As you say, not something a lot of detailers will be doing on a regular basis, but still VERY interesting to watch. Great results! 👍🏼👍🏼

I do the occassional cargo trailer and truck toolbox.. Friggin hammered pitted up aluminum diamond plate is such a bastard.. tears up your polishing material, and it's such a pain to get a consistent finish with all the raised surface area.. I've kind of settled on various size felt wheels for powered and Xtreme Solutions Whitebox wad polish for working by hand, then I use a lot of strong body prep solvent to remove the residue somewhat efficiently. 👍👌✌

Sharkhide is supposed to seal and protect metal and aluminum, never tried it so I can’t say, just a thought, looks great Phil 👍😁

Great results Phil! Looking so nice! What about using an exacto knife to cut off the sloppy silicone job? Just a thought.

Thanks! Oh good idea! I could try that. I’m just worried about cutting to much out and then water may seep in there...

@@MirandaDetailing if the caulking has been installed properly, you should be fine. Another option would be to cut the old stuff out and perhaps go back with fresh caulking if you think water might get in there. Maybe a clear one so you don't see it at all?

What pads are you using in this video to polish the diamond plate aluminum? I just bought the renagade set in your video based on your recommendation

Hi. I was just using older purple wool pads. You can use foam or wool pads, but dedicate them for aluminum polish only.

@@MirandaDetailing Thanks sir. The one 3 inch on your rotary looked maybe like a microfiber pad. 😄

Phil, I have CCW 19" billet aluminum wheels and have had zero luck using Mother's billet polish and the Mother's red ball tool. The wheels have micro scratching and some water spots. Would you recommend using the products in the video on billet aluminum wheels? If so, how often do you switch out or clean the pads? Another good video and the timing is perfect since I need to get the Vette ready for winter storage pretty soon.

Hi. Astro they bare aluminum or coated? If they are coated aluminum that means they have a clear coat sprayer on them like paint and polishing them will be just like polishing paint. However the clear will be thinner so use caution. But if uncoated aluminum it is certainly messy to polish like you saw! 😆. The pads get wrecked pretty fast. But if you buy cheap pads they work great and then you can clean them out with degreaser. But they will never look the same, the aluminum oxide dyes the pads black permanently. But the heavy cut Rebel Red metal polish works really well to reduce little scratches. But to really remove scratches in bare aluminum you need to really go aggressive to remove them and then go in stages to compound and polish the aluminum. It’s takes a lot of time. I don’t deal to much with polishing bare aluminum wheels becasue it takes way to much time and I don’t have al the proper small polishing tools like some wheel repair guys do.

@@MirandaDetailing They are bare and everything turns black when using Mother's so I know what you mean. And yes, there are a real pain to work on. I don't mind if I get results, but Mother's Billet Polish is not doing the job other than making my Mother's ball and old mf clothes turn black! Thanks for the advice about pads. Maybe I'll go with MF pads to get the extra aggressive cutting action and follow up with foam pads to bring out the shine.
