Heat exchangers transfer heat between various fluids (gas or liquid) without them mixing or coming in direct contact with each other. Therefore, these devices can move heat without transferring the gas or liquid that carried the heat. Heat exchangers can help cool or heat buildings and they can also enable machines and engines to work more efficiently too. There are several kinds of heat exchangers, but they all to the same job-transfer heat from one fluid to another one. However, they work in different ways.
Alternative Heating and Supplies carries all types of heat exchangers, including shell and tube heat exchangers, plate exchangers, and water to air heat exchangers. Shell and tube heat exchangers are useful for applications that have high flow rates, pressure, and temperature loads. They also are recommended if you need to handle contaminated liquids. Whereas, a plate exchanger (including a brazed plate heat exchanger), contains corrugated plates that are fastened and mounted together in a frame. They are perfect for applications where pressure and temperature demands are not high, and where there is not a lot of build-up or particle debris within the fluid. Finally, water to air heat exchangers transfers hot water through copper tubes. They have high-density aluminum fins with minimal flow resistance, and you typically use them in outdoor boiler applications.

Nice video, and thanks for the explanation of the different heat exchanger types. I'm interested in using one of these with solar thermal evacuated tube collector instead of wood boiler.

Honestly I don't think solar could supply that type of heat, you would need very intense magnification from sunlight to heat a large volume and move it quickly. Unfortunately as of now the only solar use I see it Black tarps to absorb sunlight...particularly the tarp ath the BOTTOM of the pool.

Bought your SS370 tube shell , is it to be mounted vertical or horizontal??

Very well explained. Just what I was looking for. I suppose a fella could have multiple zones. Say for hot tub, pool, in floor radiant heating, hot water tank heating as long as he had a big enough boiler?

Great video! One question, why not include a flow switch so the controller doesn’t have to be turned off and on with the pump? It would just sense the water flow and activate the heating valve, if the water isn’t at the set temperature?

Why not just use a UV bio-filter instead of chlorine, That is what I would do, because your all ready filtering for matrilateral.

Chlorine is basic / alkaline not an acid.
