I like how all your pieces have this refreshing quirky, intelligence behind them - they're all very well thought out and they all seem to have a message. Clearly you are not just putting out pretty-sounding music - I like reading your descriptions about the music and explaining it in a way a non-musical person like myself can understand.

@meatwad314, I already have a piece called "Escaping a Nightmare", and there is of course the movie and arrangement "The Great Escape", it's over-used. This is much more original, and more badass if you understand the play on words.

@jdorsuhm, I'm thinking of cutting a lot of parts from this 9 minute thing to keep it all under 7 minutes so it can potentially be marched for WGI events. And the whole end part after the last hit would be cut, just leaving that last hit as the ending, with maybe a more relieved variation. Not sure yet though. Thanks for your thoughts either way, glad you think it sounds good.

@Tenorcapacity121, You CAN write music for instruments you can't play. For example, I wrote a brass chorale (kinda sucks, but that's beyond the point) and I have a friend who is track-recording all the parts. With some knowledge of transpositions and instrument ranges, music can be written for any instrument by anyone.

@rikuantu It depends on how large your drumline is and how many of each of the mallet parts you utilize. At a very minimum, 23 players, with minimal pit parts and no cymbal line. But I recommend keeping the cymbal line and having between 30 and 40 players.

@Friedoyster3, probably 30-40, depending on how many players would be in the battery, and if all pit parts would be covered.

Wow, I thought you were going to view and comment every piece of mine. 9 pieces is quite a good amount of comments, haha. Thank you very much! Yes, you nailed it. I like to use music to create a product out of overlooked, everyday things. I like weird analogies and plays on words too, I think they give the music some depth, provoke thoughts while listening. Thanks very much for listening and commenting! It was a very nice to surprise to see all your comments.

@theDrumkilla, I understand what you mean about Cavaliers' music arrangers and the way they write. I get a lot of influence from drum corps (obviously), but I'm honestly not really sure where it came from for this one. Thanks a lot though, I really appreciate your compliments :)

@SnareKidJoel, First, thanks for all your compliments and acknowledgements. And I agree, it may have to be more of a standing concert/battery percussion ensemble. But, I do plan on cutting some parts to keep in under 7 min, like as a different version. I actually haven't looked much at the live velocities, I thought they played back automatically with different dynamics, if that makes sense. If you notice I'm doing something without it's full potential, please help me by all means!

@MatthewGmen, Thanks for listening that far! It would have been cool to put that there, and I was thinking about it too honestly. @Tenorcapacity121, It's not necessarily an "indoor drumline show". And anyway, if it was, I believe it's better balanced battery vs. frontline than any of today's indoor percussion ensemble writing.

@YogSothothOfGuitars, Well, it's pretty obvious when I get comments on my pieces like: "I have this music, want to trade?" or some shit like that. And I know for certain I never sold them a copy. Posting the sheets for everyone to see just isn't possible with the world the way people are. So, sadly it's not happening anymore. I may even start only posting small segments, which would really suck.

@reeldeelpeel- that's okay, i was mainly reffereing to drumline because the parts in an indoor show are meant to challenge the drummers ability and should be written by a relativley expirenced drummer.

@Tenorcapacity121, Yeah, it does help, a lot. But it isn't true that you "can't" write for an instrument you don't play. Do you really think every single classical composer knew every instrument in the orchestra? I'm just making sure you don't mean to send this message out.

Excellent stuff man! You've done wonders with this thing! Great job and I look forward to hearing more compositions of yours in the future! I do have one comment to add though... this may be just a personal opinion, but I think the show would be soooo much better if it ended loudly as opposed to the more placid ending that you have composed. However, that's just my opinion... Oh, and by the way, you should REALLY consider getting this show published somewhere and performed!

Sorry, I ran out of characters in my first comment haha. But for example, when writing flams in the batterie parts I always set the grace notes to a live velocity of 61, unless it is a passage played at piano or mezzo-piano; then I set it at 39. I think it makes flams sound a little less like a glitch, you know? Sorry if I'm explaining stuff you already know, just trying to help out a fellow composer. :)

Awesome work, Eric! The title "Coast" for the rhythmic break justifies the grooviness of it that comes out of nowhere. I absolutely loved the material repeated in the closer. I see this more as a percussion ensemble with batterie as opposed to an indoor show though, mainly because of its length. Still incredible, nonetheless. Do you use live velocities in Sibelius? If not, I suggest you do because even though it's a bit tedious, it really does make everything sound more realistic.

@ZMaine, Yeah, I agree about Gospel music, just don't like the paunchiness, and the fact that my own music reminds me of it, lol. I think what I did is didn't end it with the minor root, like I used the relative major. I understand what you mean. I'm glad it works though.

@ZMaine, Well, I appreciate your compliments and loyalty with my music. Thanks for noticing the modulation. The only thing I don't like about it is it kinda makes it sound Gospel since gospel music has modulations everywhere. And does the last chord really sound unresolved? As long as it sounds ok. I meant for the 4th of the 4 measures to feel like the first of a new four, idk.
