I think you should re-titled the video adding something like "from what we know now" because when you usually do these your draw a lot back from the past and the actions to what lead them here and where they could go. I don't know, I would also hate to have never watched the show and come to this video without reading the comments where spoilers always tend to be to see that it is the only warning I could have got from getting spoiled. Thanks for making all the awesome reviews too!

Could you make a theory video about the cutthroat who tried to kill Bran? Because I feel like people have forgotten about it while it's still a mystery. In the show they said it was Littlefinger but how could he have done that?
@themaninthechair43385 жыл бұрын
There's still one thing that someone pointed out to me that I now always see. When Catlyn finds out Bran has been climbing again, and he lies to her and says he hasn't, she says 'You always look at your feet when you lie'. And in the crypts under Winterfell, when Robert gets teary-eyed over Lyanna, Ned looks at his feet (like Bran does) and says 'The Targaryens are gone'. It's something small, but maybe it's just because Ned knows the truth about Jon.

Firefist and Esac... nothing in what Adam Dixon said shows that he didn't know Ned was hiding the truth about Jon. He was only pointing out the common characteristic that both Ned and Bran look at their feet when they tell a LIE. When Adam said "maybe it's because Ned knows the truth about Jon" - he was giving his plausible reasoning for why Ned looked at his feet when he said to Robert in the Winterfell crypts "the Targaryens are gone"(an obvious lie). But judging by your responses it seems that it went right over your heads!

The irony of Tyiron's words were that Jon *did* wear it like armor, while Tyrion wielded his identity like a sword. Jon was obviously bothered by his status as a bastard, but he never let that view weigh him down. Any time someone talked down to him for being a bastard, he brushed it aside and stayed true to his motives. Tyrion would actively lash out and wave the idea of being a dwarf/the imp in people's faces an excuse for his actions. That's why it didn't work out for him.

I don't know if they were all named in this episode, but this might be a good time to talk about the ironic names and deaths of the direwolves and their relationship with their owners: Shaggydog: Rickon's whole story was a "shaggy dog story" of no importance or satisfying resolution. Summer: dies, leading to a dangerous winter, and removing Bran's connection to life and energy. Nymeria: Arya goes to a foreign land to find herself, but unlike the wolf or the woman, fails in this new land, and takes back what she learned. Lady: Sansa is robbed of her innocence and dreams of life as a lady. Grey Wind: a sharp, cutting, impressive force, but in the end of minimal consequence. Ghost: Jon, the dead man walking, still lives, only in the shadow (hidden away) of a previous generation. Like Ghost, the Targs have rare shining hair.

Although Alt Shift X don't mention this, Tim Van Patten, the director of this episode (and of the subsequent episode, The Kingsroad, the only episodes of the show he even helmed) did a tremendous job of establishing the look, tone and "voice" of GoT. Kudos to him!
@kevinw7125 жыл бұрын
It is really interesting to think about the number of times this has happened over the course of TV and movie history, certain writers and filmmakers who ratio-wise didn't have a lot to do with a property by the time it was all over, but because of where they were at the time, they'd have made some indelible decisions. Chris Columbus casting like 80% of the whole Harry Potter universe while only directing 2 of the movies (I remember him saying in some BTS material that initially he had the full intent and hope of directing the entire thing, but it quickly became quite obvious that would probably kill him lol)
@educatedcockroach5 жыл бұрын
Even more impressive, he was brought in originally to do reshoots on the pilot that HBO hated. So he had to deal with a mutant script that was being quickly rewritten, recasting several key roles (Dany being the biggest one), and having to shoot around the stuff that the showrunners wanted to keep. Dude did a good enough job to get a full episode that was solely his own, and "The Kingsroad" is one of the better ones of that first season. Van Patten also directed a lot of the Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, two other great HBO shows.

