My father passed away a few months ago. He had a workshop and welded aluminum. I focused on other things and didn't go to his workshop. Now I need him to be able to repair some things... I found in your video many of the things my father taught me but I had forgotten, thank you so much

I believe that AC can create a big enough charge capable of overloading aluminum electrodes. Many people underestimate AC stick which I've seen melt E6010 that they call DC only. E6010 and aluminum electrodes shouldn't resist alternating current that long.

Great information.....im trying to fix a small crack on my transmission i try aluminum brazing but can't get the transmission hot enough. im think of buy a cheap stick welder to fix it myself as i cant find someone to do it in my area

You could parallel your AC buzz box with another to create a big enough charge capable of overloading aluminum electrodes and workpiece.

A friend just gave me a 115v/70amp stick welder and I need to weld the back on a broken automatic transmission. Was quite happy till you said it needs high amperage. I thought aluminum would be lower amperage.🤔 Anyway, not gonna work? Thanks for any advice. Getting desperate to get my beasty back on the road.

You can try it if you got a thin enough rod like a 1/16 and you heat the aluminuim you can try it. Why not. Its already broken cant be more broken after ur done.

One more thing, if you don't mind. I'm about ready to ebay some rods. Any recommendations? Is one as good as another as long as it's 1/16? I saw one with silicon that's supposed to be less spattery?

The only ones i can find are these “Aluminum E4043 Stick Electrode Rod 3/32” Remember E4043 is the rod you need. I cant find any 1/16 rods only for TIG. Get the E4043 3/32 one and try it but i doubt its gonna have enough power to burn it.

​@@aweldersjourneyI bought some on ebay earlier. Here's how they had it listed: ER4043 1-lb 1/16" x 16" Aluminum Welding Rod - TIG Filler Rod, TIG Rod. I watched a few other videos and hopefully I'm right that these can be used for welding with my 70A/115V or with a tig or even a torch alone. Dunno much and it's a bit confusing for a newby. I only ever used the trad 225V Lincoln for steel and that was many years ago. Think what I got will do the trick?

What amp settings you use? What's the smallest thickness it can weld? I mean can it weld aluminum pipes

I am using around 100-110 amps with 1/8 rods and welding 4-5mm material. I haven’t tried a 3/32 rod on a thinner material yet but it can be done.

Like I have only Tig and Mig welded aluminium, even though I used to weld stick almost every day when I used to be a metalworker.

Personally i never welded aluminum under 4 mm with stick 3 is the limit i think. Unless you can find a thinner rod than 3/32 and i think its more plausible on lower amps

Iv got a all aluminum golf cart iv modified from electric to gas ..no one can make it hold with aluminum welding ..as always I'm ready to take matters into my own hands and I'm fed up ..so I'll need to buy a DC welder correct??

Nope its not ! But keep trying you will get better
