Been up to Alton a few dozen times and never knew there a Scrap Yard this Large. Thanks for Flyover. Would be interesting to see Auto Racks Cut Up. Thanks! 👍

With Alton Steel Inc being right next door to us, there is definitely demand for ferrous materials in our area. A large amount of recycled ferrous material in the greater St. Louis area gets new life in Alton. Thank you for your interest and comment, we are happy to share.

How many ex-UPs SD9043MACs did CP have in storage to be rebuilt? Are the current SD70ACUs considered successful rebuilds.

Whoa, whoa whoa! Why is CP cutting up the 90MACs they just bought?! I thought they were going to be for the SD70ACU project!

Great looking yard! Love the flyover angle. Heard you guys pay the best for steel in the STL area is that true?

Sounds like a waste of money for Canadian Pacific to purchase these SD90MACs only to cut them up for scrap

Wow! It is hard to see a modern, AC motor locomotive like the SD90/43 MAC being scrapped! I remember when they were brand new and being delivered to UP, CP, and CIT Leasing. I also remember the Conrail SD80MACs when they were new also. Amazing how much time has passed. I noticed that at least one of the SD90/43 MACs is painted for the UP but has CP lettering. It seems that CPKC has given up on any rebuild projects. I know that CPKC has ordered 60 new locomotives from WABTEC. I wonder if they have ordered more of the evolution series units and if they have also ordered units from Progress Rail?
@joshthetrainfan4 ай бұрын
What engines did they order from Wabtec?
@maestromecanico5975 ай бұрын
So my takeaway from this is that CPKC has given up on any further SD70ACU rebuilds.

I hate to see any Trains die, but at least when they are correctly scrapped and recycled like this - it is far better than their just being dumped, forgotten about and left to rot.

We try to save and sell any usable parts on these locomotives to effectively recycle them and extend life.

Is this what was once the Laclede Steel facility? Does this video show where the Alton Box Board paper mill once was?

This is on the Alton Steel Mill property. Laclede Steel was once here. Not sure about the Alton Box Board paper mill.

Nice operation you have there. Family owned? What song do you have playing in the background?

Yes, we are proudly a family owned company. We appreciate the compliment. Not sure of the song, Vimeo gives you some non copyright suggestions to use while editing.

Shame about the SD90s, but they were a bad design and really should never have been built. Which makes it a bit more ironic when I ride the Burlington into Chicago and see SD40-2s and GP30 rebuilds still hard at work.

Ex-CP Exx-PRLX Exxx-UP units that they appear to be scrapping. Progress gave CP a deal too good to refuse for them, the sat stored for a few months supposedly awaiting rebuild to ACu’s, then the merger happened and here we are. I was really hoping they got rebuilt 😔