I'm convinced Jon Snow, not Dany is Azor Ahai after seeing the sword Dawn covered in blood at his birth and the camera focus on it. (Sword made from a fallen star, Azor Ahai prophesied to be born under a bleeding star and all that) Though maybe I've just fallen just a red herring
@andrew55005 жыл бұрын
I was gonna say Azor Ahai needs to be born "amidst salt and smoke" and Jon was not, but now that I think about it... the salt could represent Lyanna's tears, and the smoke could represent Ned's lies about him

I still hope he pushes lightbringer (his bastard sword) through his wifes (danys) heart to ignite it like the original azor ahai did. Dany is too op and doesn't reaaally deserve to live imo she should die for the greater cause
@cbrownjc76335 жыл бұрын
Dany is Azor Ahai and Jon is The Prince That Was Promised. Basically, *both* of them *together* are the prophesied "chosen one." And please miss me with that "Dany is too OP" sh*t. Jon came back from the freakin' dead and has plot armor galore and no one calls him OP. If they killed Dany off just to further another character's arc - especially Jon's - then that is the laziest storytelling ever, and frankly goes against what Dany's whole character arc in the books is all about. (Which is frankly why I know the whole Jon thrusting his sword into Dany to set it on fire thing isn't going to happen anyway). Dany's arc isn't about just wanting to be Queen, it's about finding a place she feels safe and "home." Her home is clearly going to be with Jon. And since GRRM has clearly set up them both not only jointly being the hero, but as yin and yang to each other, they will either both live or both die by the end. And if they both die it won't be because one thrusted a sword into the other.
@Augustei5 жыл бұрын
I always assumed the Prince that was promised and Azor Ahai were both the same prophecy referring to the same person ever since GRRM started using the terms interchanably in interview, I remember he was talking about Melisandre and Stannis and was talking about the details of the AA prophecy (bleeding star, salt and smoke etc) and said she (Mel) thinks Stannis is The Prince that was promised, if your theory is true however I would argue that Dany would be the Prince that was Promised and Jon Azor Ahai in that case since i'm almost 100% certain everything in the prophecy is metaphor and better describes Jon in that case. I do think they will both end up dead however, GRRM said it'd be a bittersweet ending so i'm going to predict they both die saving the world and leave behind an infant to rule over westeros and continue the Targaryen line. As to Jon reigniting lightbringer by stabbing Dany, Imo Lightbringer is also a metaphor for something rather than an actual sword, heck maybe the killing the one you love to ignite it is also a metaphor (lol i'm obviously sold on this whole metaphor thing)
@cbrownjc76335 жыл бұрын
@@Augustei Lightbringer is 100% a metaphor, so I think you are on the right track there. There is one theory I've seen that guesses that Lightbringer is actually the dragons (maybe even specifically Drogon), since a blood sacrifice was made to birth them. And Dany did love two of the people that were sacrificed to birth the dragons (her child and Drogo). Maybe that's why Viserion was killed, because the third person sacrificed wasn't someone she loved, but someone she hated/was taking revenge on (the witch). I'm not going to predict myself if Jon and Dany live or die. I fully admit I want them to live, but I'm prepared for them both to die. I won't like it, but I'll accept it. But the way GRRM has paralleled them and their stories from the start, along with the yin and yang iconography he's been giving the both of them all this time (even their coloring - particularly their hair - is yin and yang), I feel very confident that, whatever happens, It'll happen to *both* of them. It won't be an either/or thing, whether it's being the "chosen one", living or dying. It'll be both of them together, whatever it is.

