After all the videos I have watched---this is by far my favorite type of background--the layers after layers and so much yummy color!! I just love the way you can play with the acrylics and not worry about any movement of the paint beneath as you add another layer. I am going to work on substrates with this technique and see what I can come up with!! Thank you so much for sharing these techniques and allowing us the education to then play however we want!!

I do like this orientation a little better, although I never really thought about it before you switched. It seems a little more personal to me, watching from the same perspective as you. Just a comment on underpants... more is better!! 😂 I was one of those people who didn't understand why you spent the time and material, just to cover it up, but I so get it now! When I actually started working on an altered book, my first pages were so flat. I liken it to cooking. You can't cook a complicated recipe and just sprinkle some salt on at the end - you have to develop the flavor for each layer. It sure pays off in the end result and the same is true with the pages for these beautiful, enchanting books. I appreciate your instruction. I'm hooked.

I just ruined a photo (thankfully, just a newly-printed one and not an original!) when I tried to mod-podge it down to a page in my altered book that had a watercolor background. What do I use to seal my watercolors, so they won't run and bleed when I try to add focal points later? I wrongly ASSUMED that when it dried, I would be fine. 😩

I re-watch ur older vids while having coffee alot of mornings LM.. it gets me in the creative mood & inspires me to play on my table! We moved back to Austin TX a week ago (we had been in Sedona for 6 mo) but we couldn't find a place to live!! It's ungodly expensive lol. So very glad I found you. I never knew there was this talent inside me when I stated my Altered Book I made out of cardboard. I use the Amazon link when I see a tool I need. This is such an easy to add piece of interest to the book--if you remember to do it early in the process of making the book!! LOL Unfortunately, I decided to add them when my book no longer closed, but clips and books on the inside of the page did the trick (another juicy tid bit I picked up from a video of yours)!! 3 toilet paper rolls worked really well in my book for placement- can't wait to make the sticks to put inside!!

I knew there had to be a reason I've been keeping a variety of paper roll inserts. I saw a suggestion for making them more flexible...I think spraying with water & glycerine, maybe, & then it was put through an embossing machine. Love your layering approach.

I tried to locate the youtube using toilet rolls but can't find it. The glycerine softens the cardboard and converts it so that it's flexible. This shows the process with a piece of cardboard & then it's put through the embosser when wet. Here’s a trick everyone should use with Stazon ink pads. The plastic insert that comes with the ink pad to help maintain the moisture in is quite a pain to keep track of; one gets ink on ones hands, etc, etc. Take some pop dots (foam with adhesive on both sides) and put 5 down on the plastic insert in an “X” pattern. Be sure the plastic in on the ink pad correctly, then put on the lid and press down. Now that plastic piece is stuck to the lid in the correct position, like is a part of the lid. No more mess, no more losing it!

I wrap my sandpaper on a wood block and if need be tape it on one side with the extra paint on brushes and that card, I have a book/s- re-purposed of course :) - and paint the paper with the left over. This can then be used as backgrounds and tags and such :)

Hi LorriMarie! You have become my latest obsession!! I love what you do, and I'm learning SO MUCH!! Your videos have inspired me so much, and I can't tell you how grateful I am for you!! I do have a question for you...I'm attempting to combine bullet journaling with the mixed media altered book, and I need to know what I can seal my pages with that I can go back and write on. I love the idea of making, for example, a collaged calendar, but I would like to be able to go back and write things in on the dates. Mod podge doesn't really allow for this. oh bonnie....we have an amazing 'village' here! i do have some suggestions for you! it depends, ofcourse, what you are writing with...and how much of the background you want to show through...white gesso will give you the bite you are looking for and adds a fun 'cloudy' look....clear gesso will give you the bite...but...will not give you a 'light' background....i hope this helps! see you on the table!!!
