For the people who are new to this song and think it's about heroin and love, it's not. This song is about fear and the adrenaline that ensues when you feel you are about to get punched. The bloodflood is the adrenaline, Mandela Boys is a gang in Common. CO-double-MON is a reference to Southampton Common, Joe's hometown, he once got beaten and mugged there. Bloodflood shares some lyrics with Fitzpleasure about Tralala; the novel's chapter 4 of Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr. About the prostitute who was group-raped. The pt.II lines draw upon the same violent and sexual tensions described in “Fitzpleasure”.

Definitely. It comes from the french group of rapper NTM, and their DJ (DJ Cutkiller) who misheard (on purpose ?) the sample "That's the sound of the police" from KRS-One in the 90's, changing it into "Assassin de la police". It became a cult classic in France and i'm sure Alt-J are aware of that, being British.

@@jahmalbaptiste9915 go listen to KRS ONE - Sound of da police (sample is used in the french film La haine in 1995, and used by french band NTM on the song "Police", only in live shows).

I wish I knew about this song while I was having one of the many bad trips years ago. Even more good trips, I had. By legal standards im insane many times over. But I know better, I've been crazy long before I took psychedelics.
