Once you get the aluminum hot enough you can can flow the rod into the joint without keeping the torch on it. It should hold temp just fine and be less susceptible to warping.

Nice job! Took me about 7 tries before finding a technique that worked consistently.

I have watched several videos using these rods. Never attempted this before so it was a learning experience.I had some .063 tube I wanted to braze.Every video I have watched shows them melting. Well, I could not get them to work. I clean, sanded, and stainless steel new wire brushed the aluminum. Used MAPP. Hung corner over table edge to prevent heat sink.Then after all the precautions. After heating several minutes and 1/2 tank of MAPP( that is not cheap ) it still failed to flow Heat traveled up the tubes to the table in both directions. I tried both Bernzomatic and Harbor freight rods. Far I as I am concerned it was a waste of my time and money

great videos!!! would Alumiwelding seal aluminum gutter seams?

The heat would ruin the paint and coating but it would likely work!

How about trying to grind corners to 45 degrees and fill up the angle with what you use

Did you use a brazing flux?
@MrFredsDIY2 жыл бұрын
No flux is required with these rods. I find that’s it’s all about prep and temperature. Thanks for watching!

You should bevel the seams and when you weld the end pointed areas grind the pointed tip as well before welding then flip it so you can weld it on the horizonal plain. It will help with penetration and your able to control the puddle easier on a welding anything on a horizontal plain. aslo map gas is too hot for welding aluminum your better off using a oxy acetylene torch or even better is a Propane Cobra torch, which helps you weld with less heat so you have more control when welding aluminum.

Thanks for commenting. There are lots of little nuances with this process!

What people dont get about using this is that youre literally oxidzing the surface layer, the rod pools under and against that, use steel to bond the rod material and the aluminum such as a screw driver before the material cools by swiping the steel along the bonding channel.

Not sire I understand what you're saying. Bond them with steel?

I could never get it to work. No matter how long I leave the torch in it melted the parent metal , still wouldn't work.

I’m having better results now after a very lengthy learning curve. I also bought a stainless steel wire brush to use exclusively for this process. Apparently a non-ferrous brush works best. Thanks for watching..

The metal was warping because MAP was too hot for the thickness of the metal.

Thanks for checking out this video! This process is tricky when it comes to temperature for sure!

@@MrFredsDIY I tried on an 11/4" tubing and the tubing kept melting before the rod did well I found out that is because MAP was way too hot for my tubing thanks for the video.
