there's also something interesting about the Go-onger and Kiramager titles, where in their "Sentai" titles are apparently read as English words but are written differently in kanji thus making them mean something else i.e. "Engine" in "Engine Sentai Go-onger" is written as 炎神, and it can be read as "enjin", but it means something like "burning souls", in reference to the Engine Souls they use to transform "Machine" in "Machine Sentai Kiramager" is written as 魔進, and *is* read as "mashin", but it's literally translated as "magical advance", referencing the zords of this series, the Mashins, and how they're basically magical gemstones that turn into vehicles that move forward/advance

Fun fact: the "Sun" in Sun Vulcan is a pun; it's a homophone for "three" in Japanese, and Sun Vulcan was the first three-man team in the franchise. For anyone who doesn't know, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger makes a lot of dragon references because it originally was meant to be a dragon themed sentai, but toei changed their mind because they knew Dinosaurs were more popular. This has has always been my sentai biggest disappointment because a dragon knight themed sentai would have been so much cooler/original then just ANOTHER dinosaur themed sentai.

I heard gokaiger can have gokai mean "mistaken", which is related to how often people good and bad get tricked in almost every episode. Also, oh-sama is how to address royalty. The normal Japanese is to say whoever-San, or a boy is whoever-kun, a girl is whoever-chan... someone ultra important is -Sama. You see this in plenty of seasons, usually the lesser villains talking to the lead villain out of respect.

Japan loves their puns, and Sentai's names are no different. The Sun in Sun Vulcan is pronounced as San, the Japanese word for 3, a reference to the team having 3 members. Mashin actually translates as "Magical", but pronounced as the English word "Machine", giving it a double reference to the Kiramei stones' magical attributes while also becoming vehicles. Kyukyu, while translated as Rescue, can be read as "Nine-Nine", which refers to a whole slew of things (The year the show aired, some rescue codes using 99, etc etc)

The "OH" in Ohranger refers to "Overtech Hardware", which refers to the combination of ancient and then modern technologies that far surpassed what the rest of the world had when the Machine Empire invaded. The "tai" in "Dengekitai" refers to a team or squad. One of the more common translations of Sentai is "Task Force". You mention that most of the early teams were science themed, however, a number of them were military/police organizations as well. (Goranger were spies that worked for a military group in Japan. A quick tip for pronunciation - - with the exception of 'i' and 'u', try pronouncing the rest of the vowels as if there were an invisible 'h' after them.

A few notes: Zyu doesn't mean "ten", it just has a similar pronounciation with the word "juu' which does mean "ten". And the rumors of Zyuranger having ten rangers were just rumors coming from the fact "zyu" sounds similar to "juu". Ninninger does have an explanation. "Nin" means "to move stealthly", "ninger" is a word play, since it has a similar pronounciation to "ninja", so the full translation would be something like "Shuriken Squadron Stealthy Ninja".

Zyu is ju though, it's just a different stylization for the romaji. Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger, and Juken Sentai Gekiranger have the same kanji for that part of their respective names, they just chose to stylize it differently when using romaji for reasons that are unclear. In all listed cases the translation of the kanji is "beast" making them Dinosaur Squadron Beast Ranger, 100-Beast Squadron Roaring Ranger, and Beast-Fist Squadron Attack Ranger. Then there's the extrra word play for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger involving batteries and electrical charging. Also, too bad that doesn't fit the "shinobi nareru shinobanai".

The original concept for Dynaman was actually for them to be baseball themed. I forget exactly why the theming was changed, but they already had the ranger suits, and I believe half the monster suits by the time the original scripts were scrapped in favor for what we got with Dynaman. This is why the ranger suits in Dynaman look more like baseball uniforms rather than something more scientific or demolition based. The original name was going to be Yakyuu Sentai V-Leaguer. Yakyuu directly translating to Baseball, and V-Leaguer in reference to there being five rangers(Roman numeral 5 being a V) and being players in the Japanese Baseball League

So ohsama is the word oh meaning king with the suffix sama which is used when referring to someone of great importance, usually royalty. So it basically means a king but referred to with great respect, “like his majesty”. BUT if you wanna get very technical, something like Richard-sama for example would be translated asking Richard, sama being translated as king in this instance. So if you really wanted to you could sorta translate Ohsama Sentai King Ohger as King King Sentai King Kingger
