The "Wampos" of the Budi Lake
A group of young Mapuche people of Lafkenche origin, who live and work around Lake Budi, in the coastal area of Araucanía, Chile, are reviving old traditions that have been abandoned. One of them is the construction and use of the wampo, a wooden canoe carved out of a large trunk. The documentary shows the process of elaboration, the geography and the traditional customs of this indigenous community, inserted in an environment where water is the central element of the landscape. It then relives some of the traditional uses it had in the Budi and all the watercourses of the ancient Mapuche Lafkenche territory.