I'm glad you bring up the long term and short term ramifications of ned and tywins rule, I've always loved that parallel Tywins Machiavellian rule is great short term, fear works, he's powerful..but as soon as you croak and you don't have a solid replacement, it all crumbles and no one gives a fuck about your house or has a vendetta Ned, short term fumbles in politics, gets him killed. But even after his death the loyalty of his followers is still strong, they gladly give themselves over to his kids to put them back in power, at great risk and even when they're in a weak position Plus, ironically ned pulled one of the sneakiest and slickest political maneuvers successfully in the whole show, by hiding away the heir to the throne Benjen definitely knew, he and lyanna were close and most likely why he joined the watch, regret for his dad and brother getting killed, and he kept it secret she left willingly. But by telling Jon he doesn't know what he's giving up.. definitely more than he lets on

Jon Snow's abs HAVE had quite a troubled and complex character arc, haven't they? There's definitely some foreshadowing there that needs to be further investigated, that could end up having a much more profound Impact on both the Night King's so-called, "end game," and the overall, "bittersweet," outcome of the entire story. Not to mention who will finally end up winning the Iron Throne. 👍🤔

Maybe the "bittersweet" ending will be everyone lives happily ever after, but Jon will lose his beloved abs and look like Bobby B. Powdered Sugarrrr!

Great analysis of this episode so crucial to the entire series! I'd love to see more older episodes analysed, but then again I like your theory & character-background videos A LOT, so maybe best use time for any topics left open there first :D (I really liked the Patchface & Sphinx vids... helped me cope with the fact that so much of the cool stuff hidden in the books sadly, yet understandably got dropped in the series. Great job digging it up again!)
@msgreymatter40615 жыл бұрын
On the other hand... Theory videos can still be watched, when the series is through and whenever the next book is out - episode reviews have their golden hour just now while we all (okay, well, at least some of us) are re-watching. AND: I believe we haven't seen a proper analysis of Daenerys' development so far? Any plans?

Would love to see a series going over the past seasons. Making an episode for each one but if you did one for like 1-5 episodes at a time taking all the important bits and how they impact in the whole story would be a fantastic series

I very much love the new strain of humor in in normal videos. You've shown your humor earlier, but usually not in the pure analytical content. Keep it up, a chuckle here and there is always good :) Loved it.

I think you missed the point with Tyrion’s quote about “wearing it like armor” he is talking about being a dwarf and accepting it and embracing it. That did work for him the whole show because he knew his strengths and his weaknesses and that proved him to be a wise character, not ever over compensating for what he lacked.

That's sad if criticism from the media caused a lack of nudity in later seasons. The media should never influence how a story is told or the vision of the adapters.

I too want to see more Titties this next season
@msgreymatter40615 жыл бұрын
I'm fine with lack of nudity, but agree - reception should not have an influence. However... this makes one wonder, how far away from the series the original story will go in the books, certainly no media-influence there.
@jeffsmith62405 жыл бұрын
@Nick Starkey haha I am married and just curious. I don't enjoy censorship or shaming by the mostly biased media on both sides (morales for the church and SJW crap on the left). I don't care if there is or isn't just disappointed if that comment in the video was true.

The line through the circle is a Theta. George uses it in some Thousand Worlds stories. It's probably a nod to that although that's giving D&D more credit than they deserve.

1:34 and none are the red wedding, the wall coming down, Cerci nuking the pope etc lol. But Shireen and Hodor¿
@szbszig5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that the holy shit moments were meant as 'holy shit moments that have not happened in the books yet'. No one in their sane mind would leave the Red Wedding from such a list, and the deaths of Ned or Jon, or pretty much the whole last episode of season four / end of book three could easily qualify. On the other hand, the burning of Shireen seems probable in the books too, although in partly different circumstances, as it could be the tool for Jon's resurrection, and Martin has already reluctantly confirmed in interviews that the origin of Hodor's name was his idea.

It's very telling that the two 'shocks' the creators were thinking of were Shireen and Hodor. Like, these were relatively minor and dramatized for the show. How about the Red Wedding? How about R+L? God.

I'd argue with what you said at the 12 minute mark about Tyrion. His quote is about being who you are... but who he is doesn't get him in trouble, his reputation does, and his reputation is built more off of his father/ family, and the general publics suspicion/hatred of dwarves than his actual character. It doesn't matter what he does; his good deeds are credited to others (ie: Blackwater), and his bad deeds just reinforce the reputation already bestowed on him as a dwarf.
