One of my best friends passed a year ago, and alvvays was one of his favorite bands (mine too). When I hear their music I get transported back to that place with him- and I can’t help but think he would’ve loved this gem. I’ll listen to the whole album for him too! Need to get tickets. It alvvays hits way too close to home every time I play them. It's always a nostalgic throwback to first semester of the university. The friends I made that are since long gone their own direction. The late nights we spent creating art on our college grounds. I'm still in that uni for masters, but it feels so empty. Soulless. I just wanna be done. And I'm sad I won't expirience that first semester ever again. It lives forever in my memory and is unlocked with alvvays songs.

It sometimes incorporates some of the distortion elements of shoegaze but usually focuses on the melodic aspects of shoegaze. Alvvays are a dream pop band with an occasional shoegaze drone. It was far more prominent on their first album. In undertow is a great song and is the most “shoegaze” tune on the second album but still is dream pop.
