Altoona pizza doesn’t use Kraft singles. True American cheese slices are made from colby cheese combined with emulsifying salts. This is what’s used on Altoona pizza, which is otherwise not far off from what Americans consider a “Sicilian-Style” Pizza with a different cheese layer. Finally you have to put some char on top of the cheese layer and actually make sure the other toppings get cooked well.

People bash Chicago pizza like crazy. Some even say that tavern style pizza isn't pizza, not just deep dish. Both use the SAME INGREDIENTS THAT YOU CAN FIND IN NY PIZZA, and it's still delicious. Altoona style pizza is a crime against humanity.

tavern style is awesome. deep dish isn’t the best but it’s unique at least. i prefer tavern to NY style

Wiz is the only acceptable choice for a cheese steak. I used to be a provolone guy but i had one with wiz and it changed my life.

"So can we!" is the attitude of PA in a nutshell. Despite living there for decades, I've never heard of this... whatever it is. Calling it pizza feels disrespectful. But honestly this isn't surprising because the best way I can describe Altoona is "What if you wanted to live inside a dead body?" Why would you want to do that? Who knows, but welcome to Altoona.
