Glad you enjoyed the drive! I've had a few people tell me they grew up there and moved, so it's nice seeing what it currently looks like

I lived at 2719 7th Avenue, right up from Mercy Hospital. Moved to Cincinnati in 1982, sure do miss Altoona.

I was recently back in Altoona in July. It had been 11 years since my last visit to my old home town. (Altoona High grad of '78.) My brother and I used to ride our bikes up to the Horseshoe Curve. This video was nice as I didn't have time to drive up there. State College was my final destination this trip. (Arts Fest) I did mange to pick up some tasty morsels at Dutch Hill Chocolates and do a bit of sightseeing around town.

I'm sure it looks a lot different in 11 years. When we were there, I showed my kids my old elementary school (Ebner) and Jr high (Roosevelt, which is no longer there)
@TheMinster1960 Жыл бұрын
Funny you mention Ebner. I went to its predecessor, Edison Elementary. @@ontheroadagain1

It’s been 40 tears since I was there at PSU Altoona Campus. It is remarkably different today.

Born and raised in Altoona PA! Lived there until 2010 when I moved to the United Kingdom. Haven't been home since 2015. This is bringing back a lot of memories. Ten seconds in and I was like I know where that is the Keith football field should be coming up on the right and there it appeared. I'm hoping you make it to the other side of the tracks as that was my old stomping ground 2nd Ave and 20th street. Mom passed in 2021 but dad is still in the old house with the rest of the family

I grew up in Altoona as well, left in 2002. We've been back to visit a few times. Not a lot lot seems to have changed (except the new shopping center with Boscov's, they tore down both junior high schools and turned Mercy into senior housing). I grew up near the Jaffa , so it was fun going back. Some neighborhoods look terrible now!

I was just there two weeks ago. There was much I liked about it. Stayed a few days, had some great meals. Some beautiful architecture like the gorgeous cathedral downtown.

Totally agree! Downtown has a lot of beautiful architecture! I grew up here and moved when I was a teenager. We go back once in awhile.

Do you go to the horse shoe curve and museum? I went to the mall around Allentown a few years ago and liked it. I had gone to Horse shoe curve museum and then the mall. I heard that the nice Sears that they used to have is gone.
@ontheroadagain1 Жыл бұрын
This day we did, but we didn't walk to the top(it was hot and the incline was still down). But I lived in Altoona as a teenager, so I'm very familiar with all of it and used to go-to the horseshoe curve often!
