I’m an ASICS guy. Most of my shoes are 10-12mm drops. Just bought these as I’ve been having knee issues. It was recommended that I try zero drop shoes. So here I am. Only did a short 3 mile recovery run today at a slow pace. Shoes felt great.

It’s worth mentioning that Altra’s point of difference is really shape, rather than width. It avoids the common issue where companies put the point of the shoe near the centre. If you’ve ever found a shoe squeezes your big toe over, you may enjoy Altra. I think of my feet as being not super wide but very footshaped! Altra fit me well.

I absolutely love Altra. I started with the Vanish Carbon, and I just got the Vanish Tempo. The zero drop feel while running puts my legs at ease and is great for my plantar fasciaitis. I could run miles in Altra shoes without feeling the stress. I definitely am going to get more Altra shoes in the future.

I also have both Vanish models, absolutely love them. Looking to replace the Tempos with some new Tempos, hope a new colour is available soon. Also bought Rivera 3, bit still dont really enjoy that one. And then there is the Escalante Racer. More minimalist, but somehow more comfortable than Rivera on long run (>20k)

The only pair of Altra shoes I have so far is Torin 5 and I love them! I mainly used them to walk around when my legs are tired because they are so soft and my feet can relax into foot shape, but I have done easy 5k and boxing sparring in them. Will definitely check out more Altra shoes in the near future.

Yes, I am a fan of Altras! The last one I purchased was the Torin 5, which I still run in on occasion today. The 7 appears to be quite an improvement over the 5, based on your review here today. You're so right about the need to go up a half size. Unfortunately, half sizes aren't available for my big feet. So, I had to go up from a 14 to a 15, which is slightly too big but still works. Thanks for this! Zero drop works for me. I may wind up giving this one a shot.

I've got a number of Altra shoes - Vanish Carbon, Vanish Tempo, Escalante 2, Torin 4.5 and Paradigm 5. I think they are definitely for a niche market. I enjoy the open toe box and they are generally well made. I was able to get all my Altra shoes on a big discount so my expectations weren't as high as if I'd paid full price. Even saying that, the EVA midsole is, well, what you would expect from an EVA midsole. I recall bitterly my first run in the Paradigm 5. It was a couple years ago in pouring rain. I was running in morning darkness on the footpath and decided I wanted to get on the road as there was no traffic so ran down a wet painted driveway. Big mistake! Before I knew what was happening, I was flying off my feet, hitting my elbow and sliding into the curb. It was a sight. First time I'd ever fallen running since I was a kid! Edd, I remember you mentioning on your channel at around that time that you had fallen using a shoe (sorry can't remember which one) and I thought to myself, who on earth falls running! Haa! I had to laugh at myself as I trudged back home that morning. It's very rare but it can happen. Their high end race shoes, that have the super critical foam in them were very good but certainly not top tier. They are a good brand. Edd, I'm glad you enjoyed the Torin 7. It seems a good shoe for those who like a low to zero drop.

Thanks for insightful review. I was low or zero drop for most of my running life and I’ve Marathon PRd in Torins. However, after a couple of years I got plantar fasciitis.
