In my opinion, from childhood to adulthood, SJ's misfortunes all came from YQY. As a child, YQY never sided with SJ in any fight with any other street kid, even though SJ fought to give both of them a better position and thus earn more money. YQY's desire to be a hero caused SJ to be captured by the Qiu family, and caused YQY to break his promise to SJ, causing SJ to be stuck in hell for 4 years (including 1 year with Wu Yanzi), completely ruining his future, while it is clear that YQY, with his acquired position, could have asked someone to save SJ but he did not. Growing up, YQY completely did not acknowledge that SJ had grown into SQQ but was forever immersed in the past, as evidenced by the fact that he kept calling SJ "Xiao Jiu", the name that haunted SJ along with "A-Luo" even though SJ asked him not to call him that many times. Therefore, in his eyes SJ was a spoiled child, he believed the words of the other martial siblings, always taking their sides but never believed or took SJ's side. Until his death, he still believed that SJ killed LQG. Actually, SJ's life would be much brighter if he didn't unfortunately get involved with YQY, but SJ is an idiot, just because YQ used to treat him well, he took his heart and lungs out and followed YQY, tortured and miserable all his life

And does anyone else see the way he always acts meek and guilty while clearly hurting SJ's feelings as nothing more than playing the victim? It makes people around unable to identify the real victim and unintentionally commit victim blaming (SJ). It's clear that the one who's more disappointed and hurt every time they talk is SJ, but he's also the one receiving insults, curses, and "ungrateful" labels from his other martial siblings who are clearly the ungrateful ones

Yeah I've noticed that, my first mistake was reading fanfics after just watching the donghua. So when I'm not sure about how a character is like, I usually go deep research mode just to be able to understand them more. The more you observe interactions that SJ has with others along with YQY, you'll notice how toxic they can be and only cause more hurt. The fact that SJ hasn't gone insane (unless you count qi deviation?) or true villain mode is truly remarkable since it shows how unmovable his will is.

I’ve actually never really THOUGHT about that.. I really need to reread through the books. I haven’t read them in a very long time, but I really, really love actually looking back and seeing how much I missed, how much I could have understood more if I had just read through the lines of the words in stories. That’s one reason I went from disliking Mu Qing (TGCF) to absolutely LOVING him, and understanding that everything he did was really, just him trying to do the best for everyone else. And the more I read into it, binghe was a LOT more similar to Shen Jiu than I thought. Of course they are two separate characters, and still completely different, in their pasts and in the ways they decided to showcase their anger and frustrations like an abused dog would to any human that tried to come near him later on. They’re both very similar, but yet, so, so different. And I love that I can actually SEE these things when I reread books. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to do.

The unjustice SJ experienced was so cruel 😭, he would definitely have a better life if he didn't associate with YQY but unfortunately, SJ is too attached to let go..
