I am thrilled to see so many people discover Cacophony/Friedman/Becker! I was 14 years old when i first heard them waaay back in 1987. At the time Yngwie was pretty much still king of the road( i thought so anyways)..until the day I heard that first Cacophony album. I remember seeing those little shrapnel advertisements in my guitar magazines...couldn't resist. The advertisement for that record did not lie, it said it left listeners looking at their speakers in disbelief. That was no hype! This was something I had not expected, something so new, and so perplexing. For years people would look at me sideways when they asked who my favorite guitarist was and I'd tell them Jason Becker and Marty Friedman. WHOO??!!! lol I literally haven't been the same since then. An older guitar buddy of mine saw them play in a shitty bar in saint louis in 1988 to a crowd of about 30 people. He told me about them later how awesome his band was that he had saw....he didn't know how to say it and goes yeah Kaka pony or some shit..lol. Said they were cocky & after the first band one of 'em goes. You haven't heard anything yet. hehe he said they were awesome. I ran out to my brother's car and grabbed that tape and go you mean THESE GUYS??!!I was shocked. lucky f'r!(i was too young for bars) They opened up my eyes to what is possible on the guitar! Such ferocious new ideas, those weird harmonies...how in the world did they think of that stuff?! Back then trying to figure this stuff out was dam near impossible. And getting anything near their album studio sound was downright impossible. I'd listen to these shitty cassette tapes at full speed, rewind and listen again times 1000 and plink around on my shitty gorilla practice amp and just wonder how in the hell??!!. I wore out at least 4 tape decks due to Cacophony alone. Never thought I'd see such a close cover of this stuff and with such a close tone to boot! just awesome! Gotta love the technology too. great sounding gear like in this video and talented people that have harnessed the power of being able to figure this complex stuff out tone and all... Bravo Alexandra!
