I love that you called out the man-rape not getting any outrage. So many people like to pick and choose what fits into their narrative. Men experience sexual assault too, and it deserves just as much outrage.

sexual abuse against men/boys should be treated as serious as against women. remember Chester Bennington's depression (or at least part of it) started after he got sexually abused when he was a child.
@Emily-zr7of
@Emily-zr7of 7 жыл бұрын
Kelly Well both are Often treated as not that serious. Both men and women because it is a crime that is hard to prove, etc. Also men are shamed because they should be stronger than that and women are shamed because they should've known better. This false presumption that female rape is taken that more seriously is dammaging. Both aren't and both have just as much chance to not be charged or even go to thé police for it.

My theory is that Benjen is unhappy being undead, and chooses not to live anymore. I really want his backstory. Why is he the way he is when all other undeads (except Beric and Jon) are basically mindless automatons?
@bennettvanpelt1277
@bennettvanpelt1277 7 жыл бұрын
I can understand that he may want to give him a headstart and all but the wights don't reach benjen until jon is a good distance away, considering he could fit a cripple and a girl on his horse and still get away, riding with jon wouldn't slow them down enough to get caught by the wights. Also, I would agree that Benjen is unhappy being undead but at the same time he could have made it back to the wall to at least give jon a proper farewell and maybe help prepare him for the walkers. Logically I can see why having benjen sacrifice himself would make sense as a showrunner, its just one of those situations that he couldve easily survived.
@FurnitureFan
@FurnitureFan 7 жыл бұрын
Br. Bill Yes, why is Benjen's mind not affected? Maybe it's the show writers merging his character with Lady Stoneheart? I really hope this will be covered in the next book.

Thinking that they were quite far up north, air must have been like -30(-)-40 Celsius. So the ice is really cold as is the lake. It first needs the energy to get the ice to 0 celsius, before it starts melting. Then the energy for the phase transformation to liquid. Then phase transformation from liquid to vapour at 100 celsius in normal air pressure. The heat transfer from the surrounding ice/water happens quite rapidly, from the ice/liquid around. So to melt the lake, it would take quite a lot of energy to first get the thermodynamic system(lake) in this case to 0 Celsius and phase transformation energy. So I would imagine the fire would kind of melt holes around the rapidly appearing water, but to get that ice to 0 celsius would really take some time(Drogon would run out of gas). And the water beneath it is also freezing, so the cold air is also a factor. Seeing how fast it froze + the surrounding ice zombies making their own thing 😀It is quite safe to even keep a huge bonfire on a lake because of the rapid heat transformation/movement from surrounding system, which only melts a tiny hole in comparison. A small nuke would vaporize the water 🙂

@David Palero, I think by well made, they meant in terms of the filmmaking (which one cannot deny) but it doesn’t excuse the writing. I honestly hate how people defend the last seasons by saying they’re just bad by GoT standards but better than most tv shows. No, sure they’re visually incredible but the writing is what matters. Breaking Bad isn’t this epic tv show with a massively ambitious story. It’s much smaller scale but it’s considered one of the best tv shows of all time because of its outstanding writing.

I agree with you, and i will like AltShiftX no matter what, but some of his complaints are kind of hypocritical or wrong, at least to me. "Jon Snow being saved in the last minute is bad, but why wasn't Benjen saved at the last minute." "Lets apply real world science on how fast a Raven flies, but not on how much a Horse can carry without getting tired too early." "Why didn't they just burn the Night King, a being who is immune to fire?" "Arya is hypocritical because she served wine to Tywin, even though she literally worked against the Lannisters during that time by killing them off or trying to warn Robb."

People have opinions, I don't see why so many of the comments here are complaining about people complaining. We have gotten way too META as a society. Critiquing the episode is fine, alt shift does it. So people are also doing it in the comments. I mean, shit, now I have been forced to complain about people complaining about people complaining about the episode to get my point across. I don't want to, but how here we are... FYI I agree, I just enjoy the channel for the high quality and in depth way he goes about "explaining" these episodes.Of course sometimes there is not much to explain, so it's more of a Got ep.7-6 discussed.

It could be because of the different genes of the families. Lyanna Stark + Rhaegar Targaryen = Jon Ned Stark + Catelyn Tully = the other stark children Maybe the Stark genes are more dominant over the Targaryen genes than the Tully ones. Just speculation though.

Adam Town It's true. Targaryen genes should be recessive with any other, they're too rare. And Tully, well, 4 of 5 Stark children are red headed with blue eyes (don't know why they only made Sansa look like that in the show), only Arya looks a Stark. So Tully is dominant over Stark

@dominict9325
@dominict9325 7 жыл бұрын
It's spelled Catelyn and it was mentioned in the first book, not the first season, but yes, you're absolutely right. It's said in the first book that Arya and Jon are the only one of Ned's kids who actually look like Starks and in fact, Jon is even Ned's spitting image. Like, it's one of the big reasons she hates Jon so much: He looks more like Ned than her own children do. Which is one of many reasons why I fucking detest R+L=J and why I don't think it's true in the books. Now, I'll grant, Arya is also said to look a lot like Lyanna so it's not too unreasonable to think that Jon could look like his uncle if Ned were his uncle, but given how it's specially pointed out that Jon who, for the sake of argument, is now a Targaryen, looks more like his UNCLE than that uncle's ACTUAL BIOLOGICAL CHILDREN is kinda horse-shit. Sure, it's entirely feasible that Jon would still have the Stark look since dark hair and dark eyes are dominant genes as opposed to the recessive silver-blonde hair and purple eyes, but to be his SPITTING IMAGE is just... Eh, that shit does not happen often in real life. Of course, it's a moot point in the show because they've confirmed R+L=J and keep rubbing it in our god damn faces, not to mention that Kit Harrington obviously doesn't look like Sean Bean, but meh. I consider the books and the show to be completely separate entities by this point.

