I love this idea for a miniture quilt, but could I suggest something? After weaving it, but upside down, iron on a piece of light iron-on interfacing (you will have to put another piece of fabric on top so you don't melt the interfacing). Then the weaving will stay in one piece and you can do what you want with it without it falling apart.

Adding to this: you could put fusible interfacing ("Wonder Under" or similar) between the weaving and backing to join them, then bind the edges with a ribbon or more fabric strips using glue or more fusible interfacing. You could do a single ribbon folded in half, or use different ribbons for the top and bottom.

@tinycraftlife *LONG REPLY BUT PLEASE READ!* In all honesty now, I URGE you to grab yourself a cheap, secondhand if necessary, sewing machine and glue your face to the screen of the "University Of KZbin!" A quick breakdown of sewing is to look at it like this, most of the "work" of sewing, is the measuring, cutting, and ironing. You can do all of those, right? You don't need a sewing machine that has all the bells and whistles, I PROMISE you. MOST projects use a plain old straight stitch! Most projects are ALSO made from straight lines and squares or rectangles. Pillowcases, curtains, handbags, cushions, tablecloths, placemats, napkins, T towels, tablet covers, purses, wallets, pouches, quilts, sheets, fitted sheets, duvet covers, book covers, pencil cases, make up bags, reusable shopping bags, drawstring bags, blinds, home decor, fabric baskets or boxes, and even most clothes! If you look around your home right now, and think of everything that is made of fabric, the majority are square or rectangle. Go on, have a look and tell me I'm wrong...😉 Yes even a whole ton of clothes are joined up rectangles, including most dresses, even the most fancy ones! You know what the secret is...ELASTIC! Here's a VERY BASIC example: 1. Imagine having two large rectangles of fabric, each of them being 1 metre wide, by, 1½ metres long. 2. Lay them right sides together, and sew up both the edges that are 1½ metre, to form side seams. 3. You've now formed a big fabric tube yes? 4. Still leaving it inside out, take it to the ironing board, to work on the shorter 1 metre edges. Fold one end of the "tube" back by ½ an inch and iron. When you've gone all the way round, fold over ½ an inch again and iron. Sew this hem down to keep it neat. 5. Repeat this process for the other end of the tube, except this time, fold back ½ an inch and iron, followed by folding 1 inch on the second time round. Iron well, and sew this hem neatly in place all the way round, but leave 2 inches unsewn. 6. Measure out elastic that is the length that fits comfortably around your body, straight across above your boobs but going under each armpit. Pull it snug for a comfy but secure fit, and cut that length off. 7. Using a safety pin on one end of the elastic, feed it through the gap you left unsewn all the way round that 1 inch hem. When the elastic comes back through the gap, overlap the two ends of the elastic by 1 inch, and sew back and forth multiple times to secure the elastic firmly. Sew the 2 inch gap shut of the hem. 8. Turn it the right way out and iron the whole thing if necessary, then it's time to style it. Pull the tube on over your head and pull your arms out so the elastic holds it firmly in place. You've now created a very basic strapless maxi dress. A "tube" dress, that's why tube tops are called that! It may not look very flattering depending on your shape or size, but it's perfect as a beach cover up, or even for getting changed on the beach without anyone seeing, if you pop the elastic round your neck instead so your arms can rummage underneath. It's also perfect for lounging at home in warmer weather. But, just because it's basic, doesn't mean you can't build an ENTIRE wardrobe out of these. How? Imagine wearing a necklace with a large decorative brooch type pendant hanging on it, and clipping that to the middle of the neckline of the dress, to create a glam halter neck dress look. Slip on a jacket, cardigan or shrug to cover your arms for a more formal look. Tie a fabric scarf or loose belt around your waist to give you more definition. Strap on a proper fixed belt snugly, and pull the fabric out above the belt to shorten the skirt length and make the top more baggy. Throw a t shirt over the dress and knot at the waist to give a more slouchy, casual, boho look. Just by varying the fabric and the length of these "tubes", you could literally have an entire wardrobe all year round for any occasion. A black sparkly fabric left flowing, can look boho chic with sunglasses, loose ponytail, sandals, a sun hat, and layered bracelets and necklaces. The exact same tube could be dressed up with a halter brooch necklace, hair in a soft up-do, sparkly drop earrings, high heels, a clutch bag, and tying a long black belt around your waist that trails at the back. Ok, sorry, I know I've gone into one 😂 but I'm