I’m sorry that you had a rough start. It’s a lot of work to relactate but it’s very possible. Just stay consistent with pumping and add lots of breast massage before pumping. Holding baby skin to skin really helps a lot too. ❤️ Did you have a milk supply in the beginning before the complications started? Does or did baby latch at the breast?

@@marycahillclc Yes, I did have milk supply at the start. I was able to pump about half ounce per breast on the first days. Then on my 7th day post partum, I was rushed to the ER due to post partum preeclampsia. I was on strict bed rest and was not able to breast feed for several days. I ended up supplementing with formula, and now, my baby won't latch on me. I'm trying to relactate by pumping. Currently I'm just producing less than 5 mL per pump, so I just mix it with formula.

Hello, I've recently started watching a lot of your videos and they give me lots of hope. My problem is low milk supply my doctor was not happy with babies weight at the 1 week check up and it took baby 3 weeks to recover birth weight. I've already started doing a lot of the things you recommended but I have been struggling from week one. My baby is 11 weeks old and I'm still struggling inspite of following the 3 keys you mention. I quit my job to be home with baby so I am able to breastfeed every time baby is hungry but even that has not been enough. Baby has been evaluated for tongue tie and is negative for that. I feel so devastated. My wish was to EBF like I did my other 3 kids. I just can't seem to get my supply up. Baby is having to supplement with formula between the hours of 10am to 9 pm. During the hours of 10 pm to 10 am baby sleeps very well and I set my alarm to wake baby and feed every 3 hours( I do this to keep my night time supply up). Night time seems to be ok for now and I make more milk during this time but once it is 10 am the struggle begins. It's like my supply completely disappears. Baby will nurse on each side and when she is done she cries and begins to suckle on her hands and salivate a lot. She takes 2-3 ounces of formula every 2-3 hours during the day and sometimes seems to want more. I breast feed more often than this but formula at these intervals keeps her more satisfied and less crying. I really don't know what to do anymore. I'm starting to think I can't make more milk because of anxiety, my age and my chronic hypertension. Although my blood pressure is controlled I do take medication and I'm 35 yrs old and well I've been super stressed about my supply 😢. None of these factors were there with my other 3 kids and they all EBF PERFECTLY FINE. 💔😔 So heart breaking.

During the day when baby is taking a supplement, are you pumping? If so, how much are you getting at a pumping and how much total milk do you express every 24 hours? In the day, do you latch baby? If so, how often? And are you latching baby before, during or after bottle feeds? It can take up to 3 weeks for breastfed babies to regain birth weight. How was pregnancy and delivery? Was your BP controlled during pregnancy? Was labor long? Did you have IV fluids or medications during labor?

Hi Mommy! If you would like to get baby to the breast, here’s a video to walk you through. It’s important to try to latch baby at every feeding and stop whenever baby starts to fuss. It may feel like baby will never latch but when consistently working on it, baby usually starts to latch within a week or two. How Do I Get My Baby Through a Nursing Strike? kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4aQhmN_ebJ7p7s It’s ok if you’re not wanting to latch baby. You can exclusively pump. Even if baby only gets partial breastmilk, it’s still very beneficial. Those benefits will last baby their whole life. 2 ounces of breastmilk per pumping can be very average. (So you’re doing pretty well) I’ll link a video here on increasing supply when pumping. How often are you pumping? How many ounces are you getting every 24 hours? @marycahillclc Hi Mary! Thank you. Will definitely watch these videos. I'm trying to get to a good pumping schedule because I'm lacking in that area. It's just so hard since I'm with baby pretty much 24/7. In a 24 hour period I'll get like 8 oz pumping 4-5 times. I've tried power pumping as well. Baby has an appointment on Monday, I'll have Dr. Check and make sure she's not tongue or lip tied.
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 6 ай бұрын
@@CWS1985 I know it’s a lot but you should be pumping at least 8 times a day. (8 to 12). I know that’s quite a bit, only you can decide if it’s too overwhelming to fit into your schedule. Pumping is a ton of work, It’s OK if you just do partial breastmilk. Power pumping is good, but it takes even more time. You could do mini power pumping sessions. This means you do your regular pumping then wait 10 to 20 minutes and do a second pumping. It’s very important that you do breast massage before each pumping session. Applying heat before pumping helps to have a letdown sooner. Also holding baby skin to skin as often as possible, helps your supply and it will help baby to feel comfortable with the breast. To help your supply increase, you need to pump at around the same time every day. This tells your body that you need more milk. It won’t be as affective if you pump 5 times in the morning today and 3 in the afternoon/evening today. And then the next day 3 times in the morning and 5 times in the afternoon/evening. It must be consistent times (not exact but close). The power pumping should be consistent also. It’s OK if you only have time to do one power pumping/mini power pumping a day. Just try to keep it around the same time each day. That pumping video should help explain it better. If you could be very consistent, we will see an increase in supply in 3 to 5 days. By increase I mean a little bit and then it increases a little bit more each week. So if you’re pumping 2 ounces now, in five days, you should see 2 1/2 ounces.❤️ What was baby latching like in those first days? If baby was latching well but now refuses to latch, then we know it’s not a lip tongue tie.

