The fact that PCs system misused AK can’t be the reason to pay him now. I’d be in favor of extending his contract a year, guaranteeing more of what’s left and maybe sweeten the remaining deal a little bit. The saints can’t afford to give him CMC money but even if they found a way, paying a rb into their 30s that kind of money is bad business. We all like him and I’d be in favor of what I said above but much more than that and you start having to look at the big picture and making some tough business decisions. I hope it works out for all. @@TyrenJacksonJr Yall making excuses. There's RBs out there with similar O--lines and similar OCs who have been playing better. The guy hasn't cracked more than 4 yards a carry for 3 seasons including when Sean was here. The guy hasn't had more than 5 tds in 3 years. 5 tds was his best. The guy hasn't had a 1000 yard season in his entire career including after Ingram left and he was the feature back. Just go look at his stats and tell me he deserves to be the highest paid rb. External factors do play a role, BUT he still bears some responsibility. You can't blame it entirely on other people. most o-lines in the NFL suck. Yet, those rbs are still producing. Alvin was ranked the 30th best Rb in the NFL last year. Our OL while bad doesn't excuse that.

@@chaaap8079 And what about CMC when he faced similar problems with the panthers? Before his injuries the guy was on track for a 1000 yard every season and had far above 4 yards per carry. Carolina's O-line was atrocious, they also didn't have a QB, they also lacked Wrs outside of maybe DJ Moore. Go look at the NFLs ranking of RBs in 2023. You can't tell me that 29 other guys play on teams with situations drastically better than AK. They still all mostly got over 4 yards a carry, more than 800 yards, and had more than 5 tds. It can't all be on other people. It's on AK too. If you want to be paid like the best RB you at least need to match his production even when the chips are against you. Because CMC managed.

Imo..this is diva shit on Alvin's part. You're 29 which is old for a RB, your numbers haven't been elite in 3 years, you have 1 year left on your deal, and you leave practice? Nah son. His body language seemed uninterested in his interview too. Seemed combative. We can't justify giving him CMC money. Either way, he has to play. The guy is under contract. If we need to trade him,. then do that. I'm not opposed to giving him a big deal, I just think he needs to EARN it this year by showing he's worth it still.

AK deserves SOME of the responsibility. NFL website ranked him the 30TH best Rb last year. I'm sorry but our scheme and OL weren't that bad where those numbers are acceptable. Even when Sean Payton was here he wasn't playing elite. Had 3.7 yards per carry that year. I think he can still be that player, but he has to prove it. If he's balling in the middle of the season THEN extend him. The Saints aren't in the cap situation to be overpaying for 29 year old RBs who haven't been elite for 3 years. If he balls give him his money.

As always, a great analysis. He has not earned a new contract, but the Saints do need him in 2024. Both sides have a little bit of leverage, so I think a deal will get done that's more or less satisfactory for all, assuming both sides are willing to be reasonable. Whatever happens, it needs to happen sooner rather than later, before training camp starts.

AK is a special player, BUT Kendre can definitely do what he does at an effective level. And we can draft someone next year too. Love the guy, but he's playing a losing hand imo. He can't hold out forever since he technically still is under contract. If he sits, then it'll look worse on him. If I'm the saints, I'm standing firm and offering him what he's making now for 2 more years. Take it or leave it.