Yeah, but unlike LOTR, Dany and her dragons didn't swoop in from out of nowhere. Jon had it in mind all along that her rescuing them would be a last ditch effort with a low probability of success. If it was a truly crushing disbelief moment, one of the dragons wouldn't have died. That's a major consequence of Jon Snow taking such a high risk chance with a low-probability of success rescue plan.
@Athaeus
@Athaeus 5 жыл бұрын
@@kabob21 But Jon was submerged in icy waters for... how long? It was enough time for all the zombies to shuffle away and the Night King to be long gone. And how did Benjen know where and when to show up to save Jon with a horse? And why _did_ all the zombies and White Walkers leave, only to return a little later to fish out the dragon? It all made so little sense. The show isn't all bad. Much of it is still good. But the quality is in a definite decline.

I think Sansa and Arya are working together to convince Littlefinger that they are falling into his "trap." Littlefinger works by making groups fight each other, and coming on top in the end-- Starks vs. Lannisters, Lannisters vs. Tyrells, each time he creates "chaos" and benefits from it. Sansa didn't trust Littlefinger before; why would she trust him now? Their fighting "doesn't make sense" but it perfectly plays into what Littlefinger wants to happen. What if the Starks are luring him into a false sense of security to take him down? Maybe Arya will wear his face so the Knights of the Vale and the Northern Lords will not leave Sansa's side? Just a theory!

14:17 I'm pretty sure it's heavily implied that the Night King also has the sight and is perhaps even a warg (maybe explaining the hivemind that the wights seem to have; perhaps all White Walkers are wargs as well, maybe not greenseers necessarily though). Remember him grabbing Bran when he was greenseeing to where the Night King had been created in S6? Also, 14:53, fire does not kill White Walkers... nor massive objects. Only dragonglass and Valyrian steel. No offense mate, I'm a huge fan and not trying to be rude, but I think you would know this of all people.
@AbdelMX5

Given the only weapons that can kill dragons are Dragonglass which is named after dragons, and Valyrian steel which can only be forged with dragonfire, there is a big correlation that lets us assume Dragonfire has magical properties and might be effective against while walkers too

Daenerys doesn't know anything about the White Walkers, I assume that she even didn't know that there was a "Night King" commanding everything. She just saw a bunch of undead corpses and started burning them. Dragon fire may kill the Night King's lieutenants but I highly doubt it can kill the Night King himself. He's got a magical dragonglass "heart" and was created to be a deadly weapon against men. I think Alt Shift is not the best GoT reviewer anymore ( on the english-speaking community), this channel is almost completely devoted to the patreons now. This is no ordinary fantasy book, this is not the lord of the rings where we have heroes and villains, they're the bad ones and we're the good ones. No, these books have politics, betrayal, human feelings in most of the characters, the attention to details, the well crafted plots, this last season all that is lost, and we noticed. It's sad.

Okay, the Ice King knew the dragons were coming because, like Bran, he has greensight, as is shown in Bran's vision when the Night King marked him. But the night king is a lot more skilled with greensight, he has a lot more control and experience, and there for he can probably see almost everything. Therefore allowing him to set up this trap.

I'm surprised OP didn't notice/mention in the Arya/Sansa scene that Arya ultimately turned the dagger around, pointing the *hilt* towards Sansa. I took this to mean that, despite all their misgivings, Arya still ultimately trusts her sister: Arya *could* kill Sansa, but won't. It kinda puts the end to the argument made in the video that they're falling out.

The chains belong to the giants. Those are really similar to the ones which were used in s4 to remove the outer gate inside the wall. Remember the opening scene in s7 in which we were shown that giants had been turned to zombies? Well, probably they brought their chains and during this episode we didn't get to watch the giants for the same reason we don't get direwolves. Chains are cheaper to film than giants.

Yes, I saw there were no giants, that's why I wrote what I wrote on my first comment. Budget for CGI has been somewhat of a delicate issue in the show, that's why I think that whereas we don't see the giants, they are probably there, just like we don't see Ghost but we know he is just walking around there, that's why I compared the giants with the direwolves, it may be easier for the showrunners to make chains than to spend money on giants when they can spend it on making dragons.

