About 2 years ago, I only found out that Duel was originally the Haunted House without the lasers. There was a couple pov's on yt that were crap (being the 90s lol) . So it was amazing to see the original in the best detail possible, wicked :D thanks for uploading !

This proves just how much they made of a mess of Duel, and how much they improved on the original ride with Curse at Alton Manor this year. It’s incredible this season we’ve gotten the perfect tribute to the OG haunted house! Amazing find.

I wouldn't say the Curse improves on the original, but it's a very good fun ride in its own right and a very creative theme. I really enjoyed it. I think it brings back to Alton Towers the same appeal as the original Haunted House for years more generations to enjoy!

While I do agree that it doesn't improve on the original (chat could, after all!), it certainly fixes some of the many mistakes made by Duel and creates a better overall experience without all those bloody laser targets everywhere!

Great find! A lot of the old footage is usually so dark, you can't see much but this is the best footage i've seen of the original ride.

Thank you so much for sharing. I’ve always wanted to see some bits in this such as under the trommel or behind some of the walls

Thank you so much for sharing this video. Your recent documentary on the Haunted House was also phenomenal and very insightful. Please feel free share any more hidden footage from the archives that you come across - it’s a fantastic way to keep the spirit of this classic attraction alive. - Adam

Is there any chance you could upload the full walkthrough you did, ahead of the revamp, with john wardley for the documentary, would also love to see the full interviews with the former sparks workers and nick varney. Absolutely love the documentary and this old backstage tour. It's such a shame that the haunted house wasn't documented as much / lots of documentation was lost because I find every big to little change fascinating after opening or during construction. I think you did a great job gathering so much remaining documentation and putting it together in a brilliantly made documentary, well done mate :)

Amazing that you chose to share this, so thank you. So that's a model of the house's exterior in the cutlass/spiked room at the start? Is it the one from around the world in 80 days or was it moved to/from garden scene over the years do you know?
@EuroThemeParkArchive Жыл бұрын
Yeah thats it, the promo display from Around The World, it was then moved into the finale scene as a quick replacement for the swamp serpent. Now it sits in the staff building. Or I think I spotted it moved into a scene in The Curse now

20:24 in the future with the Alton manor, it be cool if they maybe came up with a similar effect to that again to utilise that prop/scenery, better, maybe one of Emily‘s hands comes out to you?🤔

I’m really starting g to visualise how small the finale was, the zombie cellar was never huge so they did a great job with it! I also have a question, will we see the documentary trailer again? I know it’s redundant but I really like it
@EuroThemeParkArchive Жыл бұрын
The finale was very big taking up about a quarter of the ride and had the cars travelling faster, also here’s the trailer still online just unlisted: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGSXfY2Ja9t-rpY

@@EuroThemeParkArchive thanks! Just as a note, you are doing a great job on all the documentaries, it’s really nice to see something on KZbin that actually has a lot of passion behind it. Your preservation work is very nostalgic for people that went on the ride, and people like me who never went on it, but love seeing what it was like. Just thanks!

Just a question but in the 1999 update what changed and got replaced?.Thanks

The crash /moving column scene near the beginning turned off, the skeletons corridor mostly removed with scenery painted over and effects removed, a small skeleton with an axe was added overhead for a new photo opportunity, the splitface rock turned into a huge gory skull and the reptile at the end replaced by a dragon head. I think a lot of lighting was made darker too.
@Bobbydave4565 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. do you know what the dragon head was like at the end as I can't find any pictures or recordings of it.

I'm working on a ride myself based on this. It's called "The Wardly Funeral Home". It has the same track as the original but I thought the crash column and the trommel tunnel or the giants lair won't look good In a Funeral Home (no offense) so I added a staircase for the cars to go upstairs into a parlor, bedroom and an attic. And the same thing as the skeleton corridor but for going downstairs. Remember the bridge monster? I had it to be after the scaffolding in the finale (18:24). The rest of the monsters have inhabited this house. Here is the story: On the 31st of October, 1881, Harold Smith held a party to celebrate Halloween. However, Harold Smith was known as the serial killer "Carnivorous the Murderous". On the final strike of midnight, the manor appeared to be struck by an entity of supernatural proportions. Everyone in the party has vanished. That is, except for the ghost of Carnivorous the Murderous. There was an urn that trapped an ancient goddess named Kilona. Police discovered that wind had pushed the urn causing it to break, thus setting her free. And to this day remains unaccounted for. The house has stood abandoned ever since, but they said on a dark night, strange lights had been seen moving about inside and enchanted singing had been heard luring guests in. But they never came out. If someone challenged you, would you dare explore that haunted house?
