I found this band on 2013*. It's been eight* years and I always come back. I mourn David's death day every year in december and I can surely say that I have never felt so understood by someone I never even knew. Everytime I feel lonely, sad or worried about death, WOY is the first thing that comes to my head. Even though I love "WOY IV", the last album from your son taught me more than any book. It's my first example of a Magnum Opus. Not only his voice was perfect in "Grey Skies & Electric Light", the instrumental was on point. But the lyrics are "simple" yet powerful and meaningful. Everytime I come back to that album, it always tells me that "life is hard, but you can be happy, even if you're alone. Take care of yourself". It gives me strength to strive and keep going on; seeking a better life for me and those around me. Thank you, Ms. Gold and to your son aswell. I wish the best for you and your whole family. I am sure that the metal scene will never fill this void your son left; but, at the same time, this means he will never be forgotten. I am convinced that he will inspire many people the same way he inspired me. Thank you from a brazilian fan!

Again thank you to all who check in on me now and again. Let us believe you had thought communication with David, and he asked you , for him,to see how I am. I hope I feel more love than pain, but, some days, I allow myself to feel a pain so raw there are no words to describe or measure that. Together we can be motivated and inspired by David. Like many, I unfortunately did not discover his music until after he was too soon taken from this world, but Woods Of Ypres has easily become one of my favorite bands of all time. It's difficult for me to choose between Woods Of Ypres and Type O Negative. Though Woods Of Ypres never gained the recognition they deserve, David Gold is one of the most talented artists I've ever heard. His songs, the lyrics, and the music that he composed are beautiful to me, no matter how dark the subject matter. I identify with many of the feelings he has expressed throughout his music. I know he's touched the hearts of many, including mine, with the legacy he left in woods Of Ypres. I just wish I could have met him at least once.. Just to have at least one conversation with him would have been amazing, but fate is often unkind, and it just wasn't meant to be I guess. Maybe in a different time, or in a different plane of existence we will all be able to meet our fallen loved ones, and those that we adore, yet again...

Proud of you to face the challenges in life and be like me, recognize small glimmers of joy on those days that are needing more inner strength to work through. This moment, one if my cats us near, purring, kneading on my fluffy sweater, as if being my therapist to say,” I am here with you,” this is a glimmer of joy, I have brewed mushroom coffee and will have some reflective moments on feeling more love than pain. Nice story! Glad to hear it. I can relate in a way, in the sense that what opened the door to me to listen to death/black/extreme metal genres was just one or two bands really appealing to me, and through appreciating their music I underwent an entire shift in mental perspective towards the sonic elements in extreme metal music. Take a look at how the "heavier" elements in Woods of Ypres really make their music that much more impactful and contribute in such a vital way to the overall enjoyment, and if you're like me you'll notice similar qualities in other bands you may have overlooked before.

Your pretty causes Make great conversation While another world is yearning Painfully for an end And who will save me now Now that you are gone And who will save you from yourself You were the light That shone brightly in the night You were the light That shone harshly on my life Think of me when you are weak Whenever when you are strong Pretending that I'm okay Will comfort when you are lost And who will save me now Now that you are gone And who will save you from yourself You were the light That shone brightly in the night You were the light That shone harshly on my life Close the door and cry Or lock it up from the outside Look down on me from the balcony And hold the railing tight And if you changed your mind Then you are justified And if you changed your mind You'd know that you were right And you will be just fine The more you knew The less you wanted to You made our decisions on your own And left me without a choice to choose None of this Will ever haunt you now Since there is no one else Accounting for your cruelty but me You will see no consequence And though I am not to blame I suffer all the same And who will save me now Now that you are gone (now that you are gone) And who will save you from yourself You were the light That shone brightly in the night You were the light That shone harshly on my life You were the light That flashed and left me in the dark You were the light The only light I'll ever know You were the light You were the light You were the light You were the light

Wow. Only discovered this band the other day, and already many of their songs have hit home for me. Sad that I didn't discover them much earlier. Didn't realize that the lead singer had already passed...Just like when I started listening to Yearning. RIP David; wish I could have known you.

Greetings. My name is Darren. About 3-4 years ago I discovered Woods of Ypres. Since then I’ve been listening very intently. It broke my heart to hear of his passing. I seem to feel a lot of what David created as very personal feelings of life and love overwhelm me every time I listen to his work. I had a friend of mine tell me that years ago he went on tour and stayed with Mrs. Gold. He said she was a fantastic person and made them all feel at home. I just want to say that David’s musical influence in songwriting and lyrics, have impacted me both personally and in my own creation of music. I love his band and his music. RIP David. And…thank you. Thank you for the gifts you left behind for all of us who struggle.

David was Woods' sole member. The rest were either session or live musicians, but that began to change with Woods IV and Woods V. Woods V was completed and set to release when David died. It was released about three months later, and is an incredibly accessible yet bittersweet album. You'll see what I mean.

You can feel and hear the progress of thier music. The lyrics have always been amazing:) Great music makes you feel "Something", whether it's joy,sadness,anger,happiness,contempt....whatever,but "Something". Few artists delve into the emotion of despair, but it's an emotion we ALL deal with. Woods helps us process that emotion and move on:) R.I.P.
