Before replacing alternator one should check all negative cables/ strap.

So, you said its simply impractical to fix the voltage regulator inside of the alternator. What about a Toyota Highlander that was made in 2008. What about the 150 amp alternator that comes on them. The one that is $785 for a (REMANUFACTURED) one. Or a $1094 for a New one. How about those are those more practicle to just replace. Also just a reminder that the job to replace that particular altenator also takes a minimum of 4hrs to remove. thats With the experience tools and lifts that a shop would have.

I'm having this problem right now with a 2011 kia soul. I was blown away after checking the engine light to see 30 volts across the terminals!! 34.2 steady while running. I have no choice but to run the battery down and get it into a shop asap

Your car may need to be sold. Lots of things can be fixed mechanically. But spiritually it's not easy to do

Why would you say that rebuilding an alternator has fallen out of favor? That is not correct or true. Most alternators can be repaired by replacing one single part, costing much less than a brand new one.

That’s very true you can fix your alternator from anywhere from 10-40$ My voltage regulator went out and it cost me exactly $11 to fix and they wanted $230 at the auto parts store to replace the alternator!!! And I fixed probably at least 12 alternators this way in my lifetime and never really had to buy another one

Dumbly replacing the alternator is not a fix. A fix is a repair.