just SOOOO incredibly passionate about females being able to sew. "Feminine" skills such as baking and sewing have long since been frowned upon by feminists claiming women can be anything they want. Yes of course they can, absolutely! But that also includes being FREE to choose to be a "traditional" female. Surely the idea of freedom for women, is to WIDEN their choices, not swap one set of skills for another!? That's still just as limiting then isn't it? All women gained from that, was having to multitask more than ever and being burnt out. Younger women (generally speaking) are typically more interested in wearing fashionable clothes, but nice clothes aren't a priority if you have children, and Mums often sacrifice treats for themselves in favour of something the children or the home needs. Money is tight for people right now and even children's needs are limited with the cost of living. But there's always charity shops, with curtains, blankets, tablecloths and bedding, metres of potential sewing fabric for very cheap, that can easily become other things. If your little girl grows too tall for a dress, shorten it to a top or skirt for next year. Jeans can become shorts. Patchwork is a great way to maximise limited fabrics of one design, by choosing a bundle of smaller fabrics that complement each other, they can be patched to form a bigger piece of fabric. Old adult t shirts can become leggings, shorts or pyjama bottoms for little ones. Any scraps can be turned into smaller projects such as wallets and purses, multiple scraps can be turned into reusable grocery bags, fabric toy bins. Strips can be plaited to make a boho belt, bracelet cuffs, added to jean hems for decoration, or stitched in a coil to make coasters, place mats or keep coiling bigger and make bathmats or even big washable rugs. All homes need storage and organisation. You can tidy up a toy-cluttered bedroom that is limited on space for more furniture, by hanging cheap coat-hooks along their bedroom wall, or screwing up a length of scrap wood and screwing cup hooks all along it, and then hang a bunch of drawstring bags along the wall. They could match their room by using plain coloured sheets for example. I did this in my Son's bedroom so toy cars went into one bag, Lego in another, toy animals in the next etc, all the smaller bits and bobs. Ideal for craft rooms too. You can also make thicker padded drawstring bags for putting trainers in so they don't get scuffed in the washing machine. Or make them with net curtain lace fabrics, for putting bras or socks in the washing machine. The thin net curtain bags are also great for buying fresh fruit and vegetables instead of using plastic bags. They weigh hardly anything, are reusable, and allow the cashier to see what's inside. They are also great for hanging on bath taps for putting bath toys in neatly whilst allowing them to drip. You can also make those hanging pockets and they can go on the back of a kitchen cabinet door for bin bags, new dishcloths, that sort of thing. In the hallway for wooly hats and gloves. By the door with doggy 💩 bags, brush, leads, collars, flea drops, worming tablets, nail clippers etc. Hanging pockets are perfect for prescription pills, pens, pencils, scissors, stapler and staples, elastic bands, paper clips, hair clips and scrunchies, make up, combs and brushes, seed packets, small tools, toys...the list is endless of what simple square pockets on a larger hanging square of fabric can be used for! Ok I'm gonna shut up now but I truly do hope you overcome your fear and go for it! It is MUCH EASIER than you think and can literally transform your home, storage, organisation, shopping, clothing. I think a sewing machine, even with limited experience, is the ULTIMATE gift that keeps on gifting, and keeps on growing the more you do! You're a very creative, imaginative and accomplished young woman ANYWAY! You and a sewing machine, pfft, you'll pick it up in NO TIME at all, and it might just be the best skill that you ever gift yourself. 😘 (Sorry for the Novel! 😳)

Thank you so much!💕💕 I'm glad this is useful. It definitely can be used in other projects too. I also had a thought that you can make this quilt a bit fancier by turning it 90 degrees and instead of having squares, they would look diamond shaped. Not sure if this makes sense. @jeanettereynolds3151 also gave a great idea to add a narrow bit of lace across the top and on edge of pillowcase. @kathrynnielsen8367 idea of interfacing is such a great idea. It makes the quilt a lot neater and sturdier. I am going to make a few more of these quilts by trying the new ideas😊
@whatevernextpolyclayartisa88392 ай бұрын
@@tinycraftlife Very useful for me for sure. I like the idea of diamonds as an alternative to squares, so I will try this too. I may try making matching curtains and even a rug because once the interfacing is ironed on you could theoretically cut the quilting into any shape and put a fringe around it to finish it off?