One of the theories I've heard that I really like is that Arya wasn't in fact being irrational, rather she was playing the game of faces really well. Having seen Baelish paying off a maid or whatever in a previous episode, Arya explains the game to Sansa and proceeds to lie about essentially wanting to kill her. The biggest clue is about Arya wearing Sansa's dresses, which is so way off base that Sansa would see that she was not being serious and was in fact playing the game for the benefit of whatever means Baelish had to hear, to demonstrate to Sansa how believable she can be, but also to show Sansa that she is not her enemy. Hopefully, it plays out this way, and we see them form an alliance in Jon's absence that thus ends Baelish, continuing the character cull that started last season as the showrunners have been struggling to control a huge cast of characters without a reference point.

2:13 No you've interpreted this scene slightly wrong. -In one of the scenes Arya explains that while she was training with the faceless men she used to play a game. Tell a story and try to make lies sound like the truth. -That's what Arya was doing when she was telling the story about how the "rules were wrong". -She slips in a lie saying that Sansa betrayed their father. Sansa catches her and explains about how she was "only a child" -Later in the bedroom Arya shows she does not want to become the lady of Winterfell by talking all about how she could become Sansa but Sansa knows thats not her. -Arya respects the fact that Sansa has won the game and so hands her the knife. I hope that explains that part of the story a bit more as I realise it can be quite confusing.

Lol, your interpretation is more confusing than what actually happened in the episode. Don't sprain your wrist patting yourself on the back.

The whole thing with Sansa and Arya is a ruse. A ploy to draw Littlefinger out in the open and expose him. Its so painfully obvious that I just have to think that people are overlooking it, on purpose. Little Finger will be caught out, and gutted by Ayra, and then Sansa will have the Vail's Army's with that General, rather than Little Finger. It is plain as day!

don't the white walkers bring the cold with them? Like in that one ep where the mutineers of the Nights watch were at that incest camp and that one guy went to sacrifice the baby, only to run away when he say the puddle of water freeze, assumingly because there was a white near by?

Yeah of course Dany could have attacked the night king but HER CHILD JUST DIED and the night king still had 2 spears and even was throwing one the moment she fled so she obiously was hella scared. She wanted to get away and not risk losing another child. She was extremely in shock

Strong point on the Gendry scene vs the Sansa scene. I always brushed the Sansa scene off because rape has been part of the show since the first episode with Dany and Drogo, and my mom was angry at me for days afterward because I didn't wasn't outraged and horrified by what happened to Sansa and she thought I actually had no problem with seeing rape.

Because Ramsey was such a hated character and drogo was loved. Mellisandre is also a character which isn't like obviously hated by everyone. Also it's fiction all these outraged people wheter it be for sansa or gendry they wouldn't give a shit if it was someone in real life that they know.

Benjen said "theres no time", why? He took Bran and Meera all the way south to the wall. During that time Bran could have told him he will need to help Jon and if Benjen rides he won't make it to the wall before Dany leaves. So again all he manages to say is "theres no time", interesting choice imo.

Drogon has smelled Jon (S07E05) which is a Targaryen in danger like Daenerys at Meereen arena. That's how they found them. As for Benjen he was the First Ranger of the Night's Watch. He knew exactly how to move beyond the wall or maybe the Three-eyed raven send him again. He can't pass the wall. There's no time for explanations... The wights are coming!
@hkay93
@hkay93 7 жыл бұрын
Given that the Wights move at the White Walkers' commands, I kind of assumed that Benjen being half turned meant that he could hear their orders and knew where to go because of it. (He would have made the perfect spy for the humans)

Drogon and Dany have a bond. Similar in the way the Starks and their direwolves are connected. They feel what the other feels. So i doubt it had anything to do with Targ blood and more to do with his mother was in danger and he could feel it.

The problem is that you're making that up to excuse the poor writing that this show had this season. But no one on HBO has said anything to explain a fucking thing. Even so, D&D have stated basically that "if you don't like it, don't watch it" like they clearly know they have the audience and donet give a shit about the criticism the fans (the smart ones) are giving.
@MyKorrekt
@MyKorrekt 7 жыл бұрын
well i coudn´t agree more with the writers attitude. If you think you are smart just because you critize the writing then please do me a favor and stop watching. It´s like the "smart ones" just randomly hate about the wiriting without seeing major thins. For example missing source material because george rr martin writes slow as hell, or the simple fact that there is no time left for something like the redwedding. It woudn´t make any sense if something like this would happen in s7. The white walkers have been the real threat since the beginning. Now they are here. And i promise you if we see a full episode of jon and the others rowing towards the wall you all would complain too. only real thing that is annoying are the plot armors, but hey you can´t have everything.
@Shovi_
@Shovi_ 7 жыл бұрын
@FrozenChery No one is "randomly hating" on the writting, people are making valid complains about what is wrong with the current writing. If you can't see that and only see people whine just for the sake of whining then i feel sorry for you. Blaming GRRM for the faults of the show is a really stupid move, he gave the showrunners the greenlight to adapt it when they knew the source material wasn't finished, so they should have thought long and hard about what would happen when they reached the point of surpassing the books. They could have easily pulled for more time if they didn't throw away entire extensive plots from the books. The show at the moment has a totally different feel then the first 3-4 seasons where mistakes cost people dearly and plot armor was very very subtle, not how we have it now, 3 deus ex machina in one episode.....