Dear Mary, thank you for your knowledge and your will to share the knowledge with mommies around the world! Your videos really helped and gave me strenght in my brestfeeding journey! My baby was EBF for first 2-3 weeks, after that the patron nurse suggested to add formula after every feeding because baby had a little loss in the weight..struggles started as baby began to eat more formula than breast milk..so it lowered my supply. To be honest I had a pump, but didnt know that I neee to use it every time baby eats. Now, after watching your videos, baby starts slowly to EBF (baby is now 3 months)..I am still using a little formula, but I try to put baby on a breast everytime she eats and as long she is not fussy and I noticed even in two days some improvements. I would really like to EBF again without using more formula and I have in mind these magical three keys you are talking about..they make great job! Lots of greetings from Bosnia! ❤

I have seen multiple videos of yours. Your advice is really different and natural too.I'm breast feeding mom, was also pumping in between the breast feeds. I was doubtful about my milk production. In the morning I was producing 2oz and 1oz in the evening on pumping per breast till 6th week. After 6 weeks suddenly it dropped to 25ml only. I consulted a lactation consultant, she suggested me to pump for 10mins after every feed. I also tried power pumping. Power pumping increased my breast milk on 5th day. But on 6th day i didn't do power pumping, so my breast milk again dropped to 25ml. I really need help. I'm still breast feeding my baby, pumping after every feed except at nights. It's been 8 days, my milk supply is dropping day by day.

@@marycahillclc thank you mary for your fast reply. I was eagerly waiting for your reply. No I'm not taking any kind of medication. Only taking thyroid medicines, my thyroid is under control. Yes the problem started after 6 weeks. Now he is 8 weeks old. I'm not able to make him full. Yes I'm supplementing him with previously pumped milk and formula too. I always try to put him on my breast, if he is not satisfied then only I supplement him. I might have missed the breast feeding session in last week but in this week i have taken care of this to not to directly supplement him, first feed him through breast then top feed. I'm not making enough milk I guess, in the morning my baby feeds for 2-3 hrs with little breaks and only sleeps and gets satisfied when i top feed him.Same happens in the evening when he wakes up. Sometimes when I have work and can't sit for 2-3hrs, I feed him for while then give him supplement. I also had engorgment issue, but since last 2 weeks I only feel engorgment in the nights. What can be done to increase milk supply? I would like to add one more point, my baby never empties my breast. Mostly I pump out rest of the milk. Also he is having 6+ pee count. I don't know whether it is because of the top feeds. I supplement him 2-3 times a day. I do pumping when he is sleeping. It also happened a few times I just pumped and he demanded, then I only top feed him. Do I'm making pumping mistakes?

