This is so interesting because little things can really throw people off on types. Charlize was always dressed & photographed as more Romantic so people would never think she was Natural. Madonna as a dancer has always been muscular so people never thought she was Romantic. I think models & actresses in general sometimes get cast as a different type/vibe than they really are.

Earlier in Charlize career she was styled more romantically. However it appears that has she became more established she wore more FN. In my opinion, the reason we get confused by one or two opposing characteristics in the face compared to the body - is just because of that - because they are obviously opposing to the rest of the body and will stick out. Think of a completely blue painting, with two tiny dots of red placed somewhere on the canvas, you're definitely going to notice it immediately, but that doesn't suddenly make the painting into a red painting, or a purple painting. The painting is still blue, with two small dots of red. I think it's very rare for a person to have a body, face and essence that fits into one category or type. I think those types of women that fit completely into one type are forefronted by Kibbe because they are great visual examples to illustrate the archetypes. One or two characteristics that differ from your type, doesn't make you into a different type instead, or into a "hybrid" type, it's just essence or a vibe that needs to be included in your style to illustrate your personality. Not every classic will look like Grace Kelly. Being a classic means that on the yin/yang scale your combination isn't tipping the scale in any direction, it is a perfect blend between the two. Colouring also plays a big role. For exampel, a spring will probably be thought of as more yin because bright, animated and warm colours are by definition more yin in essence. Winters will appear to have more drama or yang in them, because their colours are darker, cool and brilliant, even severe. Autumn colours will give a natural vibe, because they are colours found in forests, or in greenery etc. Summers might look more balanced because their colours are cool, soft and mellow and give a calm impression. Love the video! This is just my take on it all! Love from Sweden~

I think it’s also important to add that until recently, there wasn’t much diversity with kibbe typing. I feel like most POC get typed in the natural category. I feel like I’m a pure SC or even DC, but because some of my features are labeled “exotic” I get sort of lumped in with the wrong types often.

I'm middle eastern and a romantic, but because my nose is sharper and longer than most white romantics, I doubted that a little and thought maybe I was theatrical romantic instead (as they're supposed to have a little more sharpness to them). But this is just how middle eastern noses look usually, and compared to other middle easterners my nose is actually kind of rounded and soft in the shape. So I just think like that, as an extra step I compare myself with people from my part of the world (based on my experience).

Agree. The way I understand Kibbe, is that we should look at the "category" of people in general, draw some average and go from there to find the type of a specific person. By category i mean not only race, but features typical in given geography. For example, if we say gamine should be max 5'4, the 95% of women in SE Asia will be gamines. But if we understand that 5'2 is average hight (not short) in this part of the world, suddenly all the Kibbe types shift and we have many more options.

@@mariannek6735 Hi...I’m Middle Eastern too, and it’s important not to focus too much on the face when typing. I do notice that most women I meet (and even my family members) are mostly theatrical romantics, very petite with sharpness, even our traditional dresses, elaborate jewelry and make up styles are very TR. My face is TR as well, but I am abit tall for an Arab girl (5’5), my body suits SC better. So it’s totally possible that their bodies are pure yin while they have abit of sharpness in the face, they’d be R rather than TR, like in your case.

It's funny because even though flamboyant naturals are supposed to have so much yang and strength in their bone structure, but I honestly think most FN's have what is associated with a "baby face" because there's often so much width in their upper body including their face. When you have a wider face rather than long it can make it seem short or even round which looks youthful. Most FN's also have fuller cheeks, wider and shorter noses and further apart eyes.. to me those are features that remind me of a baby lol. The difference is if they stand next to a soft gamine or romantic with a baby face then their features all of a sudden appear very strong

I’m having a hard time choose between SC, DC and SN. Analyzing the results of the entirety of my Kibbe test would place me as a soft classic. I did my test using a dead on photo in underwear, multiple photos of me over the years, and using a variety of image consultants pictures references w/ Kibbe descriptions). My body is well balanced between yin-yang with a slight tendency towards more yin. I have some narrow length to my arms, hands and feet, ankles and wrists… and have more muscular thighs. This gives me 2-3 A/B answers (even though musculature is confusing, because it’s only my lower body and Kibbe seem to look for muscular in the shoulders and arms). What tips me towards “soft” is actually my face, as it is very yang leaning. If Kibbe is all about wearing our lines, shouldn’t I give more weight to the results of my body than those of my face? Perhaps I am DC within my body, but SC in my face? The SN comes from me not understanding how the musculature in my lower body plays a role, though I do not have wideness or broadness in my shoulders or arms at all. Ultimately, I always end up ruling out SN because the natural beauty in my face and body is brought out in classic lines and I tend to look underdone in natural lines. If I gain weight too fast, I can begin to look broader because I gain fat in my abdomen first and then my lower body second (typical for a DC); if I gain weight slowly, I become more pear shaped from the start and never look broad. Pear-shaped weight gain is also typical for DC. From this, it seems like I’m obviously DC but my face throws me off!

