias try to spin about her is that she only writes songs about breakup wbich is completely wrong and not true. There are many songs in her discography about different subjects and writing songs about breakup isn't even wrong in first place.

So I gotta say, when it comes to her ticket prices for her concerts….she is not charging $5,000. I think the most expensive seats were about $1,000 and those were floor seats in certain areas. For a 6 hour concert, I thought it was reasonably priced. I was in the stadium portion, and only paid $200 per ticket. These high prices tickets are coming from people re-selling their tickets after the initial ticket sale.

Please watch her documentary called miss Americana, you will understand the reasonings behind the albums especially reputation sooooo much more. She has so many layers to everything she does and music videos has SO much tea if you know the storyline of what led up to that song. She is a freaking genius when it comes to writing songs and directing her music videos. Nothing of hers is left to coincidence, I promise!! Nothing is ever just “ oh just a funsie lil song I don’t relate to 🤪” everything is perfectly calculated

Saw her for the first time April 29th! Our surprise song of course was High Infidelity and Gorgeous. I only paid $540 for two tickets, in the club seats. We got a free food/drink/dessert buffet and there was more room in the seats than standard sitting. This woman is unstoppable. No one does it like Taylor. U can’t compare Beyoncé and Taylor because they are so good/different that they deserve their own space.

Taylor is super talented! She is a multi-instrumentalist. Besides acoustic guitar and piano, she plays electric guitar, banjo, ukulele, melodian, bass, drums. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other instruments she plays, as well. She is a master at her craft. She wants to be the best. She feels it's important for her to play as many instruments as possible.

If you want something more personal, with a deeper meaning, I would check out the standard version of “All Too Well”. She wrote it about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhall, who was WAY older than her at the time and pretty much took advantage of her innocence and youth. Then, years later, she gave us a 10 minute version-which is IMMACULATE-and the way she had originally written it. But her label at the time made her condense it, and it was one of the stupidest decisions ever made.

I was excited about this one because you have become one of my favorite reactors and Taylor Swift is my favorite artist. Taylor Swift is so big and well known and I feel like a lot of people hear a few things about her or hear a few songs by her and they confidently think they "get" Taylor and she's not for them. However, as popular as she is, most people still manage to really misunderstand and/or underestimate her musically. If you are a person who enjoys high energy, hip-hop inspired production, and big live spectacles then you started in a great place because her album reputation delivers that. For those who like pop music but prefer more classic pop production with a bigger focus on iconic pop melodies and lyrics then she has three albums for that (1989 for 80's style pop, Lover for modern pop, and Midnights for moody night pop). For someone who prefers country music and that great simple production and story telling then she has four albums for that (Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, and Red). And for those who prefer indie-folk, alternative music with stunningly poetic lyrics she has two albums for that (Folklore, Evermore). She does play piano and guitar. She writes all of her own music. She was actually signed in Nashville as a songwriter before she was an artist and was the youngest person ever signed to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV publishing at 14. She executive produces her albums. There's a reason she is not only wildly popular but also one of only four artists to ever win Album of the Year three times at the Grammys (and the only woman to ever do so and the only artist to do so with albums in three different genres). There's a reason artists from Paul McCartney to Bruce Springsteen to Carol King to Madonna to Tim McGraw to Dave Grohl have praised her. People like to reduce her to someone who sings annoyingly catchy pop songs about break ups and boys. And that music is in her catalogue but there is so much more than that.

I've loved Taylor since her early days and the evolution of her music has been amazing to watch unfold. Here's the thing about her... you don't have to like her music. It's not for everybody. But at least respect her for the incredible talents she has: songwriter, guitar and piano, vocalist, incredible performer... Everybody wants to hop on the "Hate Taylor" train and they overlook just how truly gifted she is.

That's also an interesting thing, that her concert musicians mostly have been with her for years: Paul Sidoti, lead guitar since 2007 or 2008. Amos Heller, bass guitar, since 2007 or 2008. Matt Billigslea, drums since 2011. Matt Medows, multi instrumentalist since 2007 or 2008. There are other band members, but these guys are with her since she was a teenager. And yes, she has a full band on her shows, so not only her vocals are live, but also music.

I think that speaks a lot to her work ethic, mutual respect, and how well she treats her staff (cast & crew). Unlike other musicians, they haven’t needed to audition new dancers or musicians every tour etc.

Well Taylor actually takes accountability for her mistakes and insecurities in a lot of songs. You should listen to songs like “Back to December”, “Anti Hero” “this is me trying” “The Archer” “mirrorball” and “peace” for starters. Also Taylor writes ALL of her music since she was 12, including Speak Now (her most recent re-recording) which is entirely self-written. She sings and plays instruments and even started directing her own videos recently. So yeah, she is actually talented and very underestimated, even with all her success. She has never been fabricated and is probably the most versatile artist in recent history. So, I understand where the “prejudice” comes from because people think she’s just another popstar but everyone who actually stops to listen to her realizes how much of a songwriter/storyteller she is.

My 3 daughters all listened to Taylor as they were growing up with her. I know most of her songs. I am not in the Taylorverse but I do believe you have the wrong idea about her Seb. Everything you’ve heard is based on people ( normally men) putting her down because she stands up for herself, her music and beliefs. What you probably do not know is how many of those men tried to take advantage of her music , writings and work just because they thought they could bully her. She didn’t let them 👏🙌! She does have self awareness and is extremely humble. She wouldn’t have what is arguably the largest and most fierce fan club if she wasn’t down to earth and real. I’m a Pentaholic and we are large and fierce in our devotion to them but Taylor’s, like your wife said is on another level. That’s because she is very active with her fans on a personal level ~ dare I say even more than PTX are and they are phenomenal in that area too. One last thing you might not know is she is very close to her parents and they are usually always traveling with her. She has written songs for other artists, won awards for those songs and is extremely well liked and respected in that area. Hope you do listen to more of her songs because your daughters will definitely be listening to her.

You said this so well. I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan but I do have respect for someone who is willing to take a stand for her beliefs in spite of the target it puts on her back. Icon and icon to the last part of this the Beyoncé comment, they are two GOATS in what they do. I honestly believe you don’t have to ‘like one more’ or ‘raise one up and put one down’ so much of that is done to divide women artists and they are (in my option) in completely different lanes. They serve a different product and a different experience and they are both so incredible at what they do. Some may like what one does better, for their preference but ultimately they are both INCREDIBLY TALENTED WOMAN. Woman who have thousands at shows waiting for every single moment that comes next.
