I saw this guy play the Philly Folk Fest about 12 or 13 years ago, & he totally blew me away. He is unbelieveable live.

Your fret board must be this worn, to play Mr Charley, Bravo. The voice fills are spot on

I saw him live with Dr. John, Charlie Musselwhite and Robert Jr. Lockwood a few years back in Toronto. He quickly became one of my favourites.

AYH is easily one the most under rated musicians out there. I saw him at The Horseshoe in Toronto in a spur of the moment thing to do. Didn't know hin before then. Man, what a treat that was!

The only time I got to see this smokin' guitarist was at Blues Unplugged In Long Beach, CA with Big Jay MacShann, Floyd Dixon and Honeyboy Edwards. He was so modest he said to the crowd, "What am I doing here? Look who I'm sharing the stage with." Paraphrased slightly. Well the crowd wasn't thinking that because he blew us away with his raw technical prowess. Mmmmm!

Howlin wolf ftw! But great energy in these types of music

This man makes it look so easy playing and singing a song so famously difficult. The only way this could have been even better would have been if he had incorporated some of Charley's signature slaps, taps, and stomps from the original, but it's understandable why he didn't.

I came here because Charley Patton is what Howlin Wolf got inspired by, who also inspired Rolling Stones. But became fan of Howlin Wolf, just love the energy in his music. Charley Patton is also not bad himself

You know, you could have maybe told that cat how he could have figured it out. Like pointing out how his fingers are positioned in a position that might translate into, "he's grabbing a major triad here.... And you can tell that because he's not barring across the d g and b strings but rather fretting along x y and z frets as one might in standard." Granted, that's a lot of extra typing, and maybe he has to learn that for himself, as many of us have... But, you know, sometimes it's good to help your brother along the way now and then. Everything I ever learned that was formative or foundational came from someone who was willing to take the time, even if only to shut me up for a bit.

yes its standard tuning but as you can see he has a kappo on the neck on the 1st fret so its 1 octave higher

What guitar is that? Old-school Parlour guitar?
@danielstoddart6 жыл бұрын
Charley Patton played a Stella, and this is a very similar guitar. Possibly a replica of a Stella, probably ladder-braced instead of cross-braced in construction, which supposedly provides more volume. Amazing that Patton could be heard in a dance hall with such a small bodied guitar.
