Appreciate it! Always good to connect with fellow Alucab brothers. The Interior is still stock at the moment. I've got about 20 nights in it since getting it in late august and I'm still feeling out the interior space. Not sure if I want to build an L shaped cabinet/seating area or just go for the full U shaped design. Endless possibilities.

I just found your channel. I like it. It's nice to see someone on utube that doesn't have a million dollars to buy all the whisels and bell's I've had my canopy camper for almost a year. I like to keep it simple.
@evergreenoffroadoverland2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that! Yeah, any money I did have was used to get the truck and the camper to where its at today. I do plan to build out the interior over time, but no huge hurry to do that. It's such an improvement over my previous setups that I am enjoying it bare-bones for now. Glad to hear from a fellow Alucab enthusiast!

Thank you!! I have been trying to eval between the T Atlas, Overland Camper Project M, and this, the Canopy Cabin!! I reckon the project M has the most room, but doesn't seem to have the graceful aging and ease of use that the other two options. Some of the other factors for me would be to be able to modularly add important things, like a;; the integrated Alu's table under the overhang, Alu's 30 gal h2o tank, Alu shadow awning and Alu shower cube, and the marine furnace which is just a neat but requires some space at the back for the chimney which the Atlas and Project M don't facilitate so easily. So, Alu has iterated many of these designs through field trials, including being sealed up from road dust. Everything is a compromise in this regard, but so far, I'm with you on this being the best thus far. I can't wait to see how you decide upon the interior build!! Getting a second battery and inverter with some lithium batts, a wrapon toilet, and for me, in SE TX, maybe a dometic AC in the roof?!? Well, you cant have everything, but its a fun mental exercise. Stay well and happy wheelin'!
@evergreenoffroadoverland2 жыл бұрын
It really just depends on what sort of lifestyle you lead. If you're doing more tight, somewhat technical trails, an Alucabin might be the way to go because its built tougher and is light weight. If you have a family though and want more space throughout, you might consider a Project M (although I hear these aren't so great). The interior build outs are what start to get crazy, no matter which option you go with. Thats what I'm looking forward to next. Follow up and let us know what you decide!

How do you change your tail light bulb if it burns out? I love this setup but it looks like you can’t get your the side of the tail light screws to remove the assembly to change a bulb. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
@evergreenoffroadoverland9 ай бұрын
Hey Michael, so there are two bolts that you can access from the inside to remove the tail light. Also it’s an LED tail light so there’s no bulbs involved.
@michaelgriffith27629 ай бұрын
@@evergreenoffroadoverland oh ok. Do you need to remove the vehicle fit kit piece to do that? I’m just thinking of my F150. The tail light housings are notorious for leaking and burning out bulbs.
@evergreenoffroadoverland9 ай бұрын
@@michaelgriffith2762 I’m not sure on the tundras or f150’s if you do. The fit kit is sealed with sealant all around the tailgate area and not easily removed, if even possible at all. I would recommend switch your tail lights to a reliable LED before installing an alucabin.

When pulling the tent down, do you ever pinch the tent fabric?
@evergreenoffroadoverland5 ай бұрын
The elastic strap does help to pull the material inward but the tent fabric does sometimes want to get in the way of the lid closing yes but I just swipe my arms across it to tuck everything back inside the perimeter of the top shell. Not a big deal at all, just part of the closing process.

Excellent job - I'm looking for a Tundra to do this same build. Found a couple very likely candidates. I was toying with the idea of fabing a fit kit for my 8' bed 99 Ram 2500 - and if I had a shop to use (with a lift). Probably won't do it since it would cost about the same as a 2017-2018 Tundra. If I did, I'd end up with a Ram 2500 with a '98 Cummins Diesel swap, new tranny, Big Brake kit (which it will need for all that extra weight). 100% new bushings & suspension, lockers, gearing to match the Diesel, a full rust prepped frame, etc. - Mechanically new truck but with the sadly dated interior. A lot of work and time - not sure it's much of an improvement over a 2017 Tundra (if at all). Better mileage by maybe 5-8mpg (but then diesel prices...) but - more storage😊 Since the AluCabin doesn't "fit" that truck - some fabrication is in order. I'd install a false front wall in the bed for the AluCabin to sit on, leaving me 1.5' of bed in front of the cabin. Build an extension that seals up to the AluCabin, goes the other 1.5' to the actual front of the bed, and leaves just a tiny gap (say enough for a neoprene seal between the top of the extension and the cab-over part of the AluCabin. Camp it to the bed rail. Give it a removable floor to access bed space underneath - creating two compartments. Insulate the bottom - add drawer slides & tray to the top. That's a lot of extra storage - 1.5' by about 2' by 5.5' In the lower part, install a 40gal water tank on the passenger side and 2 heated Battleborn batteries (200Ah - 2600Wh) on the driver's side, and run a battery disconnect through the bed wall to disconnect the batteries from the system. There should still be room for a water heater and pump in the lower section. (probably the Wabasto heater, too - but I'd need to think through the air intake - exhaust is easy, but with that compartment sealed up as close to airtight as possible - air intake would be... interesting.

Wish the had an option that kept the tail gate
@evergreenoffroadoverland Жыл бұрын
Yeah and that would be nice for certain applications. I know with a GFC or a 4wheel camper Project M you can keep your tailgate. You gotta fully commit though with an Alucab. I love the rear hatch though, really completes the experience. I love it the way it is, even still!

Aside from the obvious “where do you put the tailgate after you remove it? Because you’ll need it again. It reduces the non-camping utility of the truck. What do you do with the alu-cab door when hauling fence post home from Lowe’s?

If I lived in the forest 2x4s wouldn't enter my mind. I'd be thinking logs split for lumber, and lots of bengay. Nice rig. I'm torn between AluCab and SUPER PACIFIC. S.P starts @14,500 mounted for a 61/2" bed. Both units are comparable in quality. The price point on the other hand is very enticing in the S.P.s favor. SUPER PACIFIC! It's worth taking a very close look at as well. Both are excellent. The top two choices in my book. Hmmmm! Decisions. Decisions.

For the style of offroad travel I do, I haven't felt limited by the 6.5' bed. I actually specifically chose the 6.5' bed because it is so spacious in the alucab. I did get high centered one time going over a little hill/ledge type obstacle but I don't try to get too wild out there in the Tundra. It can be removed but it would need to be done professionally (most likely by the same place you had it installed). It requires an overhead hoist typically to lift these off the bed so wherever you have it uninstalled is where you'd coordinate with the new buyer to meetup and have it installed on their truck.