I’ve thought I am every different type so far. I kept coming back to the natural family because of my shoulders and some width, but I always drowned in natural clothes or soft/flamboyant natural. How could this be? Then I would go back and forth between dramatic, romantic, natural, classic… no lines seemed right. I figured I can’t be a gamine because I’m not narrow. But then I read kibbe’s description of flamboyant gamine. FGs are broadly angular. That’s me! That’s why my face is all over A and D/E answers and my body doesn’t seem to “match”. It’s because I’m flamboyant gamine. I just have to add some little bit of femininity to that, and then my look is good. But at the end of the day, I learned that we shouldn’t get too far down the kibbe rabbit hole. I think it’s good to be aware that straighter features look best in straighter lines and rounder features look best in rounder lines and it’s a continuum of that, but if we get too far into it then that’s where we run into these issue of “what if my facd doesn’t match” or “my cheeks are puffy even though everything else is A so I can’t be dramatic”. I think it’s best to have this kibbe framework and then put it to the side and just use good judgement from there. For example, Taylor Swift is a dramatic. She looks best with long lines in her clothes. So then why does the straight bob not suit her as much as slight waves and curls? Because her face has some sweetness to it. If we live and die by the kibbe law, Taylor would be stuck with stiff lines which doesn’t work over her entire face/body. However, because we understand kibbe, we would know not to give her Marilyn Monroe curls. That would make TS look hard. We know to accommodate her sweet face with straighter soft waves and curls. I hope this makes sense. This is how different types in the same exact category differ because a dramatic like Kiera Knightli, while she is also flattered by straight lines, doesn’t have that sweet look so she should be styled more edgy whereas TS can’t pull that off even though she’s also dramatic. They both need straight lines, but different touches here and there within that. At the end of the day, this is why I am happy to understand Kibbe but then toss it to the side as use loose rules and good judgement with my looks personally.

Natural family are not recommended loose or shapeless outfits, rather the reverse. What they need are fabrics that leaves room for their width like stretch, silk or linen. SNs are recommended similar lines to R and FNs are recommended similar lines to both D and SD.

I always love your videos. Commenting on face types and ageing: Charlize Theron for example, I think she lost some muscle mass after starting ageing, when she played in The Devils Advocate (1997) she was younger and had other hair style, she looked very soft, but look at her at the movie "The Old Guard" (2020), she is really sharp and has a more "boney" face - which I also love... Other examples on your video that changed face type a lot with age (or weight loss), but specially age. The amount of "flesh" on the face makes a huge difference I guess. I myself was always so skinny and had huge cheeks, well now I am 42 and lost a bit of face muscle/mass, but gained some body weight. When people who know me see only my face on photos or video calls they say I didnt change, but my face stayed almost the same, but the body went from Zendaya to Beyonce, specially the lower body part, legs and hips. Madonna kept that shape with age, she just got a bit stronger. If I decide to "improve" my features with age, (or just retard the effects of ageing), for me the most important thing is trying to go closer to your young self, not change the face into a completely different person (like Madonna). Someone who did it in a great way is Halle Berry, and there are other great examples like Jenifer Lopes and other +50 people... By the way I am not against plastic surgery and don´t mean to shame anyone. I love Madonna anyways, no matter what...

The same happens when you find curvy flamboyant naturals! You cant make a lot of assumptions with them.

Yes, and I would love to see ‘modest dressing for the body types’ as well, and how a yin or petite type would go about doing that, since modest dressing is long and more loosely fitted.

I was always confused whether if I have a dramatic face or soft dramatic face because my nose is quite narrow and long but I have full lips and exotic looking (red-brown) eyes with high cheekbones, but my body fits pure dramatic.. it’s confusing because I know how to dress, but I struggle sometimes with makeup looks. Contour can make me look too angular. I wonder since I’m racially ambiguous that could cause some of the mystery..

I'm a soft natural. Although, my face has some "gaminish" traits, so much that people think I'm shorter, even though I'm 1,68 (a regular to tall height in my country). I kinda suffer with that. "Cute" things get better with my face, not by body :/ I try to marry both traits.

