In the mid 70's I drove Southdown Constant mesh manual Bristol RE's. With practice, lovely buses to drive with a gardner 150 I think and 5 speed box. 32' versions would reach 75mph and the longer 36' about 65mph. On the often empty late services I used to just go up and down the box purely for the fun. The Leopards on the other hand with 4 speed boxes would only reach about 42mph, although the later Leopard Grant coaches would reach 50mph if locked in low ratio, or 70mph if high ratio was also enabled.

These videos make me feel old. I drove so many of them "in anger". From the Bristol K type, lodeckers, RE's Mk 1, 2 and 3 VR's (constant mech and semi) Leylands from PD3 "Queen Marys" to various incarnation of leopards, Atlanteans National 1 and 2 from the earliest to latest, Tigers, Royal tigers, Ford 6 speed, various Bedfords, Volvos, DD buses and B10's Seddons and horrible DD "Dodgy" Daimlers, infamous for being impossible to drive in a straight line, upto Scanias of most types Mercedes coaches and Citarro 12m and Bendis. The old stuff had to be driven, the new stuff disappointingly easy and just requiring pointing. I think I've retired at the right time as the fun driving is forever gone.

@@elliottray2961 It's only allowed to have one emitted sound which cane be one tone or two tones a once or otherwise it is a musical horn which are not legal for use on the road.
