Just got my Blue Orange Altra Mont Blanc and while the shoe is more comfortable for me more than the Olympus 4 and much lighter - I think my Nike Pegasus Gor tex Trail 3 wins for comfort for me- the Mont Blanc color way is not my thing either- I wish someone would make a sneaker jean colored with deep Ferrari red accents the orange isnt my thing on the laces either- Run Moore is an awesome store tho and the owner is very personable- I will keep coming back!

Having owned 5 pair of Altra in under two years, I would love to see a new Altra shoe last longer than 100 miles. I can't go back to Altra until someone can attest to a better build quality.. Can you do a follow up video in a few months with retail reviews on what they think of the shoe? A broad spectrum of feedback so we can make our best educated decision? That would be awesome. Not every shoe is going to be a home run or work for everyone and getting as much feedback as possible is something I think consumers probably really need considering how much trail shoes are costing in recent years. Thanks for the review!!!

@@mathewnavarro2612 I like the MB for situations where the trail is wet or muddy and I need the vibram for traction or longer runs where I need the extra stack height/cushion for comfort. I still enjoy my LP4.5/6 (and soon LP8) for shorter technical terrain and everyday trail runs.

Great review! Comparing the Mont Blanc to the Olympus, I understand the Olympus has Original footbed, EGO midsole, 33mm cushion; while the Mont Blanc has Standard footbed, EGO MAX midsole, 30mm cushion. I couldn't find anything regarding stability. I have a problem in my left arch with tendonitis and great toe sesmoiditis; my left arch has fallen with respect to my right. I LOVE the Paradigm 6, love love. Which trail shoe would be comparable and good for me? Thank you Steve!

I love wearing Altra all day, and just wish the Mont Blanc wasn't so loud. It's one of the few you can't really wear casually unless you really like broadcasting ALTRA. I wear the Lone Peaks, but the outsole is over the top, this would be preferable.

The Mont Blanc is definitely a louder shoe than the Lone Peak.

Hey Steve, one thing I think that you failed to mention is the rocker in the sole. This is a new thing for ULTRA from my experience, I'm used to their shoes being pretty flat. Maybe this is a feature of the speed category you are mentioning. Also, this coral color is seriously glow in the dark bright.
@RunMoore2 жыл бұрын
While the Mont Blanc isn't quite as flat as some other Altra shoes, it does not have a rocker built in according to the company specs.

Thanks for the review and the coupon code. I currently use the latest Olympus 4, I used them for CCC and Mountain lakes 100 last year. If I get a tax refund this year I'll grab a pair of these for WS100 (if I get in) and UTMB TDS. I assume the fit is similar to the Olympus 4. The Oly 4 always felt just a tad bit "dead" to me compared to the prior version which was comfy but sloppy.

Hopefully you will be able to give the Mont Blancs a try. They are definitely a faster alternative to the Olympus! Always fun to try something new.

Does the stretchiness of the laces/upper affect your ability to be nimble in the shoe? For example, does your foot slide over top of the midsole as you’re making a sharp turn?…Kind of like the escalante?

How does the edge of the tongue feel compared to the Torin 5? I have to manage my sock choices with the Torin to make sure that tongue isn't hitting bare skin.

How does the Mont Blanc fit compared to the Torin 5?
@RunMoore2 жыл бұрын
While the Torin 5 runs small (most people size up a half size from their typical size), the Mont Blanc runs more true to size, with a small group of people sizing down a half size due to the heel cup.
@JohnJulitz2 жыл бұрын
Would you say it's true to size in terms of length? Sometimes Altra shoes have felt off sizing wise.

Great video! Just another question about the fit compared to some of Altras other trail shoes (I know you compared it to some of their road shoes, but I have worn those). The new timp fit feels SUPER tight to me. The Lone Peak (not the wide version) might be a touch too wide but it doesn't bother me. Where would you put the Mont Blanc on that spectrum? Thank you!
@RunMoore2 жыл бұрын
This is pretty much right in between those two in terms of width. It's not as narrow as the Timp but not quite as wide as the Lone Peak.
@DoseofDirt2 жыл бұрын
@@RunMoore Thanks for the reply. I'm sorely tempted since it has that Vibram outsole. I feel like that's what my Lone Peaks have been missing!

How does the width compare to the LP5 and Olympus? I found the LP to be a little too loose and the Olympus to be just right. Not as familiar with the Altra road shoe comparisons. Thanks!

Curious as to why the Altra line is so "heavy" by comparison. Even this shoe is about 20% heavier than the Hoka Zinal @ 8.5 ounces which is $160 or the Torrent 2 @ 9.1 ounces, which is $130? Zinal stack height is comparable at 32/27 while Torrent is lesser at 23/18. Thoughts? Many thanks!
@slowfranklin30942 жыл бұрын
Zinal is more like 22/18 mm, lightweight, low-profile, so this is comparing apples/oranges. Mont Blanc is comparable to the Speedgoat.
@RunMoore2 жыл бұрын
Thank s for checking out the channel. As for the weights, the Women's Mont Blanc is lighter than the Hokas. Additionally, the Torrent and Zinal aren't really in the same family as the Mont Blanc, the Mont Blanc is definitely closer in line with the Mafate Speed 3 in the Hoka lineup.
@rexgorman95612 жыл бұрын
This is closer in stack height to the speedgoat ((32/28) and actually weighs less. The Zinal is actually 22/18, and the torrent is 23/18. They're more akin to the Lone Peak and Superior.

My guess? The minimal shoes didn’t sell. They have the superior for trail, Escalante racer for roads (which may be not long for this world? Any word on the future of the Racer?), and the Solstice didn’t make it as a running shoe so they turned it into a cross-trainer. If they sold, shoes like the Kayenta would still be in the lineup. Also, why have soooo many minimal shoes if a) they don’t sell and b) one minimalish shoe per category is all the market will support?
