I think the problem is that even if you like/handle extremely spicy food well, you have to adjust its spice level to the culture that you’re cooking for. If she were cooking in a Thai restaurant then she could probably add even more spice, but because this is MS Canada, it just doesn’t sell well.

Alvin getting enraged is nothing compared to how Joe was in the earlier seasons of MasterChef US. Alvin is either going to get upset like he did with Danny in S1 or give you constructive criticism. I never understood why they’re judged so harshly. Not everyone can make a better than Gordon style meal with as little time as they have.
@donaldtrumpling2016
@donaldtrumpling2016 11 ай бұрын
The only time they are super harsh is in the later episodes of a season. When they do (which is rare) it's simply because the person was so confidant and smug about how they cook and plus, it's later in the show, they should know the expectations that the judges have for what they cook

I noticed how if you fail but at least TRY and showed you genuinely put in effort, the judges wont be that upset. A bad dish that had passion and creativity but just didnt work out is not an offense to them. Its when people cut corners and play it safe or just deliver "below average" dishes that they get upset. Because half-a**ed dishes give an impression that you don't care

Why do contestants in masterchef US & canada always seem so aggresive or cocky? I don't know If i have just watched the wrong seasons but so often there are so many overconfident cooks who will do whatever they can to win (yes I am aware it is a competition). This is why I prefer masterchef Australia, its about lifting each other up with still a healthy competitiveness and they arent so cocky

It’s clear that season 1 was trying to be an exact carbon copy of the us version, like if you swapped the judges to be Gordon and the crew, this would be any normal us season, so I’m glad that season 2 found it’s own personality and format

Seeing as how Joe literally just throws the plates away without tasting and tells people their food is garbage, I find the judges here actually quite constructive and pleasant. Sure, they can be a bit savage, but not nearly as over the top as Masterchef US.
