Ha! I was 10 in 1981 when this record hit the charts! I *begged* my mum to get it for me, and bless her - she did! I remember bopping around the living room with her to this tune. Pretending was something my mum and I had to do a lot of back in '81. It was just us and we were as poor as church mice - poor in money, but there was always plenty of love to go 'round. We had a record player, though and were happy! Miss you mum - sleep well my lovely. Until we meet again x

Ahhhhh....this brings back happy memories of 1981 when I was 11. A simple song but very memorable. I think this was released by Stiff Records and typically has a very cheap video shot on the fly. I wonder where it was filmed and if any of the kids in it have posted their memories of it being filmed on this site.

RIP Alvin Stardust. Some pretty deft guitar playing on this rocky version of the slower old classic by older artists. He also knows how to act. Sad all these great older stars are now getting old and leaving to his ex world. The life of and music dies with them, only memories remain. There is nothing as good now to replace them. They put a lot of work into being as good as they were and some still are, as great artists who gave so much creative joy to so many people.

I remember this from the autumn of 1981 when I was just starting secondary school. Still sounds great. Stardust was supposed to be a washed up glam rocker by this time but good old Stiff records had faith in him and let him put this in out and it paid off as it got to number 4 in the UK. Love the video too, so of its time and brings back fond memories of a simpler time in my life.
