Where do you see the benefits realisation sitting ? With the project manager or the BAU teams - ultimately who is accountable ?
@alvinthepmofficial Жыл бұрын
@Morgan Whittle, from a benefits realisation perspective, this would typically lie with either the Project Manager and/or the Sponsor; however, it'll depend on your organization with how this is setup. Just remember that the PM Role is to deliver the project so that the benefits are realized. And it would ultimately be a shared responsibility among the project managers, sponsors, and leadership for benefits realization.

Does the Google certificate hours count/prepare you for the CAPM...or do you also need to take a CAPM certification class?
@alvinthepmofficial10 ай бұрын
The Google Certification will count as educational hours you can use to qualify for taking the CAPM Exam. It covers many of the concepts that are covered on your exam, however, I'd still recommend supplementing it with other study material (exam prep course, practice questions, and exam simulator) so you'll be fully ready for your exam. Thanks for your videos. I have a question. I'm finishing up my BS in project management. I have a high interest in Transportation and Logistics. Do you think this degree will transfer well based on your experience in Project management?
@alvinthepmofficial Жыл бұрын
@R Matthews, having a BS Degree in project management will definitely help you land project manager-related positions. Since you're interested in Transportation and Logistics, I highly recommend making a list of the Top 10 companies you're interested in applying to, and finding potential internships and/or job opportunities related to Project Management that you can get in the door. Find out if there are any recruiters or someone already working at the company and see if you can talk to them about your interest working there, to get a better feel of the work culture, and open opportunities (if available). I hope that helps!

Hey Alvin,appreciate the video! I just graduated in Bachelor of Science in Architecture and also just took CAPM certificate,went to several interviews afterwards with PMC company and got a job offer as aAssistant Project Manager position,honestly do you think I should take it eventho I do not have working experience in Architecture field (no site experience etc) or being an Asst. Project Manager will be a whole different thing? Appreciate your advice, I am contemplating as I think I am under-qualified for the position (feels like too much pressure) for a job straight out of college hahaha
@alvinthepmofficial Жыл бұрын
That's AMAZING to hear that you received an offer as an Assistant Project Manager! Congratulations on the positive news! Based on the title itself, it sounds like the role is entry-level, so I don't think they would expect you to have a lot of experience on the field, especially with visiting sites and performing construction audits, walking the floor, etc. Going for the position definitely can't hurt, since you'll gain experience either way. If you're in process of interviewing with other companies, find out how much time you have before you have to give the company your final decision about accepting the offer as an Asst. Project Manager. That way, you can have a few days (or even a full 1-2 weeks) to research the company more before you officially decide. Don't rush things, and do your best to evaluate ALL the offers from all companies you received offers from. If you have another competing offer, use that as leverage to negotiate a better starting salary and/or better benefits. Hope that helps!

Very insightful video. However, I had a question: how do you projectify experiences where you are the only one working on a project from initiation to end? For example, I've worked on a few short term projects where I was the one to plan the project details and then work to complete those details to finish the project.
@alvinthepmofficial2 жыл бұрын
@Nam Nguyen, I'm really glad you found the video helpful! I wouldn't worry too much if you were the only one working on the project from start to finish. I've been in the same situation as you when I was updating my resume, and instead of stating that I led a team or managed a group of people, I stated that I spearheaded an initiative to do ABC, which resulted in XYZ results. Focus on tweaking your resume so it has more efforts with how you managed projects, and quantify the results from each of those projects. Hope that helps!

If you don't have any experience with leading or managing projects from your Engineering work, then I encourage you to look into the CAPM Exam, since it's an entry-level certification in project management, which you can then use to land positions in project management. If you already have experience leading and managing projects as an Engineer (you need at least 3 years managing projects), then I encourage you to look into the PMP Exam.
