WOW. this fits so damn well. It really sets the mood and tone for the first half of Season 3 and how it deals with losing Shiro and how the team has to adjust to the changes. when it switches from Shiro to Keith piloting Black it really shows how Keith is stepping up and how he's coming to terms with losing him. You really see it even affect Allura, her and Keith grew close to Shiro. Great job!

Thanks. Allura's was also intended to hint back at her wanting to take up her dad's Lion and not being able to, but Shiro's always on everyone's minds so... ;)

Shit, this one might just knock "Re: Re:" from its spot as my favorite of the unofficial (but official in my heart) openings. Its amazing how you found like, the perfect song to fit the mood of the season, not only in its uplifting beat after the ED "The Call," but with the lyrics too. "What a mess, my princess/And you wonder why I'm lying awake" (nice job on editing the music here, it's seamless; I didn't even realize it was edited until I looked up the full song) - Paired up with the team looking over the empty cockpit of Black, and then /right/ when "my princess" is sung we switch to the second shot that has Allura more in focus. "You say you've had enough" - The perfect shot of Keith being fed up with Lance's attitude and vice versa "You say we're out of luck" - Again, perfect shot of Keith basically telling the small coalition gathering that everyone is out of luck without Shiro there "But this is something that we both thought we could rise above" - This is especially poignant after Allura admitted in season 2 that she wanted to keep the dark history of the original paladins a secret from the new team, which is what I think you were going for here by overlaying Allura's mournful visage with the original lineup. "You say you're missing me/we're both in agony" - I don't know why the writers are so damn set on making Allura cry but you all got me good. Again, very poignant now that we know for sure her father was the original Red Paladin. "Or is it just the thought of someone else taking me?" - I swear the lyrics say "taking my place" here, but either way it works. I absolutely adore the montage at this part that starts by showcasing all the Red Paladins, followed by Yellow, Green, Blue (that victorious smirk on Allura's face, I love it), and finally all the Black Paladins. And then to end on a group shot of the team flying away paired with "flying away," followed by Blue finally accepting Allura and letting down her barrier, and the final shot of Allura's smile of happiness and gratitude. I know you said in response to someone else that you had this pre-planned thanks to SDCC and a lot of it being from earlier seasons, but it still blows my mind how you got this out on the same day s3 dropped. Kudos and thank yous to you for all the time and effort you put into selecting the songs, editing them and the clips, and putting it all together, because it really shows. As always, looking forward to your future OPs and EDs. =)

I had it planned out a few months ago--plus seeing the first episode and trailer at Comic-Con helped me know it was probably going to work the way I wanted it. And yeah, I try to avoid spoilery stuff since it's supposed to be played as an opener. Which is kind of hard, because when you make an AMV you want to just shove in all the big moments to tell the story, you know? It made Season 2 really frustrating, because Allura's stuff was either visually uninteresting or... like kicking druids and Hagar around (major spoilers) so I had to have less Allura in that one.

You're the first person to recognize that I edit the music too! Choosing and editing a song down to 90 seconds is actually my favorite part of the process, because it's the both trickiest and and most influential part of the process. I don't edit the song to match the video, I choose and edit the song first and then make the video match the song. The actual editing is difficult to explain verbally, but involves both listening and watching the music while I edit, to make sure the rhythm and melody sounds organic. Sometimes I have to get creative and take instrumentals from a totally different part of the song or apply effects to make it all work.
