That "please break my heart" line gets me so much, idk if it's entirely applicable to what the story of the music video is, but it puts this picture in my head of someone who had just killed someone they felt love for and the inability to take something like that back. Where you wish so much to bring them back you would give anything, even the very relationship you killed them over. "Please don't be dead, you can break my heart instead, just please don't be dead" is all that rings in my mind.

I think that's atleast part of the point filming it like this. Like without the context your conclusions might be unfounded. I mean the most typical reaction would be that he's in the wrong because she's a woman and you should take almost anything they do to you, almost, because when you find out that she's some jealous outsider breaking in to murder you and your girlfriend/wife or something like that it should cause people to think she's in the wrong.

It reflects how traumatic events work on your mind. If you view this video in reverse (events going the right way) everything goes much quicker and every reaction he had seems logical. But when it’s over, everything plays backwards and starts to seem jumbled (such as in this video) and nothing makes sense. And he, as well as the viewer, wonders why he didn’t do things differently.

it’s loosely based on the book “Where the Wild Things Are,” in which a little boy travels to the land of the wild things, and the wild things really love him. they love him so much they are willing to harm him to keep him in their land. so this lady loves the guy so much she will do whatever it takes to keep him, even if it means really hurting him.

what’s happening is the woman is the intruder, presumably the ex gf, he had gotten home to see his wife/gf tied up. she screams while the ex tries to kill him. they fight for a bit until he kills her. he was defending himself and his wife/gf. However, the man seemed to know the woman because instead of freaking out and calling 911, he tries to console her as if he knows her. WHen the one you call the stalker (the wife) and the man fight, it is violent, but also gives off marital vibes. im reading into it, but I don't believe that this band would portray something so simple as "man good - woman crazy kidnapper"

It is a masterpiece indeed. You only begin to understand it all near the end and then you probably replay the video from the beginning to see what happens. The first time I watched this I found it amazingly artistic.

@@moisesroman9414 "masterpiece" fits well. Like, the best thing a professional makes in their lives, what else would you call the most well-known music video of someone? Edit: Also, my comment made me once again remember the importance of fully reading stuff before reacting... well, i'm having a bad neurons day, I guess.

Running through comments I would say that to better understand the story of the video you may need to watch it reversed. Some people even after the end of the video thought the man was the abductor/agitator for various reasons such as his casual attitude and knowing exactly where the woman was tied up; however, if you watch it chronologically you see he walked in casual, tossed his keys on the counter, went to hang up his coat, hears something, drops his coat in a panic as he pulls back the counter to find his wife. The proof that it is his wife is that she is wearing a ring, he is wearing a ring, and the other woman is not (they make a point to show everyone's ring finger). While i would like to defend the guy, they did make a point to show everyone's ring finger. From a filmmaking/storytelling perspective this indicates to me that this was indeed a jilted lover out to make the married man suffer. Pure Theory: (referring to the cast as Husband/Wife/Other Woman. The other woman came to the house for the Husband. Meets the wife and in a jealous fit ties her up, planning to drown the wife in the tub as a suicide. this would leave the man heart broken, and all hers. As the bath is filling the other woman hears the door, and the husband tossing his keys. The other woman grabs a knife, and when she sees the Husband comforting the Wife, the Other Woman goes into a rage. A fight ensues ending when the man finally knocks the other woman out, and into the tub. He sets the breeze block he used on her chest. He weeps knowing this is all his fault as The other woman drowns. The irony is two fold. The Husband likely broke it off with her to save his marriage, and this will ultimately end his marriage. Meanwhile, the other woman was killed in the same manner in which she had planned to murder the wife.

I agree with the theory, but I am just curious about this "other woman". Was she his mistress and was scorned, or just a woman who was obsessed with him and jealous of his wife?

pretty sur that the story is way more straightforward than this. The man comes back home from work, he hears a woman screaming, realizes it's his wife tied up; her wife warns him that there's another person behind him. Then he starts fighting the other woman who surprises him, assuming that the man cheated on his wife with her. She intends to kill him, and he ends up drowning her, I wouldn't say by accident

I never knew I had a favorite song until recently when someone asked me what my favorite song is and this song immediately came into my mind on reflex. It's about two people who love each other but their relationship is very sick and volatile. It makes me think of my mother, who is the only immediate family I have left. We don't talk anymore, not since my brother lost his life.

@Polystyrene1110 жыл бұрын
In an interview they explained that showing the video in the exact relationship to the song was unfeasible. So the song is about an obsessive boyfriend that murders his lover or atleast the person he obsess over with a breeze block (cinder block to the US). In the video the obsessive one is the woman who has been having an affair or atleast unrequited feelings towards the man and thinks that killing his wife will allow him to love her. Same basic concept but they couldn't get away with a domestic abuse murder on film so they changed the relationship to a justified murder just to get it past censors.
