Curse at Alton Manor and Sub terra this year were the best part of 2023 to be honest. It's also shameful they didn't offer access around the whole park for disabled guests for so long into the season. As you said, Skyride has not opened once this year. If you know there's a problem, find a suitable alternative for your guests. The scare mazes were not worth the additional cost since most of them were exactly the same as the previous 4-5yrs they have been in place. Alton Towers have bled us dry and more for Merlin's capitalist greed. Families travel for hundreds of miles for a magical experience, but only get on 2 rides. The magic has gone from this wonderful park. Let us hope the beast of Nemesis will bring it all back next year ❤

Yes! Totally agree. I really don’t care much for the events that they do. Scarefest looks good but that’s it. I would much rather see ride reliability and availability, repair work and cleaning around some of the coasters etc

I enjoy your vlogs from all the parks you go and visit but I don’t know why, your videos from Alton Towers are my most favourite 🥰 it’s probably to do with the fact that it is my favourite UK park and how much it obviously means to you both. Gotta say, Merlin have absolutely DESTROYED this park's reputation. Yet again after my yearly Scarefest trip, I noticed every ride queue time was between 90-200 minutes which is unacceptable for families standing in the rain. The average rating for the park is a pathetic 1 star because of this. They keep selling more tickets even when rides are shut and maintenence is poor on a good day. If they keep this up, they'll run the business into the ground or have another lawsuit to deal with. It's such a shame seeing the park in a worse state each year. Luckily I always get queue jump tickets, but I can't imagine the frustration people must get from waiting 3 hours for a 2 minute ride. It's almost not worth going anymore and I'm seriously contemplating giving scarefest a miss next year until they make DRASTIC changes. Hex was shut, Nemesis was shut, Oblivion was shut, Smiler kept breaking down, Galactica didn't run tests until 10:30am... Like WTF are they even doing? 🙄

I agree that if the park/rides opens at 10am - they should have the rides open at 10am. I had a similar experience with Wickerman where they took ages to open it when there was no need. All in all though I enjoyed the time I spent at Alton Towers this year. Can’t wait for Nemesis! Similarly to you I do purchase fast track as standard. Maybe that’s why I enjoy it more but you shouldn’t have to purchase fast track to have a good time.

Gonna cost me another £120 for a full day of fast track because they never used to scan platinum tickets. Although we shouldn't have to pay for it, it's the only proper way to do the park during Scarefest if you want to enjoy yourself. It's such a shame too because the overall vibes this year were a little off and people were upset and frustrated more than normal

I totally agree, I’ve always said there should be a limit of how many people can go in a day, then that way everyone has a chance on the rides and the queues won’t be so bad, without fast track or the access pass, you can only manage to go on about 2/3 rides, and you pay about £58 just to go in, so it’s not worth it

A possible reason why rides are down so much is because of the poor pay and conditions for maintenance engineers in theme parks in general, including Alton Towers, at a time where there is a national shortage in engineering. I am guessing most maintenance engineers will perfer to work at Toyota, JCB etc. I looked at a maintenance job which was paying nearly half compared to what was being paid by manufacturing which also offers more holidays and no working weekends...

Visited twice from Cornwall this year, once in July and once in October. Both times were incredibly busy(2+ hour queues for the Smiler) and very unreliable (both times Wickerman down for over 6 hours). Definitely need to put a bit of TLC into the park over the winter and a little bit of consideration for the customer experience for the next season

Been to Alton towers 5 times this year which is the most I have ever been in a year and I can't wait to go back next year and ride nemesis again. Overall I think it has been an alright season because of curse at Alton manor opening which was good. I have loved seeing nemesis being rebuilt can't wait to see it open again. By the sounds of things next season is going to be much better.

Me and my partner bumped into you both on Friday on Towers street. Thanks for taking time for a quick chat and a photo. It's the second time I've been lucky enough to meet you at Towers and you've been a pleasure both times, I have immense respect for the amount of work you both put in to bring us all consistently quality and fun content, and still have the time to have a chat with your viewers. Not been massively happy with how Towers has been this year. Ride availability and the appearance/maintenance of the park have continued to go downhill. However, Curse was a great addition and the removal of the retro squad, and the retrack of their most important coaster is a good sign for the future, and a sign that the new management may turn the park around. But I miss the world class theme park that it used to be. But I'm massively excited for what the future holds for what is still my favourite place to visit in the UK. Loved this video, the fireworks were fantastic this year as always, Jubilee fireworks and Towers always get that bang on. Bring on March 2024! Can't wait to get back on Nemesis, and see what else changes over the winter break.

I haven't done hex in 2 years because it was closed when I went last year and now this year. the three rides I couldn't ride this year were Hex, The Smiler (because it had over an hour's wait for the rap queue. This was because the ride closed every 10 minutes) , and Nemesis of course.

Been an amazing year for our family. After my daughter hit the 1.2m now 1.3 😮 and getting out to Efteling 🎉 - imo Alton has been the worst theme park we have experienced this year, been out done by Thorpe, CWOA and Paultons, our visit this year was so disappointing and the park was so messy, but hopefully they will be better next year

Alton Towers is very similar to the malpractice of Walibi Belgium in the 2010's. But this has had a negative effect on their visitor numbers at the lowest point, only one attraction was open in the entire park and it ended up in the news after which the general manager was fired and the park re- lived again. Alton Towers management is apparently doing a lot to save money in the same way I see. And the pity part is that they are allowed to do this because where else can people go for a theme park? To Thorpe Park? Or Chessington or Legoland. It's all from the same company. You have to go to Flamingoland or Oakwood not to come across a Merlin amusement park. Therefore, I think Alton Towers has been allowed to mismanage the park for savings for a few years. Visitors will always return to Merlin parks in England. That was where we were lucky that not all parks here are in the same house and Walibi had to change. Alton Towers doesn't.