I think she is Soft Natural, and I believe Kibbe re-typed her from SG to SN because of her height (5’6) and figure. SN lines and clothing suits her best, though she definitely did have a strong Ingenue essence in her youth, which is why Kibbe mistook her for SG. If you look closely at her facial features though, she is definitely SN.

Thank you for this video! Because of such differences & Because I do not look like celebrities I could do not tell if I am dramatic, Flamboyant gamine, or Natural/FN what made things worse for me is the fact that some dressing recommendations for FN look AMAZING on me but also some recommendations of both dramatic or FG look AMAZING on me! So I could not box myself which is the good news here I guess. The thing that I came up with is that I have to mix Yin & Yang qualities in my look otherwise I would look weirdly long or too obviously skinny...for example if the fabric is lightweight (Yin), the edges be sharp and it's details should be minimal (Yang) and it better fit me (Yin) and so on

Madonna. And her shoulders are too sloped to be a soft natural i think. She looks like she has powerful shoulders because she's extremely fit and she works out, but you should see how she looks in romantic fabrics early in her career and how hourglass her body looked during the 80's and early 90's.

Same. I've been trying more volume in my hairstyles, larger hats, tied headscarves to draw more attention up there. Also the good thing about the small head is that it can make you look taller, so i find i can wear longer line clothing (coats, dresses, long skirts) even though I'm only average height. It's ok not to look like a doll, thinking of myself as more "statuesque" has helped.

Aly do you think that people who are pretty skinny or overweight get mistyped sometimes? I think when someone is really overweight they can look pretty soft even if their “body type” isn’t a soft body type. And same for people who are pretty thin- even if they naturally have some softness in their body, that can disappear when they get really skinny & they can look pretty sharp. I feel like a lot of celebrities are good examples of this. I really love Emilia Clarke for example but I’ve noticed that over the past couple years she has gone from being a normal weight to pretty underweight looking. You always type her as a romantic but because she is so thin now she doesn’t look like a romantic to me anymore. Do you think weight can affect what body type you are typed as?

I'm a bit disappointed because it is mostly about tall woman with a small round face, then some different features (shoulders, hips..), but they are nearly on this small face and long body type. Except maybe Chloe Sevigny. But mostly, of course, look like from a fairytale, because they have a doll silhouette. I'm really small as a soft gamine but my face is long and sharp as a dramatic, it's really less elegant than the first ones. The hair is particularly complicated. I absolutely not recognize in the SG doll face with big eyes and cheeks... I'm more like Betty Davis with Sarah jessica Parker face! What a match! Isn't it a new beauty rule, the zendaya type? Really small kitty face on a super long body? I mean, even more than the model type we are used to? So this video, in my opinion, really deals with high standard beauty more than all different kinds of beauty. But I do love your videos 🌹

Once I asked reddit to "type" my face and I got gamine because I have large eyes and forehead but also got natural maybe 'cause of my bone structure??(I'm not sure). I'd be inclined to believe any of the two classifications but I don't really see the gamine youthfulness or the natural freshness on me.

I disagree on Nicole Kidman. I think she is definitely a Dramatic (pre-plastic surgery). When you go back to the early days of her career and relationship with Tom Cruise you can find examples of her wearing monochromatic (usually black), sleek styles , suits, shoulder pads, and her super long mane and she looks the best she has ever looked in her career. There's even a 1995 interview with David Letterman when she is wearing a white suit and she looks amazing. When she began wearing pastel, romantic, and these boho looks (Keith Urban era) it really drained all her strong, confidant vitality.

It looks dainty and sharp, but too young for the curvy body I have. When I don’t dress in my lines and instead wear baggier clothing, I look like a child. When I dress in my lines, I have to match my youthful face to my “mature” by applying heavier makeup. I’ve learned never to leave the house without a red lipstick!

I'm wondering about when vibe/character and body type don't match. I've taken the quiz and came out as theatrical romantic. I think my body silhouette and even facial features match this category well. But wearing fou-fou ruffles and bows does not match with my vibe, which is more a combination of classic and natural. What is your advice? Do you think I've typed myself incorrectly, or do you think I can learn to be comfortable in more "feminine" styles of clothing?

I have a dramatic face but very soft romantic body. I found that most tops for romantics make me look like a very unhappy mom(I’m not even a mom, lol) who is wearing someone else’s clothes because she can’t afford new pieces. However, I found that, to make amends with my very dramatic face and romantic body, I have to wear edgier tops that have just a dash of romantic element and combine that with romantics bottoms. Works wonders
