O'Reilly Auto Parts took the faulty intermittent alternator they sold me for the 1986 Toyota back. the alternator for the F600 and the 4020 were rebuilt at a locate shop. 2018 was the year of the failed alternator here at The Little Farm.

My altanator went on my 584 burning smell squeeking noise I assumed it needed a new belt but no its the altanator, should have it today I think it's been going for a while as I'd have intermittent burning rubber smell before the noises started happening 👍

Yea it’s Smokey, loud, uncomfortable, and crude. But it’s still some of the best technology the 1950-1960s had to offer!

Like that toolbox on your 685. I've never seen one in that spot before. I'd like to see the inventory you do and what you take to the field on the tractor. It varies for us depending on the main use for each one, but I'd like to see what you want to have as a base set.

Still having nightmares of the CNH Gold value alternator I bought years ago that lasted 80 hrs especially where it said it was made !!! Enjoy as always your videos. 👍

Thank you PA Farms. I'm in the market for a tractor. Looking at Case IH 685 in Africa. I'm a newbie with tractors. I want to stick with the known names, but they cost more on average - JD, MF, Ford, etc. What expensive parts tend to need frequent replacing in the 685? How many hours can the 685 go before it needs to be rebuilt? Thank you.

Seems like you should be able to return it if it doesn't work right out of the box even if there is an extended warranty. I think there is some sort of legal mumbo jumbo that implies a guarantee that a new product should work lol

Yea it’s a handy spot when you need something but all the dirt and water goes in it.

My CaseIH 495 doesn't have that toolbox on the left side platform below the clutch......where did you get the new alternator for the 685?

Yea my 395 doesn’t either, I think the 585-595 series is when they started putting them in. I got it from All States Ag Parts. I just put the link to the alternator in the description.

Never known a place that wouldn't take a faulty new alternator back (rebuilt or new OEM). I don't think there's anything you can do electrical wise with the connectors that would short out an alternator. I suppose there may be, but it's never happened to me.

I’m not sure. I know lots of places have a disclaimer that says something to the tune of “electrical parts are non returnable”. I know our dealership wouldn’t take them back.