It's kind of depressing this walk around... everything looks ever so tired apart from Gloomy Wood. Completely agree that Festival of Thrills / Mardi Gras should be scrapped in order to direct the budget at the bigger focus events of the calendar. It'll be interesting to see what flats they've purchased although next year will be a tough one on queues (X Sector especially) if they don't pop at least one in next year.

Might not be a popular opinion, but I'd prefer that they delayed project Horizon for an extra year and invested more money in repair and redecoration of the park; maintenance of existing rides to improve reliability; and purchasing new permanent, themed flat rides with high capacity 😀

I complained about the condition of a number of rides including 13 serval years back and was told they were working on improvements. Nothing happened and expected nothing will happen this close season. AT is nowhere near the park it once was in its prime. Such a shame.

Maybe they could try something different for events maybe based on the different seasons for example maybe they could do a simple easter event mainly based on the kids with easter egg hunts around the areas and park and even have large easter eggs in all the areas themed to the rides etc the the summer event with a beach on the lawns and entertainment, then scarefest, fire works and christmas mayne with a panto on the stage and santa visit and a light trail themed in the areas and around the rides

The lighting, lasers and fireworks show was really good (enjoyed watching your full video of this). I agree Shawn that Alton Towers need to get their act together for next year. Too many main rides have been down this year or things kot working on them, even The Curse at Alton Manor has had issues. It's embarrassing and it's not cheap for tickets either. The wait time for rides is horrendous, much too long. Defo needs some serious TLC as you pointed out and they do need to open the Towers up again

I am concerned for 2024. The fact that they have no replacements lined up for the retro squad rides that we know of concerns me. They are popular and with ride availability in the latter stages of 2023 being as poor as they have been they were needed. If ride availability continues to be poor in 2024 without the retro squad the queue times could be a real problem.

That was also nearly 9 years ago now, whilst yes its a stupid mistake and caused so much damage to people they have learnt from that. The smiler literally closes for the most minor things now so it will never happen again

Seeing Nemesis in person again last week I was so surprised at how big that corkscrew is. It's been so long I'm starting to forget what it felt like to have the beast roaring round that area. I'm so glad they're giving it the attention it deserves. The new lighting looks great too, hopefully it remains for scarefest in the future. It sucks people can't just film Alton Manor though, I went in to see the new scenes and someone was filming with their phone. They had to stop the ride and make a jolting announcement that took me out of it. I was impressed with what I saw however, Alton Manor really is a top dark ride!

Public limited companies PLCs , drip feeding investment is the way with PLC ... usually maximum return for minimal investment.. because they have to pay shareholders .in other words ..If we paint this area and pay a company 2k to do it , will it increase footfall and ticket sales next year? Tbh because of Covid i think they've done well to stay operational.

Retrosquad being removed is a great idea if I wanted to be chucked around I would just go to a funfair 🤢 hex is a ride our whole family love so want it back. Mardi Gras festival is pointless been 2 years on the run at the same time and never see anything to represent it really. Park is very tired and in need of a serious pick me up! Would love for ripsaw to come back it went just before my daughter was tall enough to ride it and she was patiently waiting to be able to ride it! The biggest thing that annoys us is the park closing around 6pm in the height of summer….why?? There’s so many people in the park that would probably love to stay longer. RAP was a bit disappointing when we spent all day using it correctly only to overhear people on the very last ride of the day say to the group ‘get the pen and scribble the time out so you can use it again now’ I would like to say why didn’t we think of that but we used to be normal riders and if I had have overheard that then I would have been less than impressed! Smiler constantly being closed during the day is annoying along with the curse which went down on at least 10 occasions when we visited! Also more water rides would be good although having been on popeye in universal Florida no water ride will ever compare now 😂

I feel like the retrosqaud was a good marketing experiment for the park. They probably thought it would be hard to market flat rides like they thought it would be hard to market a wooden coaster but they have now managed both of those exceptionally. There's really no excuses now!

Didn’t get to AT this year, but every vlog you put out from here I think I should actually divert my attention to Thorpe Park and make that my daughters first Merlin park. Will go for Nemesis return but not looking forward to the rest of the park, I’m just worried it won’t live up to childhood memories 😢

It’s sad to see the park looking so run down and shabby, but sadly it seems to be the norm in the UK, particularly the Merlin parks. I really hope they can raise their game in 2024, particularly at Alton Towers as it’s such a lovely site.

Having been to many european parks I would never go to Towers now - as you point out not being looked after and VERY expensive. Rather go to EP, Phantasia, Asterix, Toverland, and many others......AT need to pull their finger out

The 2 visits ive had this year have both been really good. Im only a recent convert to themeparks but ive really enjoyed all the merlin parks and cannot wait till nxt yr. I think x sector and dark forest need 2 flat rides each. 1 thrill 1 family just to make them a more complete area.

We did 4 rides in 10 hours In the park during scarefest due to rides closing and over 1.30h ride times plus we didn't get in any scaremazes .totally wasn't worth the money plus the prices of food in the park is stupid

Alton Towers is going to require some serious investment in the coming years. Ride downtime and general cleanliness of the park have been my main complaints. Long term issues is that Galatica and Rita will be approaching the end of their lifespan and will likely need to be replaced with modern thrill rides.

I just don't understand what is stopping them investing in a new Enterprise which although nothing special it was a great family flat ride and spectacle for people who won't go on it. Same with Ripsaw, it fit perfectly into FV. Each area needs two flat rides to take the pressure off the coasters. Although I dislike the smiler and often only ride it once a visit, with only that and Oblivion in X sector we could see some record breaking queues......
