Hi Bill. Laurent Ferrier over Patek would be a difficult but privileged choice to have. And I do think that the JLC would be a more interesting choice over a hard to obtain sub. On the subject of something much cheaper, I just got a Tissot le locle Powermatic 80 and can't stop wearing it. It really is an attractive looking watch for very little.

I love the Tissot, Tuna, having more than once proclaimed that the Tissot Heritage Petite Seconde is a great little watch available on secondary markets for well under $1k.I also like the Powermatic 80 sans the silicon hairspring. Take care, Bill

Hmm, Longines is actually regarded as an alternative to many higher-priced brands. Interesting…

Hahahaah. Bill speaks his mind and his video topics and in this case, watches from brands for discussion, simply reflects what he’s thinking. So Bill, you gonna get a Laco soon?

Its just a shame the modern Longines watches use basic ETA's movements, instead of unique inhouse movements like in the pre-Swatch group era. The brand is a shell of its former self.

I'm watch-broke now Hardijoe. No Lado for me...

Gilberto, I like Longines...punching above their weight. Take care, Bill

Could just be me, but would opt for the left watch over the right (alternative) in all cases! 😀

Could be, Keep, but I imagine you're not alone. Take care, Bill

I love Laurent Ferrier but the new Sandstone reference does away with the natural escapement as well as the internal angles on the 6 o’clock gear train bridge and the skeletonized steel balance cock (4 internal angles) entirely. Better off getting a Classic Micro Rotor secondhand for $35K and yes those smoke Patek as far as finishing goes and it’s not even close.

Good point Melon. Take care, Bill

Interesting...not sure why longines is in the group... Are you talking about pre swatch longines
@watchartsci8 күн бұрын
Why not Longines, KA? They are an overlooked brand, and have some excellent watches. I have a Longines Ephémérides Solaires 5235-one of the most affordable equation of time watches I know of and very well built. Take care, Bill

The laco spanks the Zulu...apart from being quite large

I like them both, Dan...no spanking. Take care, Bill

Laurent Ferrier is probably more comparable to PP since they are swiss. But I would go with a Mauritz Grossman

Bill i would say instead of Laurent ferrier in steel case ,parmigiani fleurier new toric watches have full gold new movements around same 50k might as well take price drop in grey market i say if price is right i would go for it 😂 as we get precious metal case and full gold hand finished movement.
@HRM.H8 күн бұрын
The new Toric's are going to be great deals someday.

As a big fan of PF's (I own 4), I did think about it; however, since I find the post-2009 Pateks not much better than a Swatch wearing a tuxedo, I think the LF in steel was a more appropriate comeuppance for PP. After all, LF used to enter races with Paul Newman, Abns. Take care, Bill

@@HRM.H Indeed. I had a hard time understanding their steep price increase. The solid gold case Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Automatic Chronomètre was priced at EUR16.9k in 2017. Whereas the new Toric Manual is CHF45k. Sure, the new Toric has a solid gold movement but the automatic chronomètre of 2017 has had a solid gold rotor. Tough to understand.

@@watchartsciHi Bill, may I ask why you think of Patek that way? Is it because the silicon hairspring or there is more to it like the compromised movement decoration and perhaps bland design? Because technically, their movements are superior to their past ones, no?
@watchartsci5 күн бұрын
@@taylantorin If you're saying that silicon hairsprings are superior to ones made of transitional metals, you'd be right interns of non-magnetization, better withstanding heat and cold ... but that's not my point. An Apple Smart Watch is better than any ticking mechanical watch. There's a certain artistry to creating a watch that works on the same essentials as the one's of Abraham Louis Breguet. I loved my old Calatrava, and there are some pre 2009 Pateks on my list. Patek chose to give up on hairsprings made of transitional metals, going for metalloids instead. From my perspective, might as well get a G-Shock and call it a day. Take care, Bill
