Doom metal *should* be more popular than it is, if you study mainstream trends. The fact that it's so doomy is no buffer at all. Why popularity has eluded it for so long, I don't quite know. I assume that it might be because the connotations of metal are solidly of 'fast' metal? Either way, I do worry about what popular doom would sound like... If it would either be so "OMG, SO GRIMDARK" like Nu metal or "Sell outs to the extreme" like Hair metal...
