Rashard Lewis was traded to the Magic for a trade exception. Sonics sent the trade exception to Phoenix for Kurt Thomas and a first round pick in 2008 and 2010. The 2008 pick turned out to be Serge Ibaka. In 2016, Thunder traded Ibaka for Domantas Sabonis and Victor Oladipo which then was traded for Paul George to Indiana. Finally, George was traded to the Clippers for Danilo Gallinari, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, L.A.'s first round picks in 2022, 2024, and 2026, along with 2021 and 2023 picks via Miami, and pick swaps in 2023 and 2025. L.A.'s 2022 first round pick turned out to be Jalen Williams and Miami's 2021 pick turned out to be Tre Mann who was a part of the deal in 2024 that was sent to Charlotte for Gordon Hayward who has an expiring contract and it helped clearing cap space the next season which got them their biggest free agent signing in the franchise history in Isaiah Hartenstein. Presti is a genius.

I’m glad giddey has been doing well in Chicago but j Dub rising up from the beginning showed he was the true backcourt guard for the thunder
@Alvini_LinguineСағат бұрын
I still can’t believe he got Giddey but I can understand it to an extent. I guess he saw Shai as a SG at the time but as soon as he got him Shai turned into a playmaker also making Giddey almost obsolete from day 1. But him putting so much stock from him playing in Aussie land was pretty funny.

The Thunder are the next coming of the 60’s Celtics. Amazing team building top to bottom, a system that players and coaches both buy into and most of all, their willingness to make the defensive play. Chet and Wemby coming in the way they did really is reminiscent of Bill and Wilt. Bill Russell was drafted into a situation where they were already a championship team. His defense just took them to a level that led to the dominance of that team. I see similar things with Chet. Wemby reminds me of Wilt, big stats, fun to watch, but just doesn’t have the team around him to win consistently. While the Spurs can obviously still recover, they are going to have way less chances Draft wise meanwhile the Thunder will still be stacking. It’s insane tbh

Can’t discount the reality of this trade being that the Clippers weren’t really trading for Paul George, they were basically trading for Kawhi Leonard. So if Kawhi gets it done in the end, then the Clippers can still win the trade………if he’s healthy.

Why is this trade so loved when the Celtic’s trade actually got them a ring? I love the Thunder’s roster but they have two years max before the big contracts come and all this depth is gone. And why are people acting as if SGA was this high top tier prospect and making it seem like the Clippers traded a Luka type player? Yes the Thunder won the trade and have a great team from it but we need to relax with the hyperbole about the situation when at the time it made sense.
@Alvini_LinguineСағат бұрын
Give it a few more years. The Celtics took almost a decade to get their first chip with the duo. Let’s see if the Thunder take long to get theirs or how many they can get 👀😏

The differences that made OKC’s tank and rebuild successful where other’s failed is he made a plan and stuck to it. Anybody can trade away assets for picks and tank for draft position, but most get impatient and make mistakes and deviate from the plan. Usually for job security purposes, but the OKC owners had seen Presti do it before with the first rebuild he had a lot of rope. Clearly Presti’s plan wasn’t to just take the best player available or package a bunch of picks to move up in the draft. He had 15 1st round picks in 5 years or whatever that stupid number was and said instead of trying to package the picks to move up in the draft or trade for star players, Presti was going to take 4 or 5 shots every draft on high risk and high reward guys hoping 2 or 3 would pan out instead of drafting a guy that was ready to play right away. The first time around KD was a no brainer at 2, but Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka were drafted higher than most people thought they would. Presti might start trying to package picks to move up or for a star now that he’s got his core, but that wasn’t the plan the first few years.
