Yeah, fair review. Had the MB and wanted to love it, but that heel slippage, and the short, less-than-padded tongue, were deal-breakers. Sent the Mont Blancs back. Strange fit for me, too considering I have the Timp 4, LP 6, and the Olympus 4. The new Timp4 is my favorite right now, bit of a current Goldilocks combo between the other two models and very comfortable. Just wish they'd put Litebase or Vibram on every ALTRA at this point.

Wore these shoes for a 100k race yesterday. They were a little loose around the ankle but not enough to really concern me. The race was fairly flat with no technical terrain. Ended up taking home the W.

First time answering a QOD but I think its a good one. #1 tip for landing a job is to 100% transparently be yourself. Your "dream" job will not have you conform to a different set of standards or values. If the job fits you, you'll fit the job and you will be more satisfied and fulfilled as a result!

Heel slip was easily fixed for me by removing the insole. Plenty of cushion in the midsole as is. Without the insole, my feet sit just a few millimeters deeper in the shoe, allowing the heel padding on either side of the Achilles to work (presumably) as intended. Also added some adhesive cushion to the tongue (women’s heel cushion from Target) to prevent the laces from digging in, and it’s now basically a perfect trail racer for me.

I just got these shoes in. Plan on using them for a trail 50-miler that is pretty flat and fast. There are some hills but they're mostly rolling. I'm not 100% sure I'm gonna use these yet - higher stack than I'm uses to using. The superior 5 has an upper and a lock down that is much more comfortable. Might start with the superiors and possibly switch to the mont blanc if I need more cush!

Takes a good few weeks to settle in in the MB. Personally love it. Did a few alterations to pad / beef up the tongue which helped with overall lockdown. 150+ miles so far. Definitely a nice pop to the midsole …. Give it time. Shout out to Daniel South !

James has great reviews on his channel of the Mont Blanc. I bought a pair after watching his videos and I'm happy to report that the shoe works very well for me. The heel was a little loose but I redid the lacing and they fit fine. Wouldn't say the most comfortable but I don't slip in them anymore!

Adapt your CV (resume) to fit the job you're applying for. Go through the job advert carefully and pick out the key responsibilities, and then rework your experience to demonstrate how you perform at those responsibilities (and be creative if you dont have direct experience, for example, training for a marathon demonstrates discipline. Put it in there if your work experience is a bit short for now). Bonus tip, use the same jargon as the job advert to describe your previous experience, this should help you get your application through AI platforms and infront of a recruiter.

Hi Seth. I got the Mont Blanc's almost two months ago and I thought I had the same issue with the heel lock. I tried to compensate by tying the laces even harder but that caused a lot of pain since the tongue is quite thin. So in the next runs I tried letting the laces loose so I stopped having any issues. The heel did feel like it could slip, but it never did. I've only used it for long (slow) runs and an 80 mile race and it was great. I planned to switch shoes at the drop bag, but I didn't have to since they were so comfortable. I'll have to try it on short faster runs to be able to compare them with the timps.

QD: Job fulfilment and joy is more important then salary or ego boosting. Having a job you enjoy going to also sets you up for succes later in your career by doing the necessary hassle without feeling like a grind. Tip 2: also remember to not let your expectations be clouded by social media lies. Reaching that top notch positions requires years of dedication and hard work. You didn't start running sub-3 marathons overnight did you?

I love them. I was aware of heel slippage, lace lock solved the problem. Also I think sizing is awkward due to the mesh being more stretchy and forgiving so I am 1/2 size down.

Did you have any problems with the tounge of the shoes slipping down while running? And did the lace lock 100% solve the problem?
@hawkf9199
@hawkf9199 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, lace lock method worked, I eventually changed the laces as well which distributed pressure better. But since this shoe I have moved on to Nnormal shoes(both models )which I have been enjoying.