@@triptidahiya1619 I think that your supply is better than you believe it is. At around 6 to 8 weeks postpartum, our milk regulates down to just what baby takes out. At this point, we aren’t able to pump as much as we did before unless we are doing lots of pumping with lots of added breast massage. This added pumping would also need to be at the same time every day to maintain that supply. If baby is nursing from the breast without supplementing, pumping isn’t usually needed to increase supply. The best way to increase supply is by having baby at the breast as often and as long as possible. I know that’s not always possible though. Just keep in mind that when baby gets a supplement (formula or previously pumped milk), your supply will drop if you aren’t pumping at that same time. I tell moms to remember this, “if something goes into baby, something should come out of you”. Once baby starts to receive a supplement, mom’s supply will start to drop. You can feed from the breast, then bottle, then breast again all in the same feeding. This will increase supply while letting baby tell you when they need less supplement. Here is a link to my video that will explain it in more details. Increasing Your Milk Supply and Weaning off of Formula kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWSnhIFoedyZa68 After a few weeks of breastfeeding, your breasts should not be getting engorged very often. They should feel flat and empty like before you were pregnant. Milk is made while you are nursing or pumping. It’s not stored in your breasts. Babies can be fussy because they don’t feel well, overly tired or over stimulated. This can often look like baby is still hungry. So we give baby a supplement bottle, they drink it quickly because milk flows quickly from a bottle, they are now so full, that they fall asleep. At times, babies want to cluster feed. They do this when they’re not feeling well or going through a growth spurt (it hurts to grow so quickly). During a growth spurt baby doesn’t want or need more milk, but it is comforting to be at the breast longer. Breastmilk has natural painkillers in it. Plus mommy’s arms are comforting. Baby may nurse, then come off the breast crying. If you can walk around with baby and calm them, they will usually latch again. This cluster feeding time is in the afternoon and evening. It can be days or even a week where baby is extra fussy but it does get better. Most babies cluster feed for a few days a month but some do this more often. It can be scary to think that baby may not be getting enough to eat but you can always know that baby is getting enough, if you always see 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours. I covered a lot of things here. I hope that made sense. If not, please ask more questions. Let me know if the video to increase supply and wean off of formula, seems like something you can start doing.❤️

Thank you Mary for giving me this valuable information. I was not aware of all this. You have covered everything. But I still have a doubt. My baby don't empties my breast. Milk stays at the sides of breast after feeding as well and it hurts. Mostly what he does is he feeds for 5 min then sleeps off, then wakes up after 10-15 min then again demands feed. I keep on feeding him from the same breast until I feel it is a little empty. Someone told me if milk stays in breast it results in a low milk supply. So I usually pump it out. Pediatrics also suggested to finish feeding from one breast first then only swap to the other so that the baby will get the hind milk. I saw your video on breastfeeding. Please clarify my doubt, what should I do if my baby is not emptying my breast?
@marycahillclc
@marycahillclc 7 ай бұрын
@@triptidahiya1619 you can massage your breast while baby nurses. You could put some massage and pressure on those spots to help it flow. If you are uncomfortable, you would want to pump. Just don’t over pump. Pump until you are comfortable. I would wait and pump after baby is completely done nursing. If you are able to pump milk after baby is done nursing, then your milk supply is not low. If it’s a matter of baby, just falling asleep, you could work to wake baby up. Switching to the 2nd side will give baby another let down and satisfy baby. You do want baby to stay on the first breast as long as possible. This helps baby to get that fattier hind milk but you also want to offer the second breast at every feeding . That is for babies who are exclusively breastfeeding from the breast. And this is for babies from 1 months to 6 months old. I know it seems crazy but breast-fed babies don’t need or want more milk as they age from one month to six months. Formula fed babies do need more formula though as they age. Breastmilk is just utilized differently and more completely as baby ages. Formula can’t do that so baby needs more. When baby is fed breastmilk with a bottle, they often take in more than that average of 24 ounces every 24 hours. This is because milk comes out of the bottle so quickly. If baby is bottle-fed, they should be fed using the paced feeding method. I have a video on that. How much milk do you pump at each pumping session, and how much are you pumping every 24 hours?

If I feed her during the day, I don't often pump after as I'm busy supplementing with the formula. So on average I pump 2-3 times in the late afternoon evening.

@@incongruentcreative are you just using formula in the night? Tell me how feedings go, when you supplement with formula (and how much). When do you give pumped milk? Are you giving all of those 12 ounces that you’ve pumped? And when?

So sorry mommy. Yell me a little more. How old is baby? What signs are showing you that your supply is low? Are you feeding from the breast? Pumping? Formula feeding?
