Thanks for the comparison, Timothy! I am enjoying the Escalante 3's but I skipped the Rivera 2. I did enjoy the Rivera 1, but just can't buy them all.

I had to go up a half size in the Rivera as well. I had to do the same in the Rivera 1. I do love them for the very little pavement running I do.

Thank you for this comparison. I still have the Torin 4.5 and the Rivera 1, I prefer the Torin to the Rivera because I find that the sole of the Rivera has no consistency or stability. Do the Escalante 3 feel the same? I also wonder if the Torin 5 / 6 are more dynamic than the 4.5 and the Escalante 3. Thanks.

I usually wear size 44 EU (28cm insole), ordered my first Altra, the Rivera 2 that size, but my big toe was bumping in front of the shoe. So I returned them, and I thing I should order a whole size up 45 EU (29 cm).

Yeah, I think most people size up for the Rivera. I'm quite happy with half a size up though. My Riveras are 44.5 EU

Hi did you measure the insole, is it 28cm for a 44? can I trust the size chart of the Altra site? I want to buy an Altra and saw some people complaining about size so I asked a guy to measure the insole for a 43Eu (8,5UK) and the photo shows 28,5cm for a Torin 6. In the size chart it should be 27,5cm. I got completely confused as Altra shoes are not sold here where I live, I am afraid to buy a completely wrong size. Thanks

@3:24min regarding the tongues: even though the tongue of the Escalante 2.5 was a lil too thin for me, the one on the Riveras is too thick. just received both versions of the Riveras (not sure wheter I keep any of them at all). but if the tongue on the Escalante 3.0 is somilar or even thicker, you helped a lot with this video to very likely stay with the 2.5 and just replace my current pair with a new one. something else: did you ever wore one of the mentioned shoes without socks? In my opinion the Escalante 2.5 is the most comfortable shoe to wear barefoot! btw: in real live both Riveras look and feel cheaper than the Escalantes (I know of course they are)!

Definitely the Rivera. The Escalante soaks up too much water making it very uncomfortable.

@@TDMiller Oh yes i watched it yesterday. Thank you! I have the escalante 1 and have taken the insole out before. Runs a little hot. Thats why i wanted to see what the new ones look like. If its more breathable. It looks like it is.

I went up a half for the rivera and did a 12 hour race in them where I covered 84km. No blisters. Both of these shoes look nice but I don't think I need anything between my racers and torins and they both have a lot of life in them so no new shoes for me soon unfortunately 😔

Are altra running shoes in specific the escalante a good option for casual wear like walking and working in them? (I am a nurse)

I really love wearing them as casual shoes. It depends how much cushioning your feet "need" while standing on them all day. Most people I've heard from prefer something more cushioned, as they feel their feet getting fatigued from more minimal shoes like the Escalante. So you might want to look at the Rivera or Torin instead.

I've been wanting to pick up the Rivera 2. Do you think it runs true-to-size? Also, does the Lone Peak All Weather run true to size?

My "regular" Altra size is 10US. I have both the Rivera 2 and the Lone Peak all wthr in size 10.5. In my opinion, the LP all weather is true to size leaning towards the bigger side due to the wider than mainstream fit, whereas the Rivera feels smaller due to the slimmer fit. I'd buy the all weather half a size smaller next time, and I'm happy I sized up for the Rivera 2. Hope this helps!

@@TDMiller Thank you. That's great. I did watch your video on the LP all weather. They seem a bit heavy. Did you find them worth it in snowy/wet weather? Or best to just go with LP and be ok with wet socks?

@@travistodd3216 I think it's a personal preference. I only wear them when it's a really bad weather day. The regular LP (+ good socks) is actually fine in snow and rain, but if you hate cold and wet feet, the all weather is the best, especially if you don't have the option to change shoes/socks after the run. Nine out of ten times I'd go for the regular.

I have the Rivera 2 and there still in great shape is it worth getting the escalante 3?

I definitely prefer the Escalante over the Rivera. It's always worth having a second pair to alternate between. Maybe Escalante for short distances and the Rivera for longer. I personally find the Rivera too basic, and prefer pairing the Escalante with the Torin as they have a bigger difference in cushion. Rivera 3 is expected in 2-3 months, in case you're interested in them?

Hey, I was about to order the escalante but there's never in my size at a good deal, the rivera2 is, could you tell me if the rivera 2 is as short as the lone peak 5? (which gave me purple toenails) I wear 44 in brooks, asics, puma but I think altra's need 44.5.

I would advise going at least half a size bigger for the Rivera compared to the Lone Peak.