I have a large foot... here in Europe, it's difficult to find my number! (48.5) I had to buy them during the week race, use them on a couple of tapering sessions (less than 20k/13miles in total) and run in a trail race of 120km (75miles) with more than 5500m (more than 18000 ft) of elevation gain. My impressions? I can confirm your opinion about the heel stability and I had some problems with foot slippage in the shoe... ONLY FOR THE FIRST 30k (about 20miles) After that time, it seems that the shoes took the shape of my feet... It was like running with a pair of socks! PS: I am a heavy runner (about 85 kg - 190 lbs) and I have a slooooooooower pace than yours! ;)

Hi seth, I got my altra MT blanc and suffered major heel slippage. To the point it wasn't wearable. My heel just sat too high. I found if you took the inner sole out you got alot better lock down and fit. I use mine on the road and found that it should have been a road tempo shoe, then I found a very thin hoka sock linner that worked a treat as well. Hope this helps.

Were these your normal size Seth? I had to size down half size from my usual US10 (eg Torin 5) to get a much better lockdown. Also there are many type of trail races, and I believe these were made for 100miler distance vs other lighter shoes for much shorter distance (eg Salomon Pulsar for the Sierre Zinal…), so I find the score for weight a bit unfair TBH…

The score was a bit lower than I was expecting(I expected around 7), but I’m not surprised. They seem to be a great concept but have some improvements to make. Maybe the BOA laces will make them better? I have been a die hard Altra fan since about 2014, but not real happy with most of the current line up. I will say the Lone Peak 6 is about the best feeling shoe I’ve ever tried on, I just wish it had another 7-10 mm stack height with the same density EGO foam, it’s just not enough cushion for me for longer distance. I really wanted to love the Timp 4, and it has the stack height, but the EGO max foam just felt too stiff to me 😩. I ended up finding a clearance pair of HOKA Speed Goat 4’s, and they have been good so far. Have you done a review on the Inov-8 Parkclaw 280? I really want to see a good review on it because none of my local shops carry Inov-8.

Seth, I started running 6 or 7 months ago. This spring I want to hit some easy trails in the Denver area that aren't boring. I live near 104th and E-470 (N.W. of DIA) and the closest trail to me is called Second Creek and it's boring. Which trails would you recommend for a beginner trail runner?

I do not know Denver, but keep asking around (running stores, local clubs) and find a group that you can meet a few times a week to stay motivated. If a few times a week is not possible, then try for a saturday or sunday group. enjoy!

Need to wear one size smaller to prevent heel slippage. What I wear Torin 4.5 - Size 10.5 Escalante Racer - Size 10 Tried size 10 Mont Blanc and it has too much heel slippage. Size 9 is perfect

Definitely had a lot of heel slip as well. As an altra fan I really wanted these to work but I couldn't get over the heel and when I tried to make tighten then further the laces were giving quite a bit of pain. Had to return them unfortunately.

Not really a problem with heel slippage, but I did have a problem with the shoes laces not getting a good lockdown. Changed them to flat laces night and day difference. But the other problem is that the shoe is way to flexible the upper I mean going down technical terrain my foot just moves side to side almost rolling my ankles. If it had more rigidity to the upper than I feel like this shoe would be amazing but for 180 that’s just a joke. Glad I got such a discount, 150 is what I payed. Cant believe altra came out with a shoe this unfinished felt like this shoe was rushed.

Took a few runs to settle in to this shoe for me. Laces were changed out after first run. Heel counter is a head scratcher for sure. Even though my heel slips around a little when I lace them up I am having no issues on my runs and no blisters to speak of. My feet are very happy during and after my long runs. Not the greatest shoe for technical stuff but the comfort is there for me. If Altra listens to its customers and fixes the heel counter this shoe should be fantastic.

QD: sometimes landing your dream job means you have to take some other jobs first that might not be at the top of your list. Also, understand that what you think is your dream job now might not be your dream job 5-10 years down the road. Things change and evolve, and that's totally natural. Don't discount an opportunity that will start you on your path even if its not your first choice. Be willing to make sacrifices, be willing to be flexible, and be willing to have faith in what you value no matter the obstacles.

QD: Speaking from the perspective of going to graduate school, You should know what you want to do before you graduate. Do you want to go into the workforce? More School? and if you choose more school, why? Do you have a plan for that advanced degree? If you want to have a job I daresay you might enjoy, are you comfortable asking employers hard questions, such as "Where do you see someone with my current skillset in three to five years." I want to be a professor of Mathematics, so before I go off to Graduate school, I am asking the schools I want to work for, "What do I have to do to ensure that I can get a position here?" Knowing what you want to do, knowing what you need to do reach whatever your desired credentials for success are, are important. Start with that.
