Thanks Andy I’ve had a lot of people trying to get in my head recently telling me different things about my swing usually I don’t listen but this time I kind of did and it ruined my swing but as soon as I saw the first 5 minutes of this video I new what was wrong so I went up the range late last night and my swing instantly returned I hit one basket of balls and only hit 2 wayward shots which were a slight push to the right. I’m so happy now as I have a busy few weeks of Golf ahead. Once again thanks for posting this it was an eye opener. Cheers mate

Lesson learnt- do not listen to fellow amateurs. Their intent is always good but quality of information isnt. And/or the delivery of the information rarely works. Enjoy your golf over the next weeks

Excellently explained. Silly question but does this work with all clubs and including Driver? Been working on the trail elbow recently and seems to work with all my irons but then it all goes wrong with the fairway and driver

Thanks again for your tips. The main thing I take out of this video is having the trail arm elbow pointing at the sky at address. I had seen this before but had completely forgotten about it.

Really well explained video, the wrist twist was a real eye opener for me, very simple but for me priceless. Tried to implement this when playing this morning and felt the difference straight away. Looking forward to getting to the range and practicing it more.

Excellent job Andy in explaining the significance of the trail arm in the swing. This is something I have been working on for a while now and it is coming along nicely. Your demonstrated shot into the bunker looked like one of mine! :-) Good Job Though Andy!!

Brilliantly explained. Getting the elbow into your body on the downswing is the difficult part, but the backswing feels right and easier when your trail arm starts as you describe (in my humble opinion). Thanks

Another great explanation of the components of the golf swing. This problem is especially prevalent for people who grew up playing baseball since we're taught to keep the trail elbow up with hands high when setting to swing the baseball bat. This promotes a flatter swing through the strike zone. Learning to keep the trail elbow closer to the body is a major change and you see many former baseball players with out to in swings when playing golf. Thanks for sharing!

I like the right elbow in the position you advocate at setup, but sometimes fear it can lead to the club swinging behind the body and the arms and hands rolling over in the early backswing. I like the neutral right hand position you advocate, and when I hear that advocated I often think of the right hand grips of Ernie Els and Nick Faldo. Both of them had right palms that faced the target at address. I like the upper right arm staying close to the chest in the backswing as you recommend as that seems to keep the elbow from flaring out, and keeps width between the arms and chest at the top where a flared right arm would get the left arm pinned against the chest. The downswing however I'm not crazy about the right arm staying bent. I find if my right arm stays bent coming down I often end up with a loss of height, a bunch of side tilt, and a bunch of arm bend at impact. Too Dustin Johnson looking verses a more Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els impact where the right arm is closer to straight and it looks like there is room for the arms to travel through. It seems like the squeeze water out of a towel opposing forces, stabilizing the club Pete Cowen drill wouldn't work well with these ideas. Under what conditions might you advocate this as opposed to that, or that as opposed to this?
@richards5910

Great explanation. I'm interested in the lead arm - you mention it being "strong" - I'm guessing that doesn't mean tense, but you seem to have it straightened against itself at the elbow (for want of a better way of putting it) in order to keep it straight. Edit: I think I mean a lateral motion of the lead elbow away from the target, inward over the chest, without any rotation of the arm; is that the kind of feeling I should be aiming for? I've watched the tour pros do this but never quite figured it out. Thanks!
